At the moment, I'm reading Inheritance by Christopher Paolini which is the last book in the series. I'm in one of those positions where I don't want to finish it because it is such a good series but I have to find out what happens. I'll have to make sure I have a rebound book to read as soon as I finish it, so I don't get too upset. :)

I *hate* that book for no other reason than the annoyance of seeing that word mangled in huge letters, with practically every possible letter wrong. (I suppose he could have made it worse with "simmmatttareeee," but it wouldn't have jangled my nerves any less.) For years, I simply refused to read it.

Brigitte, I know. It doesn't seem feasible to have one sent to you in the United States. Fnac.com will allow you to attempt to register from an "autre pays," but if you click that box, then there's absolutely no telephone number of whatever form that they will accept as "valid," so you can't proceed further. As far as I can tell, you have to pretend to be in France. I thought I might circumvent the whole process by getting the kobo app (which is what I'd prefer to use anyway, since I don't want to lug around a reader, apart from my phone), but that doesn't seem to work either, other than for free books from generic sources. Don't even think I'd be able to direct-order, if I did already have a fnac account. Maybe if I could somehow obtain a prepaid "carte fnac" (if such a thing exists), I might be able to circumvent the identity validation steps, but I couldn't find any method on the web for buying one. They'd probably still want my "phone number," and they'd want it to be in France, and they wouldn't accept even a French number if I gave the American postal code that would allow my credit card to be validated... so anyway, I gave up. I can order tree-books from amazon.fr, even using my American Amazon account, so I suppose I'll stick to that. Thanks for all your efforts to help!

Brigitte... Hmmm... I finally found a way to circumvent the phone number obstacle, and this is the message I got:
Brigitte... Hmmm... I finally found a way to circumvent the phone number obstacle, and this is the message I got:Votre adresse de facturation n’est pas située en France. Pour réaliser cet achat, il vous faut une adresse de facturation française.
So that pretty much confirms it. You can't buy their liseuse or their ebooks unless your billing address is in France. Oh, well...

Crikey,I'm so sorry that Fnac doesn't work out for you. That is really frustrating.
"Crikey" is a really interesting word to hear in America, coming from a francophone participant in an Australian group thread living in Paris and currently reading a book by a writer from the United Kingdom about an army major stationed in Afghanistan. Crikey! :)

Mark wrote: ""Crikey" is a really interesting word to hear in America, coming from a francophone participant in an Australian group thread living in Paris and currently reading a book by a writer from the Unite..."Yes, well....it's an old word I first encountered in the 70's while staying at a very dear friend's house in the UK. I used to visit with her and her family every year during that decade, which resulted in her English rubbing off on me, as you probably can tell. :)
Her Dad, born just after the turn of the century (1900, that is) used that word a lot. It sort of stuck with me and every time I use it, it makes me think of him. He's long deceased now, and a tiny part of him, managed to survive; through me using his word, "crikey".
Now that I think of it, I realise I have never mentioned it to my friend in the UK. Next time I have her on the phone I will.
I will tell her that a complete stranger, named Mark, over in Texas, made me think of her Dad, Lesley. :)
Thank you for highlighting the word for me.

 enjoying it so far.
I am listening to but I am struggling to finish it. I don't like any of the people in it! How can you write a book with no likeable characters at all!

Yes the narrator does not help. His Irish accent is excruciating. But I still argue that all of the characters are sad losers! I like to have at least one charming, intelligent person in my books!

This is the second Odd Thomas book as I am sure you know! And I am sufficiently hooked to have already bought the next three.

Agreed! I don't like listening to audio, the last one I listened to, the narrator was so bad I took the 'book' back to the library, and haven't done it that way since....

I listen to a lot of audio books while I am walking my dog and I must admit I always end up listening to things I already know are good such as The Lord of the Rings or anything by Terry Pratchett. Trying to listen to a new author is nearly always a mistake. Two huge exceptions to that were The Passage and Caleb's Crossing both of which were brilliant.

Just started reading The Tenant, which I was expecting to be dry, and of great 'literary worth', despite a kick ass movie being made from it by Roman Polanski, but...it's good already! :D

I just finished Forever Odd. It was really good. I love the Elvis bits and Koontz has a great sense of humour. I laughed out loud several times! I have the rest of the Odd novels lined up on my TBR shelf as soon as I have time!!!!

Absolutely you should! He has the ghost of Elvis living in his house! What more could you ask for? Seriously they are very clever, funny books.

 Hi Ashleigh,
Hi Ashleigh,My husband really enjoyed The Historian. I'd just finished The Swan Thieves, review here. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
and didn't want to read another of hers too close to it. But The Historian is on the shelf at home so I can read it any time.

In this case I seem to be managing okay. I think because they’re different genres – Gone Girl is a mystery/thriller & Ransomwood is an YA Historical fiction

I really like it so far. But you should take caution, there is one explicit sex scene during the second chapter.
