Now this is a title that jumped right off the page. I'm going to have a look at this one.

message 428: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I'm reading The Salt Roads by Nalo Hopkinson. I haven't been compelled to read speculative fiction but after getting about half way through this book, I really think I've been missing out. I'm definitely enjoying the fantastical aspects of this book, even though the content itself is a bit heavier than I was expecting.

Hi Jane,

Very good so far and I will post a review once I'm finished. If you like Steampunk or should I say Steamfunk, you will most probably like this one.

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 13 comments I'm reading Orphan Train. Not sure what I think about it yet. It's easy reading, but there's something a little too YA about it.

I thought the same thing when I read it - a little too YA for me also.

Yeah if you read OT and Number the Stars (which is actually middle grade lit) at the same time I don't think you could tell the difference between the grown-up book and the kid's book.
I actually love Number, but I also went into it knowing it was a children's book.

message 439: by Maya (new)

Maya B | 825 comments Bessie I am really enjoying this read thus far

message 440: by Linda (new)

Linda | 172 comments I'm reading City of Thieves, and listening to First Frost. They are both good. City of Thieves was good from the very first page. It took a while for me to get into First Frost, but I am enjoying it, now.

I'd like to forget Crime and Punishment, but it will nag at me until I get it done. I hope I finish it this month. I'm not enjoying it at all, but I'm too far in to stop now.

message 441: by Beverly (new)

Beverly Currently listening to The Bees by Laline Paull. Storyline gets better as the book progresses, lyrical literary writing does a good job on the character's inner thoughts less so on the visual description of the world.

Currently reading Hausfrau by Jill Alexander Essbaum. A contemplative type of storyline but interesting format of woman's need for to find herself, German language class on the structuring of the language relating to expressing oneself (not much just a sentence or two) and bits of Jungian analysis such difference between shame and guilt, difference between need and want makes the book differentiate itself from other similar book.

Also reading The Star Side of Bird Hill: A Novel by Naomi Jackson - just at the beginning - interested to see where the storyline is going.
