What Are You Currently Reading? (doesn't have to be an Aussie book)

Fitting cover name because it is very Elegant indeed :)

Hi Lesley, I read this book about a year ago. Very slow start. It doesn’t pick up until about 150pages or so but worth reading to the end.

No…not yet, but I have got her next book on my TBR list.

Let me know what you think!

I read and very much enjoyed this one last year. As I was reading it (walking along in our town) I noticed the theatre had a poster up for it for the next French film night, so I attended that with another member of our book club who had also read it. It was a great movie too, quite faithful to the book, and is available on DVD. If you have read the book, you need to rely much less on the subtitles.

I loved this trilogy!

And there is a wonderful French movie of the book after you have read it!

Love to see it!! :)

I loved this trilogy!"
20% into the story (according to the eBook indicator) and Bran who will be Hood is a very temperamental and engaging character. Iwan (Little John) is a bit untidy - at death's door one moment, swinging a sword the next. But a very enjoyable read so far.

Anyway, I finished the sci-fi/time travel/historical fiction duology by Connie Willis Blackout and All Clear and I must say I am disappointment at both and felt that I had wasted precious hours I should be spending on my assignments or reading something else. The ending is brilliant, and if it hadn't been for the 900 pages plus useless plot twists and bad narration, I would have given it 5 stars seriously, but the book is just too long and Willis goes on and on about useless stuff. Granted, the historical details of WWII in Britain are fascinating, but she really doesn't have to go over 500 pages to get to that level. Sigh. Maybe sci fi is just not for me.
So I moved on to something else (on my Kindle! yes, got it a few weeks back, and love the ease of buying Kindle books etc, thinking about selling my Sony reader but it's so hard to part from it!). I just finished Jodi Picoult's Sing You Home and I found it unexpectedly brilliant. I don't know if it's because the themes are very close to me (as a mum and a woman) but there is something about Picoult that tells big stories with great ease. There is a lightness to how she delivers these heavy, controversial themes (in this book she deals with the theme of same sex relationships, impact of infertility to a relationship, religious zeal, custody rights, etc). You can tell that I have been really smitten by this one, I think this might be one of my favorites this year.

Sing You Home was awesome Dhitri! I don't think I have heard of anyone who doesn't like it. Great review! :) (lovely to have you pop in too BTW)

really good review Dhitri. I've added it to my TBR list

My mum hates it. Shes half way through, and says its 'starting to get better, though still one star'.
So yeah...now you have heard of someone :P

Its part of my 'Aussie Author Challenge' and 'Winter Reading Challenge'

Be interested in what you think. I just finished Whitethorn Woods and thought it was one of her more average books.

Also, for those who are reading Jodi Picoult's Sing You Home you can listen to songs to the book (each chapter title is a song) on Picoult's publisher's site. The songs are by Ellen Willbur. Here's the link:

Some of the songs are really beautiful, and just how I imagined them.

The book was unusual, I wanted more of their stories.

I gave it 3.5 stars
I'm reading Left Neglected at the moment. It's amazing! Gripping....keeps me thinking about it after I put it down...
