message 3068: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) It is the timezone adjusted because of Daylight savings, it really should be +10

Brittany (brittanylouise) | 42 comments I am really enjoying it so far, a bit heavier in description than I'm used to but it's pretty hard to put down :)

Karen Field (karenleefield) | 0 comments Brittany, that's a great series to get in to.

At present, I'm reading "Lords of Rainbow" by Vera Nazarian. I've virtually only just started it so have no idea what to expect, but it seems OK so far.

Dee-Ann | 644 comments Been away for awhile. Currently reading Sophie's World, How I Write: Secrets of a Bestselling Author and Facades. The latter is for the Aussie book challenge for February and is steamy and erotic and was written by a 73 year old Queenslander ... which is inspiring.

message 3085: by Neko (new)

Neko Started- I Kill Giants by Joe Kelly and Clockers A Novel by Richard Price (took a bit longer to actually start this)

message 3086: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Lamperd I've nearly finished Passion's Fortune - the story of Mills & Boon by Joseph McAleer.
Wonderful history. The names of the old M&B writers - Sara Seale, Denise Robins, Anne Weale, brings back my misspent youth when I should have been studying instead of reading of far off lands, love and all that stuff.

I'm reading that one too at present,I'm nearing the end. Are you enjoying it? What do you think of the characterisations? I'm enjoying the story but the characters are a little two dimensional for me.

I'm really enjoying it so far, I'm almost done, less than 100 pages to go. I struggled at first to get into it but about 100 pages in it got me. I like the characters, and I really find that I care for them, especially Taita, however his constant reminding us of how he feels about Lostris irritates me :/ we get it, she is beautiful, we got that ages ago. Other than that its pretty good though.

Stephen The Nancy Mitford Omnibus. I may only read part of it as I have read some of her novels before.

I have also just finished listening to All The Nice Girls and I really enjoyed that one. For book club I just finished The Sea and I did not think much of that one. I have just started listening to Finnikin of the Rock

Adhityani (dhitri) Brenda wrote: "Great review Dhitri...was a wonderful book!"

Thanks Brenda. I can't believe the minute I posted the review, a friend forwarded me a few links by leftist African American writers who absolutely shredded The Help, both movie and book. They were totally upset with the portrayal of the young white woman as instrumental to lending the black women "a voice". I guess literary works touching on politically sensitive subjects will always be dissed by those who expect it to carry "a higher agenda" such as pursuing historical correctness, etc. Spoils the fun of a good book to me.
