~RP~ (A small forest that's pleasant to walk through)

message 2: by Kit (new)

Kit (kitkong) Vivian slumped against the tree as an old man ran past her and she hid a giggle. So she gave him a little illusion so what? Blowing air upwards to get her bangs out of her face she sat on the floor for a few minutes before getting bored. Looking at the high tree he glanced around, figuring she still had a while before the rush back at the hotel. Glad she wore shorts she hoisted herself up onto a hug branch, swinging her legs back and forth as she hummed softly.

Kit (kitkong) Vivian was swinging her legs while sitting on the branch when she heard a whistle coming into tune with her soft hum. Quickly looking around she spotted a pretty handsome boy coming hr way. Quickly changing positions so her legs were on the branch she let so she swung down, being held up only be her legs. It was just in time so they were face to face. She giggled,"Hi!" A big smile lit up her face, her eyes sparkled as it did so. She was usually pretty happy.

Kit (kitkong) Vivian laughed softly,"Well I'm one of a kind!" She shook her head at his question,"No not really."Grabbing onto the branch with her hands she did a back flip so she was on the ground again. She smiled kindly at him,"I'm Vivian by the way. My parents run the hotel in the town square. Sorry for freaking you out." She smiled kindly and held out her hand after she smoothed down her long blond hair.

Adena Wright (adenaw) "Well that's good," Layla said with a smile, squeezing his arm slightly. She thought about his question for a moment. "Yeah, my day was a little stressful. And I don't know, I guess in some ways it's harder, but in other ways it's not. I have a lot more flexibility with my schedule, which is nice, but drawing for hours on end is exhausting. Being a designer is much more stressful than people think," she said. "But I love my job, so I don't have too many complaints. I don't think you could do my job and I know I could never do yours, so it's a perfect fit," she said. Layla look around at their surroundings. Walks through the forest were always so peaceful.

Adena Wright (adenaw) Layla watched as he looked around at the forest. "I miss using my powers too," she said quietly. Of course, their powers were completely opposite. While David reveled in the darkness, she strove to make everything brighter. Layla sighed and glanced around before lighting up just the tips of her fingers. She smiled mischievously and waggled her fingers in his face. "You know, I think my fingers are just a tad too bright. Maybe you should help me put out the light," she suggested.

Adena Wright (adenaw) ((She saw him looking around and guessed it :) ))

message 8: by Adena (new)

Adena Wright (adenaw) Layla's eyes widened and the lights at the tips of her fingers went out. She didn't know the full extent of his powers and he had never offered to show them off in front of her. "Really? Can I really teleport with you?" she asked, trying to somewhat contain her excitement. Layla grinned, not removing her hand from his. "That would be amazing." She hoped his offer had been serious. "You know, if you don't mind," she added. There was barely anyone on the trail at the moment and if he was serious about letting her teleport with him, this would be the time to do it.

message 9: by Adena (new)

Adena Wright (adenaw) Layla took his hand and held it tightly. She was tempted to squeeze her eyes shut, but she wanted to see what happened. Turns out there wasn't much to see since they were shrouded in shadow. "Wow, that was..." she trailed off. "I don't even know! That was so cool!" Layla was aware she sounded like a five year old in a candy store, but she didn't really care. "Can we do it again? Can we go a little farther?" she asked enthusiastically. She wasn't a huge fan of the dark, which was why her power was so perfectly suited to her, but she knew David wouldn't let anything happen to her. Besides, being a little scared made it that much more exciting.

message 10: by Adena (new)

Adena Wright (adenaw) Layla paled considerably when he talked about the dangers of teleporting with shadows. She was definitely starting to reconsider her request to try it again, but didn't have time to voice any of these thoughts before they were suddenly engulfed by shadows once again. When it was over, she found herself clinging to David much tighter than before. "I-I don't know, maybe," she said, trying to get her thoughts in order. One the one hand, Layla wanted the experience of hearing something in the shadows, but on the other hand, it was absolutely terrifying. She took a deep breath. "Okay, just one more time?" she asked. If there was any part of her that thought doing this would lessen her fear of the dark, she had been sadly mistaken. If anything, she was even more frightened than before.

message 11: by Adena (new)

Adena Wright (adenaw) Layla scowled at him. "I think you've definitely succeeded in thoroughly scaring me," she said. "But challenge accepted. I'm ready to do it again, one last time. You can't expect me to just get scared and give up. I'm not that kind of girl," she said proudly. She smiled up at him. "Let's do this. I'm ready if you are," she declared. In actuality, she was nowhere near ready, but there was a huge difference between just being scared of something and letting fear rule your actions. Layla doubted that she would ever get over her fear of the dark, but she wasn't going to run away screaming. It was just something she'd have to deal with.

message 12: by Adena (new)

Adena Wright (adenaw) Layla let out a long breath. She realized she had been digging her nails into his arm and let go. Being wrapped in darkness wasn't her favorite pasttime and she was glad it was over, but at the same time felt good about doing it. Layla shook her head in response to his question. "Nope, just as scary. I think I heard a voice this time, but I couldn't make out any specific words," she said. She could feel the tension easing out of her body. She repositioned herself so that she was just holding his hand instead of clinging to him for dear life. "So how exactly do the shadows talk?" she asked curiously, starting to walk again. It felt strange to walk normally after teleporting.

Adena Wright (adenaw) ((I'll reply in a sec))

Adena Wright (adenaw) Layla nodded, hoping he was right. At least she'd heard the voices too and knew he wasn't crazy. "Thanks. I know being scared of the dark is stupid and, most of the time, irrational, but knowing that doesn't make it any less scary unfortunately," she said. And despite their vague feelings about each other and the frequent awkwardness of their relationship, she did trust him. Layla also appreciated that he had said 'get through' instead of overcome. Whoever said that facing yor fears always the solution to overcoming them was a liar. "I wish I could be as comfortable in the dark as you, but unfortunately that's just not me. What's something you're afraid of?" she asked. She realized it was kind of a personal question, but her perception of tact was a little skewed.

Adena Wright (adenaw) Layla looked over at him. She hadn't really expected him to answer. Their conversations usually didn't reach this deeper level. They were getting pretty vulnerable here. She wasn't going to tell him that everything was going to be okay or that that would never happen, because she honestly didn't know and she wasn't the type to sugarcoat things or make promises she couldn't keep. "Nobody wants to lose themselves," she said after a moment of silence. "But you just have to trust that someone will be there to help you find yourself again." Layla assumed that Maddy had been that person, the one who kept him rooted, and she couldn't stop the wave of inadequacy that washed over her. She couldn't fill Maddy's shoes and she didn't think David would want her to anyway. What if he did get lost and she couldn't do anything about it? He helped her with her fear, but she may not be able to do the same for him. Without realizing, she let go of his hand. "People say there's always room for improvement, but sometimes I just don't know how to improve. Everyone always wants more. I'm afraid of never being good enough."

message 16: by Adena (new)

Adena Wright (adenaw) Layla shrugged. That sounded nice, but how was she supposed to know if she was good enough for herself?what was the criteria for that? She ran a hand through her hair and sighed. "I guess you're right. I just, I know I act like I don't care what anyone thinks, but I do," she said softly. Most of the time, her show of confidence was just that: a show. Sometimes she spent so long faking it that she even convinced herself, but ultimately, she just wanted to be needed. Layla didn't even feel good enough for her own parents.

Layla folded her arms across her chest, it was starting to get chilly. She wasn't in the mood for a pity party at the moment and she didn't want to ruin their walk. "Well, let's just agree to not let each other get overwhelmed by our fears, okay?"

message 17: by Adena (new)

Adena Wright (adenaw) ((Okay, feel better!))

Layla heard something in his voice and looked over at him, unfolding her arms and slipping her hand into his once more. She found that she liked it much better when it her hand was connected to his than when it just hung alone at her side. "What are you thinking about?" she asked. She figured they had already come this far and had gotten this personal that ne more question didn't really make a difference. Layla could practically see the wheels turning in his head and didn't seem to be fully engaged in their conversation anymore.

message 18: by Adena (new)

Adena Wright (adenaw) Layla watched him for a while longer as they walked. She could guess what the same old was: his depression. Her parents had mentioned it before their engagement, but she had just assumed they had been exaggerating. Turns out they weren't. That didn't affect Layla's perception or opinion of him, but she just wished there was a way for her to help. "Well, I'm here whenever you need me," she offered. "Hey, I'm getting a little hungry," she said, mostly for a change of topic. "Do you want to head back to town and get something to eat?"
