Joanne (goodreadscomjovo) | 262 comments Yes, knowing it's happening, and it's so unstoppable, must be terrifying and frustrating to a writer like TP, who's been so incredibly prolific. I read in one of his blogs that he was writing as fast as he could before it got to the point that he couldn't write any longer.

Lets hope that a lot of smart people who have read his books, and I know a lot of smart people who have, will get inspired to do more to discover a treatment, cure, prevention for this dreadful ailment which could help him and many others (including family and friends).

Joanne (goodreadscomjovo) | 262 comments Absolutely. It's one of the saddest things to see happen to someone.

message 1508: by Trish (new)

Trish (bowedbookshelf) ..or would that be keys in this sense?...

I didn't get this reference:(

message 1509: by Neko (last edited Apr 27, 2011 06:20AM) (new)

Neko Keys because we are using keyboards to type our thoughts which we'd normally say verbally when talking to someone :)

Or maybe because he sparkles when in daylight?

message 1511: by [deleted user] (new)

Bethany wrote: "I'm reading Tomorrow, When the War Began, thought it was about time that I actually read it, almost everyone I know already has."

Yeah I'm just starting the third book of this series now. I like it. Not my favourite series, but I've read a lot worse. I'd be interested to hear what you think about it though. =)

ahhahahaha

message 1514: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) But Edward isn't a vampire; he sparkles and hangs out in the forest; clearly he's a fairy

message 1515: by [deleted user] (new)

so your saying you dont sparkle in the light and it does burn you...? or are you telling us your a fairy?

message 1516: by Neko (new)

Neko Knowledge Lost wrote: "But Edward isn't a vampire; he sparkles and hangs out in the forest; clearly he's a fairy"

and forests are dark so maybe you are a fairy too?

message 1517: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I don't hang out in the forest, cuz that would require leaving the house

message 1518: by Grant (new)

Grant | 30 comments Currently I'm reading Eye of the Wizard by Daniel Arenson. I can't say the writing is brilliant but the characters are fun.

message 1519: by Dee-Ann (new)

Dee-Ann | 644 comments I have started reading Shattered Sky which was kindly loaned to me by Jo. It has the adrenalin going after only a few pages.

message 1520: by Trish (new)

Trish (bowedbookshelf) o-o-o-o-k-a-y, I finally get it! I did read Twilight, way back when, before it was a hit anywhere, in an ARC copy. Thought it was addictive, but not great literature. That doesn't seem to have stopped anyone. I am pleased that something has sparked an interest in reading and fiction. When I began reading, bodice rippers like Angelique got me interested in reading, so whatever it takes...

Adhityani (dhitri) Melanie wrote: "hahah well i have had success a friend picked 4 and 14 so im now reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon :D

Ooooh Mel, good pick! I have read that one and I remembered absolutely loving it. Won the Pulitzer in 2001, I think. Will have to re read that again and write a review.

message 1522: by Adhityani (new)

Adhityani (dhitri) Finished The Secret River now onto The Lieutenant. Loved The Secret River and this one looks promising!

message 1523: by Iris (new)

Iris Blobel (iris-b) | 127 comments just finished death du jour by kathy reichs .... not 100% sure yet what to think about it, it draged a lot i thought and based on a lot of coincidences.

have started infamous by Suzanne brockmann - recommendation from s'one at work .... :-) ghost in that story .... LOL ...

message 1524: by Neko (new)

Neko I've yet to touch a Kathy Reichs book! We own a few when my father went through this spurt of reading..He bought quite a few books but then suddenly lost all interest in reading.

I think the reason I don't want to touch her books because I enjoy Bones on TV way to much. Dunno. Grr!

message 1525: by Iris (new)

Iris Blobel (iris-b) | 127 comments i've never watched any of the bones episodes, but have heard from those who love the series that they couldn't really warm to the books

message 1526: by [deleted user] (new)

I LOVE bones...maybe because angel is in it and i was in love with him since Buffy hahah.
did know there were books

message 1527: by Balthazar (new)

Balthazar Lawson I've just finished reading This Other Eden by Ben Elton. I've enjoyed his other books but this one didn't really do it for me.

I've decided to move onto an Australian author and I'm now about to start reading The Easy Sin by Jon Cleary. I've read a few of his books in the past and have enjoyed them all.

I only just found out while updating his page that Jon Cleary had died last year aged 92. The Easy Sin is the 19th book in the Scobie Malone series of which there are 20 books. The first of them was published in 1966 so that's nearly 40 years of writing just one character. Of course he has written other books in that time.

Lesley | 328 comments Grabbed The Almond Picker at the library because of the lovely cover(!)although GR doesn't have this cover version. Interesting storyline, translated from Italian. So far, so good.

message 1533: by Hels (new)

Hels Taylor (hennie) I'm half wat through Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey, hasn't lived up to the hype of being the Aussie version of to Kill a Mocking Bird, but I am enjoying it so far

message 1534: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I've just started Juliet, Naked

Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby

message 1535: by Dale (new)

Dale Renton (dalerenton) Reading 'The Wrecker' by Clive Cussler and one of his ubiquitous co-authors. Early chapters in Cussler books always irritate me as they step through the adjective and adverb heavy, telling descriptions of each of the characters. But the stories are well researched, rock along - and keep you turning the pages. So far, 'The Wrecker' is proving true to form.

Winter's Bone by Daniel Woodrell

★ Jess | 3071 comments I saw the movie got amazing reviews though :/
Actually, the reason I am reading the book is because I want to see the movie. Reason I got interested in the movie is because Jennifer Lawrence (Ree) is Katniss in The Hunger Games.

Secret River is on my TBR so good to know that, all of Kate Grenville's so far have been great. I loved the Lieutenant. And then will you please go back and finish Room so we can know what you finally think of that one?

Jessica, I saw the film first and thought it was terrific, then read the book, and thought the same. It's a great story, beautifully presented. I'll be interested to see what you think.

@Carmel! Can't believe you though it was boring!! :)

It wasn't an action movie, sure. I think I was in the right frame of mind for something slow and subtle! Jennifer Lawrence was excellent - I think she's a good choice for the Hunger Games.

message 1543: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (goodreadscomjovo) | 262 comments I'll be interested to hear what you think, Carmel. I really liked it - it's an horrific premise, but it's a real page turner. I'm waiting for my husband to finish the second one... He's a slower reader than me!

message 1544: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments There is a 'Hunger Games' thread in 'Individual book discussions', I believe. You can join our ranting there :D

Oh, and I love The Hunger Games too.
