Kristin | 22 comments This book was advertised all over the London Underground when I was visiting in 2009. The title was a man's first name, and the ads quoted passages from the book and cited them like bible verses. Jog anyone's memory? It's driving me barmy.

No, it doesn't jog my memory, but according to Listopia these were published in 2009:

Julian Comstock: A Story of 22nd-Century America
Asterios Polyp
Zeitoun

I guess two of those wouldn't apply if the title was only one word. Was it a biblical name, like Adam/Joseph/Moses/Peter/Jacob etc.?

There's also this listopia, which I didn't look through:

"One Name as a Title"

I, Alex Cross is actually a female character, but if not familiar with the series, that may not have been self-evident.

Kristin | 22 comments It's a single man's name, I know, maybe 5-6 letters long. It was a new book at the time, pretty sure it wasn't published before '09 so that rules out the classics. The name was neither mainstream nor terribly unusual... I can see the advert, just not the name on it... Argh! :)

Sam~~ we cannot see the moon, and yet the waves still rise~~ | 139 comments Kristin, I looked up books published in 2009 and found books with men's names in them. I doubt it's any of these, but it's worth a shot.

Henry's Sisters by Cathy Lamb Parrot and Olivier in America by Peter Carey Max (Maximum Ride, #5) by James Patterson The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #1) by Jennifer Ashley Marcelo in the Real World by Francisco X. Stork April & Oliver by Tess Callahan Julian Comstock A Story of 22nd-Century America by Robert Charles Wilson Dexter By Design (Dexter, #4) by Jeff Lindsay

SparksofEmber | 957 comments What did the advert look like? Was it the cover of the book? A man's face? A picture? A lot of books have the author's name in huge letters - are you positive the title was the name and that it wasn't just the author's name? And when in 2009 was it? Is it possible the book wasn't out yet? Also, do you remember what type of book you thought it might be? Thriller, literary fiction, etc.?

Kristin | 22 comments I do know it wasn't the author's name - I was once able to actually find the website related to the book by title.
The poster was a single solid color with basic block text on it. No photos. The ads (there were several I saw) would quote something the main character said, cite it as "1st (character) 3:16" or similar.
I think the book was a satire or comedy.
The time of year was summer - I remember seeing a lot of posters for the film "Bronson" as well, if that helps any.

Tomas by James Palumbo ?

According to the Guardian it was "backed by an expensive advertising campaign."

FYI, I found it by searching the Listopia in #3. (Never would have found it otherwise....)
