Jean To each his own, huh? :) There will be others that we agree on. By the way, what did you rate it? I rated it 2.

I've been meaning to read that one, a couple of months ago I read her book One Perfect Lie and really enjoyed it.

I tried really hard to get into this one but just couldn't. Stephen King is about as weird as I get.

Zadignose | 55 comments I've been reading Percival Everett's Glyph lately, and though it's cute in its intellectually-cutesy way, I'm not sure I'll make it through to the end. I don't know. There's surely something to admire in it, but I'm so cranky as a reader sometimes. We'll see...

Zadignose | 55 comments Oh yeah, also of possible interest to the group is William Melvin Kelley's Dunfords Travels Everywheres. It's extremely far out, modern/postmodern, and though it's also a muddle and a bafflement which I put aside halfway through about a year ago, I'm getting back into it because some of its vivid ideas and notions have stuck in my brain. Kelley's books are out of print, rare, not well-known, but apparently there's a mini-resurgence on interest in this almost-overlooked experimentalist.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I'm reading No One is Coming to Save Us by Stephanie Powell Watts. Very good debut about life's ups and downs for Black families in North Carolina. The story centers around Sylvia and her immediate family and their friends. I am more than halfway through and very glad to be reading it.

Toni Mariani (tonimariani) I guess I can count rewriting as reading. So, I'll say MaDea's Plantation Cookbook-Recipes from the Old South, ebook. My first release, I didn't know, but now I know, so I do better.
Enjoy cooking.

Toni Mariani (tonimariani) I just started a Sista's non-fiction; The Song and the Silence, Yvette Johnson.
I watched the video of her grandfather, Booker Wright first.
It's hard to comprehend that so much white hate existed, and still does. Some people just care about not being as free with it as in the past. They cloak it by saying, "the bylaws state", and other crappie (b.s.) reasons!
Keep writing!

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I am in the middle of Rabbit: The Autobiography of Ms. Pat. This book is a wonderful read. I have been worried about poor lil Rabbit from the beginning, however she makes me laugh so much I can tolerate her miserable life without as much pain as expected. This is a favorite for me this year. Highly recommend.

Monica (monicae) | 525 comments Reading The Refugees and The Last Policeman. Both are off to a great start. Also finishing up Love in the Time of Cholera which is very good, but requires focus as it is dense with descriptions and imagery and satire.

Sarah I'm hoping I don't miss your review of Cholera. I haven't read it yet.

Cuong Khong (cuongkhong) I'm currently reading Pulitzer's award The Road by Cormac McCarthy. The first few chapters had been really hooking me. Throughout the novel there is a strong focus on the bond between father and son. The man sees his son as the only remaining sign of God's existence; without his son, the man has no hope for the future. Their mutual desires to live and die depend solely on one another.

That was good. I had to read all her stuff after that!

I'm reading Olivia Gaines four book series about Scott and Zelda. They meet at a ventriloquist convention. He's a geek, but also knows how to work his own mouth. 😉
