✿ ♥ Heather ♥ ✿ (frangiegal) | 8 comments Hi, my name's Heather... I'm new to the group... I wanted to find people who might've read Wool and Shift.

I read these books one after the other (something I don't normally do) they were so good!

I am currently reading DUST - the final book in the Wool saga.

Amazing story and can't wait to see the movie.

Hi. It's really good right? Did you also read shift? I'm in progress of reading it, but I have few other books to finish first.

✿ ♥ Heather ♥ ✿ (frangiegal) | 8 comments Hi Ellie - yes I read all 3 Shift books one after the other! Then had to wait several months for Dust - the finale.

Lucky you, you'll be able to read it straight after if you want.

I know. That is I usually don't start a book if the other parts are not out or recently to be published.

Susan (susanw610) | 20 comments I loved Wool and I have Shift on my list. I don’t usually start a series unit the last book is available (made an exception with Wool). I learned my lesson with Stephen King’s The Dark Tower Series Collection: The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, The Waste Lands, Wizard and Glass, Wolves of the Calla, Song of Susannah, The Dark TowerDark Tower series having to wait years between novels. Does Dust complete the series?

Yes. Dust is the final book but it continues from where the events in Wool finished. So you can go ahead and start reading.

I know I have a book of Julie Kagawa and no intention of reading it until the third part is going to be out soon.

The reason why I will never read the last two books of the Wheel of Time. Though I know for a lot of books there are like short recaps. I think .... I hope! :}

Thanks Ellie. I get nervous with series. Once burned twice shy, as they say. Does anyone write just one book anymore? It seems authors feel the need to write a minimum of a trilogy. I would rather read one long book than a series of shorter ones. I don’t know if I am making sense or not.

You are. I often prefer short books, they seem to be more intense. BUT if I am loving a book I am very happy to write a trilogy. I think this comes from the readers demand. But often is just silly. They make a trilogy, then transform it into pentalogy and then add about 6-7 short stories.

But wool started as a short story. I think he wrote the first three and the people rally liked it and he got signed to do the rest as well.

So yeah, I think it's also the publishing houses fault. They want money money money, it's all about the ... you get it.

Anyway a friend recommended me an author and he has a fan fiction in the wool world. It;s free as well in US, for other countries you might need to contact the author. He send them by email to me. I am still to read them.

This is the whole book, but it contains spoilers so it is not a good idea to be read before Wool.

Greatfall: The Complete Novel

You are welcome :]

Chris Ward (chriswardfictionwriter) | 77 comments Apparently Hunger Games was a one-off but the publisher wanted a trilogy after the first took off. The first book is excellent but the other two are kinda lame, so while Collins is probably loaded now her long term legacy will be poorer for it.

If you want good standalone books, read lit fiction. Most series are genre fiction and exist purely to make money.

You can't make money from something, there is no demand for. I think it goes both ways.

And I forgot what else I was going to say

Chris Ward (chriswardfictionwriter) | 77 comments It comes down to genre a lot of the time. Readers often like familiarity, which is why you get so many series, and also books featuring the same characters.

Personally I much prefer reading standalone books. It's really rare for me to read two books in a row by the same author. I like to try different ones.

Me too, with exceptions of course. And for those exceptions I hate to wait. I can't read books months apart.

I am a bit behind in Goodreads. Every day when I get in from work it is thunder storm after thunder storm with my electric going on, off, on, off – fun times :). Thank you Ellie for the suggestion Greatfall: The Complete Novel. I have read Wool but haven’t started Shift, yet. You recommended I read it after Wool, did you mean all, right through Dust or now? Sorry for the silly question but I don’t want to ruin either story. Here comes another storm.

I read the UK one, the omnibus ver which is all FIVE wool books. But you can just red the separate ones. The first book is free.
