Several Bader books are now on my wishlist. But if they only take 20 minutes to read, I don't want to pay much for them!

Hope you enjoy it Laura, I read it a long time ago, but as it was the first of Bryce Courtenay's that I read, and I now own quite a number of his, and have read a lot, I'd say I definitely enjoyed Potato Factory..:)

Yes, that's what made me interested in the books...it was such a long time ago, but there was a mini series on TV I think (and I'm not real sure on this), but I watched it, and loved it, so that started me them....I think the series spread over 4 books....oh, now I'm not sure if it's what happened or I'm making it up!! :D

Too many books, so little time.

No cursing allowed, remember...13yo's listening..LOL.. Just head for the (naughty) corner, and you won't be tempted...hahaha!

message 730: by Deb (new)

Deb Something different, I've just started reading All Quiet on the Western Front by Remarque. I read it years ago in German and saw it in a discount book store recently. This looks like a good English translation. It's an anti-war classic. I remember it made a big impression on me back at uni.

message 731: by Neko (new)

Neko Brenda, yeah there was a movie from the first book....I read the first books years ago so I'm sketchy on it (I really need to reread it) but I do remember enjoying it more than I would think. I am interested in checking out the move from the first book. I think there has been like 3 books out?

message 738: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79972 comments Mod
Hmm! That sounds really interesting! Might have to add it to my TBR list! I think I'll check if my library has it..:)

message 739: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79972 comments Mod
Yes, they have it! I'm not going to reserve it now, cos there is no-one else with it, so I'd get it straight away....tooooooo much else to read...:D I've made a note to get it later..
Carmel, I used to buy all my books, but since joining the library, I have ventured into reading many other authors, which I wouldn't have done, if I'd still been buying my books. I still buy my fav authors, but borrow the ones I want to 'try out'! I belong to Doubleday Book Club, and get their catalogue every month. Then I order the ones I like the sound of from the library!

Maggie I have also just finished "Sister" this afternoon. Good ending, didnt see that coming. Have started "The Hunger Games" and already 100 pages in. Was meant to be sleeping ready for my shift tonight but reading took over. Oh well, at least I'm not tired.

message 743: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments "The Hunger Games" is amazing. I love that book!
Its sequel, "Catching Fire" is just as good, if not better.
The final book, "Mockingjay" is....atrocious.I absolutely hated it.

But they go together, right? I mean, you can't really stop until the end, or can you? (I've been wondering whether to read them.... )

message 746: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Defiantly read them. They are amazing, even though the finale is a let down-but still worth the read.

If you really wanted to, you could read the first as a stand alone book, but with an open ending. Thought I would recommend you read the whole trilogy

message 747: by Dee-Ann (new)

Dee-Ann | 644 comments Just started reading Sizzling Sixteenwhich is part of my summer reading challenge and has been lurking around on my book shelf tempting me for a while. I hope I continue to get a laugh out of Stephanie Plum ... there has been only one book in the previous 15 which I did not think highly of.

message 748: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Just finished Reckless, and am now starting my first Stephen King book of the holidays: The Running Man

Finished 'Chill Factor' last night, (really enjoyed it) from my Summer Challenge, about to start the 8th, which is 'The Curious Incident of the dog in the night-time' by Mark Haddon.

message 750: by Dee-Ann (new)

Dee-Ann | 644 comments Was sitting on the lounge this morning drinking a cup of tea, feeling lazy and could not reach any books I am currently reading, but there was a stack of new books, and could not help myself, picked one up and have read almost 80 pages of Shark Girl, which I found myself in tears on bus reading this morning. This is not on my original summer challenge, but I might see if I can change one of the books to this one, as this is a Oprah book for kids 12 years and up.
