I finished Us yesterday with great narration of David Haig, parts funny, parts tender and overall a good listen and it was shortlisted for man booker prize.I started Redeployment a collection of war stories.
Sara , I actually read two over the weekend but posted three reviews . It was one of the first weekends in a while when we had no specific plans . I read and my husband watched golf ! Plus they were pretty quick reads ! But yes , productive!Btw - I read and really liked Yellow Crocus .

Cannot finish A GOD STROLLING IN THE COOL OF THE EVENING. Just can't trudge through this any longer.
Good for you May- life's too short and they are too many good books to read rather than read one we are not enjoying. When I was younger I used to trudge the but now that I'm older I don't have a problem with abandoning a book .
I finished & really liked Hairdresser of Harare. Great characters! Now I'm reading Mr. Penumbra's 24 hour Bookstore & getting a kick out of it.

I have started the Sugarcreek Amish Mysteries Series book #1 - Blessings in Disguise by Nancy Mehl. These books bring me comfort while figuring out who done it.
If you enjoyed Dan Close's "The Glory of the Kings", you might be interested to know that he is currently raising funds to publish his newest novel, "Song of Quebec". The funding site is at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/so...There are several perks for those that decide to help out. BTW, Dan won the Peace Corps Writers "Best New Book of the Year" award last year.
I finished The Scent of Secrets: A Novel.
4 stars . My review : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished Then They Came for Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival this past weekend. I am Listening to TransAtlantic & Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography this week.
Sara, was it a good choice to read it? I saw the author being interviewed on TV several times (particularly Jon Stewart) but can't decide if I want to or not. My husband read it & wants me to. Also, we watched "Rosewater" which I know was taken from it. We have the book but do I want to use my too-few reading hours with it. It might help if I read some reviews, huh? I'll try that. Thanks for reading my wanderings!
You're welcome Lela. If you already saw the movie and you know the jest of the story, I wouldn't recommend you to read it. The book of course has so much more details and names(which can get very confusing). I read it before watching the movie because I was born there, and had not been there for 30 some odd years and I have only these stories to realize how lucky I am to be out of that Political climate! Even though, I must assure you that Iran is a beautiful country to visit with many historical places to see, and most Iranians are very hospitable and caring people who loves foreigners (Unlike how they are portrayed in Western Media :0(
Thank you! I was feeling like I could skip it. I am sure I would love to visit Iran if the world wasn't totally messed up! We lived in Turkey for 3 years and loved all the history & all the people. Maybe someday! And, I know what is shown on TV is often totally biased. It seems many Americans really don't understand much about the wider world
That would be me Lela. I'm scarred to death even thinking about being in that country. So praise to you for being open-minded.

But now, there are no place safe in that region to live or even visit. I was in Turkey for 3 months also, and I totally loved the culture, the food and morgues & bazars I visited.
Finished TransAtlantic last night and picked up Orange Is the New Black based on a recommendation of the friend who saw I read Then They Came for Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival! But there is simply no comparison between the prisons in US and Prisons in Iran....
Just finished The Shipping News - which I enjoyed a lot. The writing was very good. I need to see the movie. Now reading The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, which I am also liking a lot. Started off strong.
@AN - you make a good point. I have been taking mini mind vacations this year to many MidEast countries including Iran & Turkey because I know I can only go there in my mind!
I am trying to read as many as before 2010 books that I've missed since I am done with 2015 challenge of reading 105 books. So, I am listening to The Pieces We Keep and also A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier this week.
The Glory of the Kings by Dan Close is historical fiction. It won last year's Peace Corps Writers award.Angela wrote: "Hello, my name is Angela
