Now reading The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce. About 1/3 of the way through but a lovely gentle story so far.

I've recently read two books for which reviews are now up. The Storyteller and Glastonbury: The Novel of Christian England Review for The Storyteller here http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... and Glastonbury here http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I just finished
The Broken Sword
by Poul Anderson. Pretty much the quintessential classic fantasy novel.

Both you and Alik have inspired me to put this book on my TBR list. Looking forward to reading it.

Currently reading Extreme Prejudice: The Terrifying Story of the Patriot ACT and the Cover Ups of 9/11 and Iraq: The Ultimate Conspiracy to Silence Truth. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry is probably less depressing.

Of course, Harold Fry is remarkably benign. Even Dean Koontz is probably less horrifying than the recent history of the United States. I keep hoping we'll be invaded by vicious space aliens, so things will improve. Oh, wait... I forgot about The Tea Party.
Brenda wrote: "Currently reading Secrets of the Tides by Hannah Richell"Books about secrets are always interesting. Do you suppose the Tides created any pretexts for instigating 10-trillion-dollar wars and melting down the global economy? I'm not sure the book would be fun otherwise.

Sounds like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass would suit, with the Tea Party...take your mind off global matters anyway;)

It's a good suggestion, though I've actually read Alice's Adventures about ten times. My favourite book of Carroll's is The Mathematical Recreations of Lewis Carroll: Pillow Problems and a Tangled Tale. It was how I kept myself sane through high school. Oh, wait... I didn't. :)

I have that on my coffee table to read too. Got it from the library the other day.

Actually have started it as the other one I was reading wasn't holding my attention. Interesting so far.
Kelly wrote: "I've almost finished Inferno by Dan Brown."Was it any good? I liked The Da Vinci Code, but I've got mortally tired of being reminded how the world actually works.
Kelly wrote: "I was good but not as good as the The Da Vinci Code."Thanks. Possibly I'll try to borrow a copy. I also liked Digital Fortress.
I keep getting people coming through borrowing Inferno specifically to laugh at it. To each their own I guess.
Must admit it won't be one I'll read but then I thought Da Vinci Code the most boring book out and movie not much better despite Tom Hanks. My husband on the other hand enjoyed both. Different tastes. that's what makes reading interesting..

Years of Wonder by Geraldine Brooks. I wasn't sure whether I would like this one but am enjoying it so far.

I wasn't sure if I would enjoy Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks either Alik, but I did!

Liam wrote: "I keep getting people coming through borrowing Inferno specifically to laugh at it. To each their own I guess."The Da Vinci Code was a potboiler fraught with the fatuous occult symbology of deeply pathological secret societies. It wasn't great lit, but it may have been informative to people not already familiar with all that idiotic and disturbed iconography. I can't think of anything funny about it, though. What is it about The Inferno that's funny -- or is it just the fact that people read potboilers? God knows, there's immeasurably worse. Twilight ought to have kept whole populations in uncontrollable hysterics for weeks, if that were the only requirement for being funny.
