Ann (disciple45) I am starting Task two of the year-long A-Z challenge and my first book will be: Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood I've liked her books in the past and I hope this one will maintain the enjoyment.

message 2: by Ann (new)

Ann (disciple45) Well, I've had to change my first book already! The Margaret Atwood book is very good but I was trying to read it at the same time as I am reading Moll Flanders and they are too similar even though they take place about a century apart. So I changed to Alley Kat Blues by Karen Kijewski I really liked it, was a much quicker read. I'll go back and finish Alias Grace someday soon - after I finish Moll Flanders. Here's my review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
My next read is The Beach House by Mary Alice Monroe

Not a good read for you, huh?

message 10: by Ann (new)

Ann (disciple45) It wasn't actually bad to read, Cherie, as much as I felt I had been there before! You know, ethnic girl gets bullied because she's different. She doesn't want to be different, wants to fit in but is afraid to buck her traditional family and its ways. Ends up married to a guy her family likes, it's a "great match" and then ends up messing up her whole life. I was just hoping for more!

I am reading The Forgotten Garden now, so I have to wait to read your review. I am about 1/2 way through, I think. Can't wait to see what you said! :)

Sara, I didn't get to finish it yet but I will try to get to it soon. I liked what I read so far very much but it was too similar to the Moll Flanders I was reading at the time which was the group read. Hopefully I will get back to it very soon because I have enjoyed everything I have read by her
Cherie, I can't wait to hear what you think! My reviews are never detailed, I just give my feelings about the book, not the plot line or anything. If I hadn't read it already I would suggest it for August as a family saga.

message 15: by Ann (new)

Ann (disciple45) I'm still reading The Grapes of Wrath and I am enjoying it more than I originally thought I would. It is a bit ponderous and heavy in nature but the story is fabulous. I've been reading it before bed though so I sometimes conk out before I get too far.
