The first of Meg Cabot's mystery novels, this book is narrated by Heather Wells, a washed-up pop star. She lost all of her money and fame when her mother ran off with her earnings with her manager. She also caught her fiance cheating on her, leaving her almost entirely alone. She gets a job working as an assistant residence hall director, with the goal of going to college. However, when her female residents start dying, Wells garners the assistance of her detective roommate and crush, Cooper, to help her solve the murders. I found the book to be a guilty pleasure read as it was rather unbelievable but immensely entertaining. As Wells is in her early thirties, the language and details are mature. The suggested audience would be the upper end of young adult readers, preferably 17-18 years old.
