What I said before the book's release: I know it seems mad to rate a book that isn't even out yet; but given how much I loved the first five books set in this world, I can NOT see any way I won't love this book, too! And the best part of anticipating the release? It's time to re-read the previous books and immerse in that world with those characters all over again. Delicious!
What I say now I've finished: I was right. Stunning resolution to the narrative, and wonderful journey to get there. I'm giving myself a break from Gaela for a week, then rereading all six books - because the worlds and characters and story arcs are rich and detailed and sensual enough to sustain any number of revisits. My favourite kind of book!
Next question: when will Falconer's new series come out? We know she's writing one, I just wanna know when!! :-)
Took me a while to get around to reading it, sorry, but I needed to source and read the other books in the series first. It has been some time between completing book 2 and reading this one. Full praise to the author, as I picked up the story line within a few pages of commencing this book. The story had stayed with me making continuation easy despite the lapsed time. That, to me, is the sign of a first class author. The prologue grabs your attention - Earth, 24th century....Kreshkali beaten?
A detailed world, full depth characters, exciting story line, fabulous writing - what else does a reader need?
This was a very interesting book. While it is the sixth book in the series, I never felt like I didn't know what was going on. The book stands very well on its own.
The story is that surrounding two women, Kreskali and Nell Richter and their efforts to save dying Earth and another world, Gaela. There is conspiracy and betrayal.
In a couple places, the book suddenly skips a few years and it was very disconcerting as the reader since I had felt that the book was rising to a climax and then it was skipped and people just referred to it as something that happened a while ago. This was the main reason it only got four stars from me.
