Just started
A Dark Place To Die. Brenda I noticed you read one of his books and only gave it 2 stars. Was it too graphic or something else you didn't like about it? Hope this one's better. We'll see.

A well known car brand ad that appears as a bar across IPad and makes all the page go really small.
I'm working my way through Les Misérables, the movie comes out on Boxing day, so I hope to have it finished before then...but it's 1400 pages long

That's on all my "books you must read" lists but I keep putting it off. It seems quite daunting, although it is a classic and really should be read.

I hope you like this one Elaine, I'll be watching for your review, or thoughts, as after reading the novella I changed my mind about reading this one! I just couldn't get my head around what happened...I can't say more, as I don't want to spoil it for anyone else who might want to read it.

Thanks Dale I've just checked out your review. Oh what a shame it didn't work out for you.
I'll see how I go - fingers crossed :)

Do you belong to the GR Feedback group Tango? If so, I would go there and see if there is already a thread about it, maybe you can get some ideas on why/what... http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1...

Mixed views isn't it? Perhaps you need to read The Bronze Horseman trilogy first to get an idea of the family background & history. I've read that trilogy so it might work out better for me than it did for Dale...we'll see how it goes :) Thanks Brenda

I read it Mish and I loved it. It is very different to The Bronze Horseman triology in a way. Children of Liberty took me a bit longer to get into and it starts off a new series about Alexander's parents. It is a sweet read though. Written in a different time, and with different values and the like represented in the characters. I still probably prefer The Bronze Horseman triology overall though. I think that series will be hard to beat for a long time to come yet.Interestingly, when I met her when she was touring the country last month, she mentioned that because its been ten years since "The Bronze Horseman" was published, there is now a hardback special addition of the book avaliable that has a small added scene in it between Tatiana and Alexander discussing his parents.

I'll try and keep an open mind then & not compare it to the Bronze Horseman - I have a bad habit of doing that.
I actually met her too when she was in Melb & she read a little of the added scene...it was great :)

Ooops!!! Just had to edit that. Sorry Marianne, called you Melanie...don't know where I got that from!!!

It's a much easier read than his fiction, except perhaps his two children's books Haroun And The Sea Of Stories and Luka and the Fire of Life: A Novel which are probably my favourites of his: what does that say about my reading age, I wonder.......

I agree, Michael

It says you're a kid at heart, Marianne and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that!!

Love Harry Dresden! I am not quite as far along as you in the series. I save them for when I want to read a book I know I am going to enjoy!

I haven't finished it yet, but am loving it and also wondering why it didn't receive more attention too. The depiction of a country town is wonderfully real, without cliches or stereotypical characters.
I've been in such a book funk lately, quite a few I've had to put down and walk away from. I've just finished Warm Bodies (Zombies... Brrrrrraaaaains!). Now I'm starting
It's been a while since I've come across a book with a 4.67 rating and so many rave reviews, so thought I'd see what all the fuss is.
Almost finished EXIT WOUNDS by Major General John Caswell. The lives of many Aussies were in his hands not so very long ago.A good commander? Who am I to judge? But read my post, The Book and The General. My blog posts are transferred to my author's site here on GR. OR check out the blog on wordpress.

It's an ARC and it's brilliant, really enjoying it. Horrible, hot and windy day in Melbourne today, so looks like it'll be perfect to lay on the couch with the air conditioning on and read.

Here's my review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Currently part way through the first in the Sevenwater series by Juliet marillier, Daughter of the Forest. I'm enjoying it but reading it slowly as other things have been occupying my time recently. Looking forward to more books in this series.
