Boring!!

What a boring book. The author proclaims that she is weird, but she doesn't seem to be at all. She uses the word vagina several times, and the word racist over and over. What is weird about that? Almost every book published now is like this one. I hate to burst her bubble, but she is totally generic. She also seems to think using curse words makes her different, but it doesn't. It just puts her in with the rest of the boring pack of new authors.

It seems like I'm in the minority here...I actually found this book quite entertaining. It was different from what I usually read, but I enjoyed it.

I read it, I loved it. But then I loved her blog. I also grew up on a farm, suffer from social anxiety, and depression... so a lot of her stories ring true with me since I've dealt with it myself. (Like hiding in bathrooms from crowds, and people just looking at me like 'did you really just say that?')

I'm sure there are people that won't like this book, just like there are those who don't like LotR, or Harry Potter. Just because it's popular doesn't mean everyone will like it.

However... there are others of us who absolutely do love it, and laugh all the way through it.

Thank you! What a waste of time. I had to stop reading it. What is all the fuss about? I know she is funny but it just felt like a couple of funny blog posts does not make a good book.

My husband and I laughed out loud so many times, tears rolling down our cheeks. Yes, the book drags at times and is a bit of a mess, but oh my goodness, her stories are hysterical.

I think it was fairly clear that the book would be primarily of interest to people who enjoy her blog. I laughed my butt off over Beyonce the rooster as an anniversary gift. I enjoyed the book also; I didn't pay for it, but I did get it as a birthday gift, and I was quite pleased with it.

I think we can safely put a person who has been raised by a taxidermist and is drawn toward dead, stuffed animals in the "eccentric" category; "weird" is one of those tags that only the person to whom it applies may politely use it.

I liked the deliberate use of strike-throughs, which as far as I know has never been done before. But really, it's mostly her loopy sense of humor that made me happy.

I can't believe so many found this boring! I thought it was hilarious.

I didn't find it funny either. It was actually very normal and it seemed to me that she kept saying i'm weird, this is so weird, look at me i'm really weird... i don't know, i was really bored and was glad when i finished it.

favorite book of 2013(out of 56 books read)

Laugh out loud funny!
The author reminds me of my sister in law and stories from her childhood so much; I had to pass on the book to her!

I agree with you as well... this book was boring! It was a total waste of time. I can't believe I read this book! Some of my friends loved it, but I am not a fan of it. It is as many of you have already said... this book is not for everyone.

I liked the first third of the book and barely slogged thru the last. She was just funny enough to keep me reading despite the dragging. I found her neurosis contrived at times. However, I too had a weird childhood and completely identified with a few of her stories.

I absolutely loved this book! I listened to it while running the first 50 miles of a 100 mile race and it kept me entertained and laughing for 12 full hours. The audio book may be a better choice as it is read by the author and really get the feel for her stories. My favorite story is about the sister and their pet racoon. I still laugh about it.

I thought it was hilarious! I was literally laughing out loud in a room full of people and getting awkward looks while reading this book; I couldn't help it!

I did not like this book. Some parts were cute, but, mostly ............. it dragged on and on.

I don't think it was 'Boring' But it was repetitive. At first I was completely drawn in--thought it was hilarious. But after about 4 or 5 chapters i started getting tired with her random capitalizations and excessive use of punctuations.

I love her blog, and the book was a great read IMHO. I can completely relate to Jenny Lawson, and I think seeing myself in her book made it funnier to me. Beyonce is awesome, and the pictures made me laugh out loud. She's finishing up her next book, so keep your eyes out for it!

Well, I found her odd and quirky, but I guess if you don't think writing notes on obese cats is funny, then you won't like it. I laughed sooo much! She does, however, make a lot of vagina jokes...but I wasn't offended.

I think you have to read the whole book to like it. Even my husband loved this book. If you only read the first part, you will think it is stupid, but keep going...keep going...

I it is important in this discussion to note -- did you finish?

I LOVED the book. My best friend gave it to me when she finished it and I laughed SO hard throughout the whole thing! I sent it on to a friend of mine who laughed through the whole thing. And she sent it on to another friend....who laughed through the whole thing...and passed it on to 2 more people. Not sure how anyone could call it boring. Perhaps you weren't in the right frame of mind to read it? But everyone I know who has read it has found it hilarious!

I have "totally" been the one calling my husband to let him know I was lost and the only landmark is County Road Z and a tree. And the pug funeral is something that would happen at my house. If we had a pug. Instead we have funerals for the various critters our varmint dog catches and leaves in the yard for us. And my daughter insists on making little headstones and writing "RIP Mouse" with a sharpie before we are done. I read this on an airplane and scared my seatmates perhaps by laughing out loud. Her life is not that "weird", I think she writes pretty well about the human condition.

LOVE this book!

I liked the book. The funniest part to me was the picture of the chicken knocking on the door.

I loved this book! Maybe it's not for everyone but I totally dug it.

Think the curse words got your attention away from all the fun. It's a funny book, I enjoyed it a lot.
As for being weird, she seemed a bit weird at times. Although the book wasn't very strong in its architecture, but it's still a very cozy and amusing read; with some laugh out loud moments..

Eh, I found it a little difficult to get through only because it seemed she was indulging and even, sometimes, forcing her "ADD" tendencies and purposefully getting off track. I felt like it was being pounded into my brain, over and over, that she is horribly, tragically flawed and therefore hilarious. Although I did get plenty of hearty laughs from this book, I felt it would be better off a bathroom book, read in small, amusing snippets as opposed to sitting down and reading it cover to cover. Maybe then I would have escaped the feeling of endless (and needless) rambling. She is terrific at self-deprecation, that is for sure, but I think the editor (which I was sick of 3/4 in) did her a disservice by letting her ramble about inconsequential nothings quite so much.

I thought I was the only one who could not finish this book. What really annoys me is I bought it in hardback.

I could have totally done with less use of the word totally. Totally.
