Brina Trudy I'm on the waiting list for it. Looking forward especially with the controversial issues surrounding it. I have never read Picoult before so I'm excited.

message 1028: by Brina (new)

Brina I just finished The Children's Hour play by Lillian Hellman from 1934 as I decided to finish the year easily by reading assorted plays and lighter reading. Next is The Interpreter of Maladies- short stories.

Tender&Delicate (daughterofsarah) | 11 comments Finished the Book of Harlan. Currently reading The Mothers by Brit Bennett and Daughter by Asha Bandele. This is my 1st attempt at reading two books at once and I'm finding it is very difficult for me to remain interested in Daughter as The Mothers is so captivating. I think in the future I will probably pair fiction with non-fiction instead and see how it works.

When reading more than one book at a time - for me it is usually a fiction book and a non-fiction.

I find it difficult to read more than one book at a time if the storylines have similar themes/subject matter.

I stopped reading two books at one time because it means that I can't finish library books unless they're very short. It also takes me too long to finish books on my Kindle. This is unfair to the authors and publishers who've requested reviews. So now I'm alternating between library books and Kindle.

I'm currently reading a library book Underground Airlines which is a horrifying alternate history dystopia where four states still have slavery in the 21st century.

It's a popular book at my library too, Lulu. It took me a long time to get it and I won't be able to renew it.

message 1034: by Brina (new)

Brina I will read up to 3 books at once but very rarely and only if 1 is fiction, 1 is short stories, and 1 is non fiction. Two fiction books, it's too hard for me to follow.

Carmaletta, I have a shelf of "less than 165 pages" - feel free to browse it. I agree with the play suggestion. Poetry is good, too. Graphic novels. Some short works you may enjoy:

Another Brooklyn
The Visit by Friedrich Dürrenmatt
The Illest: A Novella by Ran Walker
Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel
John Lewis' graphic novels: March: Book One, March: Book Two, and March: Book Three

message 1044: by Carmaleeta (new)

Carmaleeta Newchurch So far on my quest to complete eleven books in a week I have completed two and on my third. Please feel free to check my Bookshelf to view my progress. Happy Reading!

message 1045: by Brina (new)

Brina Carmaleeta there are a lot of quality plays 50-100 pages each if that will help you meet your goal.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments check out audio books. They are short sometimes, 2 hrs. etc.

message 1047: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 1418 comments I've just finished The Golden Ass of Apuleius: The Liberation of the Feminine in Man and The Golden Ass of Apuleius. What a fantastic pair of books to read together. I read each of them, in tandem, twice.

I've just begun Adult Onset by the awesome writer Ann-Marie MacDonald. She wrote Fall on Your Knees.

And I'm also reading A Book of Luminous Things: An International Anthology of Poetry by Czesław Miłosz. And I've decided it's time to re-read Aion by the psychologist C.G. Jung. And I want to read How to Live: A Life of Montaigne in One Question and Twenty Attempts at An Answer to see whether or not I agree with Montaigne.

All the best of the season, to everyone. And the best for 2017, too.

message 1048: by Brina (new)

Brina Have now read 2 century cycle plays. I want to finish the other 8 next year. Wow.

message 1049: by Brina (new)

Brina Carmaleeta, how is your quest to read 11 books in a week going? Wishing you well. I suggest House on Mango Street if you need one more fast reading or Jacqueline Woodson middle grade kids books-- amazing. Carol, I will be looking at your 150 page shelf. Have today and tomorrow to finish Small Great Things for 144 (or 12 books a month) for the year. Wishing everyone a happy new year!!!

message 1050: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 34 comments I am currently reading Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America. Had planned to finish it before the New Year. Don't see that happening now. Very well written, scholarly work. I am learning so much. Would highly recommend.
