Dee-Ann | 644 comments Finished two books today, and started three books ... not sure if that was a smart thing to do ...
The Book Thief, Odd One Out and Dexter Is Delicious ... one or two of these are part of challenges.

Maggi Andersen Two Aussie authors. I'm reading Anne Gracie's The Perfect Rake, which is an absolute delight. I've just finished Fire Of My Heart by Erin Grace which I also enjoyed. I've reviewed it for those interested.

Thanks Carmel..I hadn't gotten around to doing that for Maggi...they sound intriguing, don't they..worth a look.

There have been a huge amount of excellent comments on The Help too, I'm sure you will enjoy it when you can get to it. Did you read my review?

message 1057: by I.E. (new)

I.E. Henn Currently reading My Beautiful Spy, by Colin Falconer. Colin's a Brit who has lived in West Australia for many, many years. Many of his novels are historical thrillers. This one is an intriguing blend of romantic suspense with war-time espionage. The exotic settings in 1940's Bucharest and Paris, as the Nazi presence escalates, makes it reminiscent in mood to that great movie, Casablanca.

Just finished
Worldshaker really enjoyed it I'm suprised there is not more hype about it. It's really suspensefull couldn't stop thinking about it even when I wasn't reading it. The world is mind boggling. It's a definite read more than once kind of book.

message 1059: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) My son might like Worldshaker. He liked, but didn't love, Mortal Engines (The Hungry City Chronicles, #1) by Philip Reeve and he loved Leviathan (Leviathan, #1) by Scott Westerfeld .

Just started Secrets to the Grave by Tami Hoag. It's very good so far, tho I'm only in a little way...

Mandapanda Currently re-reading the great Cat/Bones PNR series by Jeaniene Frost. She's got a new book coming out soon and I want to catch up on the past happenings before reading it.

I recently finished this one Mandy. My first PNR. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Hubby then read it, also his first time although he does read a lot of fantasy which I do not. He also enjoyed it and asked me to get the next in the series which I will do soon.

First up though, I'd like to read [book:Catching Fire|6148028]. It should be here in a week or so. Can't wait. ;o)

message 1063: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 22 comments I'm reading Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand. It's the story of an Olympic runner who becomes a bombardier on US bombers in WWII. About a third of the way through and it's fascinating. It's just a shame it's too big a book to read comfortably on public transport.

I'm still reading Kathy's "Deja Dead" which is great, but I've also started "Cassie draws the universe" which I got from a good reads giveaway ... it's really hard work for me to get through each chapter ....

I've been entertaining the idea of audio books lately, for that very reason Iris! Making chores fun is the best idea I've ever heard..haha!!

message 1068: by Maggie (new)

Maggie After taking SO long to finish The Distant Hours I've been flying through a few other books.

Not sure what to read next - looking at all the books I've selected for the various challenges - March challenge, Aussie Readers challenge, Autumn challenge .....so many to choose from, and I want to read them all!

Will probably start on the second Mortal Instruments series City of Ashes so I can lend it to other people I know who want to read it next. After that, who knows?

Iris dear - Ironing is NEVER, cannot EVER be, fun. I know people who do it while watching TV or DVDs, but hah, I have the perfect excuse not to do it at all. Due to my aged body's physical infirmities, I can't stand at the board long enough!

So I buy drip dry clothing and lie it all flat on top of the other washing when I take it off the line, from whence it goes straight onto the clothes hangers. Anything that still crinkles gets sent straight to the op shops! Actually I could write a whole article about my aversion to, ugh, ironing and the psychological reasons for it... Anyone out there ever used a petrol iron? That's Reason #1.

Cleaning. Ah, I have to be in the mood.

Monya (aka Mary)

Now Thanks! Iris, I hadn't thought of listening AND ironing...maybe my to-be-ironed pile will diminish now too.

I've just downloaded 'Passing" by Nella Larsen from
http://www.audiozero.com/audiobook/pa...

downloading it was easy to zip file, unzip, to mp3 then download to phone or mp3 player. or burn discs whatever. No mucking about searching for the right phone droid thingy..as is still the case with trying to find the right one for my phone e-reader.. I did have to buy a bigger memory card for my phone..

Maja | 13 comments I'm reading The Last Warner Woman by Kai Miller. Got a book for my birthday recently. It is very interesting and engaging. The author is Scottish but was born in Jamaica and the book is set in Jamaica. I now want to learn more about Jamaica - well more than Bob Marley, regae and Cool Runnings.

Dee-Ann | 644 comments I have started reading This Year It Will Be Different and The Housekeeper and the Professor, both which I recenty borrowed from the library. The latter book, even though I have read only the first chapter is definitely a 'comfort read' and am enjoying it a lot, which might also be due to the inclusion of mathematics in the story.

Bronwyn Rykiert | 315 comments I have just finished reading Darkness Everlasting by Alexandra Ivy - I really enjoy this series and found this book fun to read. Now I am reading Digging to America by Anne Tyler for bookclub - not my normal genre but I will read it so that we can discuss it on Thursday, it's not bad. I am also listening to on CD, Untamed by P.C. Cast and on my IPod I have Halo by Alexandra Adornetto.

I have enjoyed reading what others have been reading and from the lists I have put a few more on my TBR list.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you every time I get on here one of my favourite distractions (kids) demands my attention. I haven't read either of those books this was my first adventure into steampunk. Sorry I can't help but I do believe it is worth a try.

it surprises me every time how unpopular this little task is. since 'discovering' audio books i've often discovered going into ironing full-time ... still hoping for a publisher to come along first though ... LOL

Paul Phillips Just finished reading Popcorn by Ben Elton I have always loved his work and this is an absolutely clever book. Humour, satire and a fine eye of social questions.

Currently reading Darkside by Belinda Bauer It came recommended to me by half a dozen customers so I thought I would give it a try. Can't say I am impressed - feels like I am reading an episode of "Heartbeat", not a great crime thriller. Will persist for now.

Kieran Culkin (Macaulay Culkin's brother) is amazing in the movie possibly the best thing about it. But it is a good movie its worth it if only for him

you mean he is coming back! o I missed him I used to be in love with richie rich when I was little haha.
be a pretty interesting movie, can not see orlando bloom playing Julian Assange..? thats just weird

also I have just started Perdido Street Station (New Crobuzon, #1) by China Miéville its good so far and slightly strange bug people and aliens I have high hopes for this book :D

message 1095: by Mandapanda (new)

Mandapanda @ Melanie - I'm really hoping The First Tuesday Book Club choose China Miéville when they do a Scifi special!

@Carmel - Yeah I heard that too. I think he would make a very good Julian Assange but with how much the American govt hates Assange I wonder how they will portray him?

message 1096: by [deleted user] (new)

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Hi all I am currently living in Brisbane QLD and one of the books I am currently reading is in fact an Australian book; it is even a Brisbane book!

The Kingdom Where Nobody Dies by Kimberley Starr. The cover claims it is ‘A gripping psychological thriller’ but I have my doubts. So far it is well written and readable with a nostalgic tint, very good at evoking place (Brisbane) and a sense of time (1980’s). The primary plot revolves around crime so I suppose you could argue for ‘thriller’ but the plot seems more of a vehicle for memories and character development rather than the other way around.
Still have a third of the book to go though...
