Brenda, I don't think I ever introduced myself to the group - probably a bit late now then!

No, but it's on my TBR list, and I believe lots of other people have enjoyed it. Also I think a film has been made of it.

Yes - I loved the book and saw the movie on the weekend - thought they did a pretty good job, but the book was outstanding I thought.

Khenan Bragador | 140 comments Just finished Mildred Pierce. Kinda confused how i feel about it atm...the characters were always quite disturbing to me and i can't help but feel it was justified in a way :P, but the writing was great and it draws you in...great read nonetheless :D

Went to the library today and foundMusic for Chameleons, The Baby in the Icebox and Other Short Fiction, Serenade (following on from the 'hard-boiled' type of James M. Cain and an attempt to see if i'll like more of Truman Capote) and I Am Legend(i love reading original books with movies based on them, always fun to compare). :D

Sherri (fabledhattress) | 456 comments Michael wrote: "Your a quick reader Sherri."

That I am, lol, my mom never understood that about me but I will literally not do anything until I finish a book I am reading if I can help it. For example from start to end it'll only take me about 2-3 hours to read a 200 page book :) And the fact that I can read up to four different books at once confuses my mom even more

I loved Mildred Pierce, he has a real way of making characters you love and hate. I don't know how he does it.

I hope you enjoy I Am Legend, it's different to the movie

Laurel Lamperd Sherri - you have a lovely read ahead of you. To Kill a Mocking Bird is still one of my favourite books though I read it many years ago.

The barbed wire heart on the cover is the same as the one for The Dark and Hollow Places (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #3) by Carrie Ryan which is an awesome book, by the way. Just sayin'

message 2475: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Well, after having reading bonanza a week or so ago I don't think I've actually read anything since! Can't believe it. Must be the longest I've gone without reading for ages. But spring challenge is here, plus the September one so I'd best get cracking. I will (hopefully) start I Am Number Four today, then move onto the books for the challenges.

Just finished I Am Legend now and have to say i prefered it to the movie "I am Legend" (will have to view The Omega Man to compare as well). Great read!

your review not the book...

message 2480: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Lamperd I've just finished reading The Heroine's Bookshelf by Erin Blakemore - Life lessons from Jane Austen to Laura Ingalls Wilder. I think that just about sums up the book.
The writer not only discusses the main female character but also the authors and their lives, many of which were quite fraught. I'd read seven of the twelve books discussed and now want to read the rest.

Christine | 3 comments Just finished The Corrections for book group. Looking forward to something lighter (The Eyre Affair) for next month after a string of dark books.

Have just started reading A Race for Madmen: The Extraordinary History of the Tour de France. It's really fascinating what the early races were like.

Cathy | 123 comments Just finished Darkwater by Georgia Blain. It is described as a young adult novel, but I thought it was a really good read for someone who grew up in the 70s when it is set(and in Sydney where it is set). Really good writing and a tense murder-mystery plot - loved it!

Sherri (fabledhattress) | 456 comments Well once again, I am working on more than one book at a time.

New reads are: Wolves Among Sheep Wolves Among Sheep (Volume 1) by Melanie Fair , Dead Until Dark Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris , and The Girl Next Door The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum

Haha, I've had years of practicing it and it's actually pretty easy to do if they are all different in content :) When they are similar stories then it's a bit harder but still do-able :D Haha, but I do not have much else to do with my life at the moment so it keeps me sane

Haha it's ok, I've tried to teach my brother how but I failed haha, it just takes hours of complete boredom of having no life whatsoever to sit there and be bored with a stack of books that are due back within the week Lol

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I'm currently reading City of revelation: On the proportion and symbolic numbers of the cosmic temple except the title doesn't match the cover City of revelation On the proportion and symbolic numbers of the cosmic temple by John Michell . The book cover and description match the ISBN 9780349123219 and what I have in my hand (ie Alex McCall-Smith's 2nd Corduroy Mansions book) but the title and author are something completely unrelated, but do have a close ISBN. Stats for the book, eg no of pages, date published, relate to the title, not the McCall Smith book. Weird! Cue Twilight Zone music......

Carmel, I'm going to read it because my 16 year old daughter read it for school and loved it so much she never stops nagging me to read it. :) I just hope I love it because she will be bitterly disappointed if I don't.

★ Jess | 3071 comments I LOVE THE BOOK THEIF SO MUCH!
Why on earth do they get to read it for school?!?! That is so unfair! I want it for school :( Right now Im writing my essay on our latest class novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. Its an amazing book, but on a different level from The Book Thief.
Im glad you're enjoying it :)
Right not my copy is with my best friend-we have a similar taste in books and recommend stuff to each other. But he doesnt like it :( Upsetting.
