Nicola (sn295) | 30 comments Mark - Yeah I just looked at the reviews and saw Jess' review at the top. To avoid the spoilers I stopped reading it but I read enough of her review to see that it was hilarious :-)

Sorry. "De gustibus non disputandum" (no accounting for tastes), and "your mileage may vary." I agree that it's one of those "bimodal-reactions" novels. So, for that matter, was Lord of the Rings, so what do I know? I was mostly writing in appreciation of Jess' comedic talents, and certainly not to vex Nicola or anyone else who liked the book.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Yesterday started Criminal by Karin Slaughter which arrived from BD on Friday. Halfway through and as gripping as ever, Karin Slaughter has yet to disappoint me (although as a pharmacist I was just slightly put out with the murderer in Blindsighted).

Finished this today and was NOT disappointed, Karin Slaughter writes a great story. I'll put up my review in the next day or so. 5/5 as with everything of hers that I have read!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Brenda, I noticed that this book is listed as Will Trent #6, even though on Fantastic Ficton, it is listed as Will Trent #7, with her eShort Snatched: A Novella as #6. Dare we librarians alter this???

You are totally right Marianne! I just went to her own website, and Criminal is definitely #7.

http://www.karinslaughter.com/books/a...

Would you like me to change it, or would you like to? When it's done, we can put Karin's link there as the 'evidence'!

O.K being very slack now and cutting and pasting my post from another group here. But at least I'm attempting to stay in touch. :)

I'm reading: Daughter of Smoke and Bone Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor

But this book just arrived in at the library , so I'm going to read it first: The Venetian Contract The Venetian Contract by Marina Fiorato

I'm still reading:Wonder Tales: Six Stories of Enchantment Wonder Tales Six Stories of Enchantment by Marina Warner , and although I am enjoying them, the style is very old fashioned (of course, given when they were written), so I tend to slip in more exciting books in between the fairy tales.

Jess - I'd never heard of this novel, but my complete ignorance piqued my curiosity (as to why, partly, it ought to form part of the prescribed secondary school curriculum in Australia), so I had a look at the GR reviews. It appears to have been liked by music-lovers, and cheerfully loathed by students compelled to read it as an assignment. Bimodal distributions of opinions usually betoken an interesting book, though, so I hope you find it enjoyable. What is it you're supposed to be comparing it to, anyway?

message 3738: by Katie (new)
