What Are You Currently Reading? (doesn't have to be an Aussie book)

I didn't mind Twilight. Certainly didn't love it and its sequels (and honestly, who names a baby Renesmee? sp?), but I've always felt it was just "Romance with Vampires," even if they were sparkly perfect ones, and just a bit of light fluff as long as you could cope with Bella's characterisation.
But then came the movies. *shudders* Our (then) teenage daughter and I actually turned movie 2 off, less than halfway through, which is almost unheard of in our family. Usually we grin and bear it to the end, but that one was just too unbearable.
Leonie wrote: "Michael wrote: "Phrynne wrote: "Michael wrote: "Phrynne wrote: "Michael wrote: "Phrynne wrote: "Michael wrote: "Finished at awful Twilight book, no review yet but you can read my running commentar..."Going to be less Twilight tweets now, but who knows might do it with another book
I didn't like the second book or movie much at all and agreed, Renesmee as a name made me go 'Nooooooooo!' Lol. But the 3rd and 4th were great. I'm a total fan. I don't begrudge anyone not caring for the books or movies. I just thought I'd put my two cents in. I feel sad for Stephanie Meyer. She realised her dream, she was worshipped and then after the love begins to wear off and her fans begin to grow up, the dislike gets stronger. I'm a writer myself, and I got a 1 star review once (as I'm sure I'll get legions more if I'm lucky enough to sell legions worth) and god does it hurt. Even though it went up after 2 hours of being published and was only based on the sample and clearly came from someone who knows and dislikes me from my town, it stings. I just hope that for every reviewer I turn off, there's someone who'll cheer me on. So I cheered her here. But Michael is more than welcome to his opinion :) Reviewers definitely have a purpose to serve-just doing my bit as a fan :)

That's it. I'm almost finished the 3rd one and running out of steam with it for some reason. Possibly just exhausted, lol.
Picked up one of the titles on the clubs 'reading' shelf
What a treat to find the reference to Broken Hill! Will be passing it along my Hillbillie friends when read.
I've been reading the Honor Harrington series by David Weber and have been really enjoying it. There's the occasional bog down in technicalities, but the concepts are really interesting, I like the main protagonist, and there are treecats who absolutely steal the show.

I found him quite amusing, and it was an easy read :)
Looking forward to the night circus, it has been on my TBR list for sooo long lol
I read the first Twilight book and thought it was very average. Bella is just so boring, no real person is that dull. As for Harry Potter: great writing, excellent characters and great story lines. I plan on reading I am Legend and Other Stories soon for another take on the whole vampire-zombie thing.

This sounds mean, but the way that Kristen Stewert breathes is seriously irritating!! lol
Not interested in zombies or werewolves but really enjoy all the different kinds of vampire from Lestat to Babcock to Edward and everything in between... Even Sookie's Eric was entertaining for a while.

Just finished Country Driving: A Journey Through China from Farm to FactoryLit Bug, it was great, very interesting look at China and it's people
Finally finished The Burial by Courtney Collins! Very intense. I needed longer time to finish because I stopped a few times and could not continue. I felt so much for the protagonist... I will write a review tonight. Then will move on to read Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. *Sorry can't tag as I am on my phone

Thanks for the recommendation have added it to my tbr pile. It really is an interesting country that's for sure! Trying to understand their thinking sometimes can be quite challenging.
I agree - and the book I recommended throws much light on that - it is very well researched and unbiased :)

The blurb of the edition I mentioned is horrible due to misrepresentation - don't know who the hell wrote that - read the blurb of this edition instead - http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...
I just finished 'Thirst' By L.A Larkin, too embarrassed to say what audio book I'm listening to, and pondering what book to read next.

I am reading an extremely entertaining book by Nora Roberts called A World Apart. I usually only read her as J.D. Robb but I am enjoying this as a bit of very light reading.
A World Apart didn't take long so I have started The Golem and the Jinni. It has begun in a most satisfactory way. I think it may be a winner.
I'm just done with Trouble and Her Friends, a feminist cyberpunk novel, and it's so good! I now prefer it infinitely to classic cyberpunk...
I have just finished reading The Rosie Project. It was certainly different and enjoyable reading. Also have completed The Tour By Denise Scott. This was very funny about her childhood and touring doing her stand up comedy. Then will be reading The Meaning of Grace by Deborah Burrows. I didn't realise until later I had picked 3 Australian book authors.
I finished Red Bones by Ann Cleeves which was excellent - the third in the Shetland Island Quartet. I then flew through The Life of David Gale by Dewey Gram - literally could not put it down, highly recommended. I am now reading Nothing to do with Justice: The Di Fingleton Story by Diane Fingleton. I vaguely remember this story when it happened but don't know the details. Not a huge fan of memoirs but this is ok so far.

I have finished reading Burial Rites. An impressive debut and definitely on my list for Best Books 2013. I gave it 5 stars (review here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...).
A bit lost now because I don't know what to read next....

Demographics are never right, I know a few of men that like romance novels, I don't hold that against them
