If everyone looks like they'll finish all the tasks really early, you could always add some half-way (big-pointer) tasks!

I've never read Little Women (tried once in high school and stopped about twenty pages in), but I absolutely adore the movie. Winona Ryder is great in it (and Christian Bale is pretty yummy).
Tahleen wrote: "Who wouldn't love a movie with Christian Bale I ask you. Certainly not me."HA ha, YES.
Hey, if this is for three months...Read a book that takes place during the revelution.
Read a book that that takes place at Christmas time (Christmas in July)
Read a book that takes place somewhere you have gone on vacation during the summer.
Read a book that takes place during WW2 (VE Day).
Read a Harry Potter book (movie comes out in July)
Read a group read.
Read a book from a genre you don't normally read.
Read a book where the monarchy is the main characters (for Victoria Day).
These are just a few ideas... I hope that there are a few that people like... of course, all books would have to be YA.
Read a YA book that is told from the POV of a father (Father's Day) or a son/daughter who talks a lot about their father.Read a YA book about the Boston Tea Party, Revolutionary War, founding fathers, or the writing of the Declaration of Independence (Independence Day)
Read a YA book from a series written by a woman about a woman (Janet Evanovich - Stephanie Plum)...(I don't know if she is YA or not. I was just using it as an example)...(Woman's Equality Day)
Read a YA book about vampires or werewolves.
Read a YA book that is wholesome.
Read a YA mystery.
Read a YA book that has a story within a story.
Read a YA book that deals with the coming of age.
Read a YA book that has to do with senior citizen(s).
Read a YA book where the main character is a child.
Read a YA book set in France (Bastille day!)Read a YA book which deals with animals i.e. Redwall, Where The Red Fern Grows, Hoot, etc. etc.
Read a YA book written in verse form i.e. Crank
Read a YA book written by a man (Walter Dean Myers, Robert Corimer, Scott Westerfield...)
Read a YA trilogy
Read an award-winning YA author
I was just thinking that it might be a good idea to not put together a really big list for the reading challenge here, since we are limited to YA books. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I'm still planning on reading some adult books this summer. I think Laura's idea of having 20 tasks or so sounds reasonable, though. (Maybe 30 would work if there aren't a lot of multiple-book tasks?) To finish Cynthia's challenge, you'd have to read 47 books (which is pretty much impossible for me in 3 months!), but it's not difficult to work in a good mixture of YA and adult books there, you know?
Fiona wrote: "Can I ask are we allowed to listen to YA books via audios or do we have to read them?"Listening is absolutely allowed, Titch.
Jamie wrote: "I was just thinking that it might be a good idea to not put together a really big list for the reading challenge here, since we are limited to YA books. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I'm ..."Yeah, I totally agree... I am just planning on mixing as many books as possible for both challenges and then picking and choosing the other books that don't fit in both.
Kathryn - I'm planning on doing the same thing. I hope we'll be able to overlap a good portion of our books! I think I'll keep my goal on the lower end for the Summer Challenge, though.
Hey we can even peek in on the Summer Challenge brainstorming in TNBBC and pluck some ideas - I won't tell.
Thanks hon, glad to hear I can listen to books as well.I can read the last 3 Malorie Blackman books, listen & read Harry Potter books and read the Twilight series.
Didn't someone mention prizes? If you don't do so many challenge items, will it just be who finishes first then?
I was going to do 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes, but I'm still evaluating....prize will be an Amazon gift certificate though for the winner(s).I'm thinking 20 tasks. I'd like to get it up by end of day so everyone can start May 1!
So if more than 3 people finish the tasks, it will be the first ones who finish right? I don't read as fast as most on here lol...
I absolutely love fairy tale retellings, so a task idea could be to read an original fairy tale (like The Brother's Grimm, or Hans Christian Anderson) and then read a retelling of the same fairy tale.
Fiona wrote: "yeah, then you could read Fire and hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones ;)"Whats that the re-telling of Fi?
There's a couple of Tam Lin retellings out there. You'd be suprised at how many retellings of fairy tales there are when you start looking, both common fairy tales, and the more obscure. I love them. I went through a... phase... a few months ago where that is like all I read. I stopped reading so many to participate in the Spring Challenge, but I want to go back and read some more.
I love them! I'm glad others seem to like the idea too!
Ooh I've always wanted to do a challenge, but find out that I'm always a little too late...I'm excited to join!!I have a few ideas..(sorry if these are repeats)
How about choose a YA novel from an awards list..for example..the Printz
Read a book a Historical fiction YA novel
Read a book from a series
I like reading a 5 star from a fellow member's bookshelf
hmm...That's all I can think of for now =)
Laura wrote: "I'm so wishing I could finish it up!Thanks, Allison.....
