What Are You Currently Reading? (doesn't have to be an Aussie book)
I've just picked up two books Linger by Maggie Stiefvater and Station Life in New Zealand by Lady (Mary Anne) Barker both ver different - one a YA paranormal the other a memoir from the 1800s.

Lesley wrote: "This morning started

Carmel, I had to put the book down last night b/c I got a bit teary myself. No…not yet, but I have got her next book on my TBR list.
Oh, I LOVE that cover Mish! The premise sounds pretty interesting as well. However, I just saw a lot of 1 star reviews, which is a bit off-putting :/ Let me know what you think!
Lesley wrote: "This morning started

As I was reading it (walking along in our town) I noticed the theatre had a poster up for it for the next French film night, so I attended that with another member of our book club who had also read it. It was a great movie too, quite faithful to the book, and is available on DVD. If you have read the book, you need to rely much less on the subtitles.

And there is a wonderful French movie of the book after you have read it!
Thanks Cathy & Marianne, I wasn’t aware they made it into a movie – I will certainly check it out. Love to see it!! :)

20% into the story (according to the eBook indicator) and Bran who will be Hood is a very temperamental and engaging character. Iwan (Little John) is a bit untidy - at death's door one moment, swinging a sword the next. But a very enjoyable read so far.
Yeah, thanks Cathy & Marianne. I also wasn't aware The Elegance of the Hedgehog had been made into a movie. I have never really been into movies, although since joining GR I have discovered many of the books I have read, and intend to read, have been made into movies that I really am interested in seeing more.
Have about 8 hours until the next challenge starts, and just finished the last one, so I started a book which probably does not fall into any challenge to read. I pick up This Side of Brightness form the library as it looked like the odd one out on the shelf and sounded interesting.
I am 100 pages into Rage, which is the first novel Stephen King ever wrote-when he was only a few years older than me.
I am currently reading Hearts in Darkness by Kerri Arthur and listening to Ice Cold and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I wanted to read it for I think it was the April challenge but I didn't make it for that, I thought I would listen to it anyway.
I am still reading Linger by Maggie Stiefvater and Station Life in New Zealand but have also picked up Advance Australia Where? which is a winter challenge read
Started Minding Frankiefor the winter challenge. i love maeves books, a bit like comfort food, good stuff for winter, even here in Darwin which is a bit chilly at nights at the moment.
I have just started reading "The Boleyn Inheritance". I loved "The constant Princess" and "The Other Boleyn girl". So I am hoping this Philippa Gregory book is just as good!
I am back!!! I haven't checked into this group for ages. Thanks to uni assignments, a teething baby, dental abscess, etc, aaargh. Anyway, I finished the sci-fi/time travel/historical fiction duology by Connie Willis Blackout and All Clear and I must say I am disappointment at both and felt that I had wasted precious hours I should be spending on my assignments or reading something else. The ending is brilliant, and if it hadn't been for the 900 pages plus useless plot twists and bad narration, I would have given it 5 stars seriously, but the book is just too long and Willis goes on and on about useless stuff. Granted, the historical details of WWII in Britain are fascinating, but she really doesn't have to go over 500 pages to get to that level. Sigh. Maybe sci fi is just not for me.
So I moved on to something else (on my Kindle! yes, got it a few weeks back, and love the ease of buying Kindle books etc, thinking about selling my Sony reader but it's so hard to part from it!). I just finished Jodi Picoult's Sing You Home and I found it unexpectedly brilliant. I don't know if it's because the themes are very close to me (as a mum and a woman) but there is something about Picoult that tells big stories with great ease. There is a lightness to how she delivers these heavy, controversial themes (in this book she deals with the theme of same sex relationships, impact of infertility to a relationship, religious zeal, custody rights, etc). You can tell that I have been really smitten by this one, I think this might be one of my favorites this year.

Sing You Home was awesome Dhitri! I don't think I have heard of anyone who doesn't like it. Great review! :) (lovely to have you pop in too BTW)
Kindle users, I have started a new thread under Book related banter for you to share news and comments. Would love to hear about new releases for Australia and your interesting finds. Oh, and feel free to rant, too! See ya there, xx

really good review Dhitri. I've added it to my TBR list
Brenda wrote: "Sing You Home was awesome Dhitri! I don't think I have heard of anyone who doesn't like it. Great review! :) (lovely to have you pop in too BTW)"My mum hates it. Shes half way through, and says its 'starting to get better, though still one star'.
So yeah...now you have heard of someone :P
I am reading Mice by Gordon Reece
Its part of my 'Aussie Author Challenge' and 'Winter Reading Challenge'
Thanks Mish and Brenda, I really enjoyed the book! Jess, I think one star is harsh! But would be curious to know why your mum doesn't enjoy the book...
Dee-Ann wrote: "Started Minding Frankiefor the winter challenge. i love maeves books, a bit like comfort food, good stuff for winter, even here in Darwin which is a bit chilly at nights at the moment."Be interested in what you think. I just finished Whitethorn Woods and thought it was one of her more average books.
I decided to join the Goodreads book club challenge to read Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad - I am going to do it on the Kindle, despite of some bad reviews re formatting of the "slideshow chapters". I will post comments on the formatting issue once I encounter them on the Kindle thread. Also, for those who are reading Jodi Picoult's Sing You Home you can listen to songs to the book (each chapter title is a song) on Picoult's publisher's site. The songs are by Ellen Willbur. Here's the link:

Some of the songs are really beautiful, and just how I imagined them.
Adhityani "Dhitri" wrote: "I decided to join the Goodreads book club challenge to read Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad - I am going to do it on the Kindle, despite of some bad reviews re formatting..."The book was unusual, I wanted more of their stories.
Yeah, I’m really looking forward to reading this series Carmel. I’ve got the other 2 books on hand (City of Ashes & Glass) so I can read them one after the other :)
City of Bones is a pretty fun book. I wouldnt say its one of my favorites, though its an enjoyable read. Luke, Alec & Issy are my favorites. Its a bit predictable, but I hope you enjoy it none the less :) I gave it 3.5 stars
I'm reading Left Neglected at the moment. It's amazing! Gripping....keeps me thinking about it after I put it down...
just started Swimsuit by james patterson, and boy he's not mucking around, straight into the murder within the first few pages. so far i like the fast speed patterson is setting. anyone's read that one ?
yeah - i've got a change of all the romance books :-) Left neglect sounds good indeed. .... I just wish i had more time .... i sound like a broken record .... sorrryyyyyyyy
goodo !!! there are some mixed review around, but so far I'm doing all the housework possible cos it's a "pageturner" ...
