Fantasy

Enter a futuristic world where drug production and trade is legal and where clones are manufactured and harvested. This is the world Farmer creates in The House of the Scorpion. The story revolves around Matt - a young boy who learns he is a clone. As he reaches his teenage years he is confronted with situations that test him to his core and leave his fate uncertain. Farmer does a great job of creating a world that is easy to become invested in. The premise is extremely interesting but I found the characters to be less engaging. A few characters became more important and interesting as the story went on but I still left feeling a bit unsatisfied by the ending. It was a well written book but it did not appeal to me as much as other fantasy books of the past have. I felt that it tried to combine too many big issues into one book.
