I checked our library catalogue to check my reading history and although I'd read the other Adrian books in this series I hadn't read Kiss of Midnight. YAY looking forward to it :) Out of the 3 extra you recommended I hadn't read the first so will try that too heh

It Had to Be You (Chicago Stars, Book 1) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

It's one of my favorites, I'll hope you'll like. There's also merit of having athlete as a hero... I noticed you had trouble with that one on Men We Love Challenge.

message 53: by Kasia (last edited May 01, 2009 05:35AM) (new)

Kasia Mel! I think I've got it: [image error] . At first I was really worried: "What could I possibly recommend Mel? She either read all the good stuff or is planning on doing so... Tough." But then I've noticed, you haven't yet read anything by Lilith Saintcrow. So "Working for the Devil" it is.

Give it a try, you might like it. To me, this first book was the best, loads of fun, and overall the whole series is quite decent.... So, enjoy!

message 54: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey Adrienne,

I'll be honest. I did read it a few years back and I own it, but I never finished the second book in the series (I own all but the new). I'm not sure what the rules on that are, but I guess technically they would be on TBR shelf, but does that count?

message 55: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Adrienne and Kristen:

Tricia's original rule is that the recommendation should not be on the person's TBR list since the goal of the challenge is to introduce a new book or author to the reader.

However, I will leave it up to you guys to decide on the matter. Kristen, if you would like Adrienne's recommendation as that little push for you to read the next book in the series, I'm okay with that.

If you want a different recommendation...just let her know. I don't think she would mind picking another one.

message 56: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey Thanks Yz. Adrienne, I think I'll go with a different recommendation. But I promise to read the BDB books over the summer ;).

Great choice! Never heard of her and she seems right up my alley. I just ordered all of her books from amazon. I love to find new authors with several books out already. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Great to see another Michigander on here!

Melissa | 1245 comments Ok Tasha - after looking at your bookshelves I've come up with Improper English by Katie MacAlister. I noticed you had tried others by her and didn't like them. Improper English is completely different from her other series books. She became one of my favorite authors after reading this book. I guess I wanted you to give her another chance! If you can't find it, her book called Men In Kilts is just as good and not like the books you'd read and disliked. If you absolutely do not want to give her another try, I'm going to recommend Flirting With Danger by Suzanne Enoch. Happy reading!

message 59: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Mel:

I've seen that book being discussed in a few boards, and actually found a group that focuses on that series. Never gotten around to adding it to my TBR shelf, but your recommendation is just the push I needed.

Thanks for choosing it for me, and I have already requested it from my local library.

message 60: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 295 comments For Lori (Rosenbrook), I pick Full Moon Rising Riley Jenson Guardian Series Book 1 by Keri Arthur. I just got turned onto this series last month. Looking over your bookshelf, I thought this would be a good pick for you.

I hope you like it!

message 61: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 367 comments Thanks, tosca. Dark Thirst sounds good, and I'm off to order it now since I found it cheap on Amazon. It's funny you recommend Storm Front, too, since I have it on order in audio from my library. I have it on good authority that James Marsters from Buffy is the narrator, and I'm dying to hear him read it!

message 62: by Lara (new)

Lara | 109 comments Glori,
I am playing it safe this month for you. I have chosen an author that you have read and it is obvious you like. LOL! I have chosen Hero Under Cover by Suzanne Brockmann. It is one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy!

Lara,

Thank You! The book description sounds like something I would enjoy. You don't have to play it safe. I liked Black Ice. I read the entire book in one evening. :-)

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Sherrill - sorry to make you wait! Too busy packing to move, and living in another time zone!
Oh, and calling in advice - I'm such a librarian, I try to do research before making a recommendation...
My friend, Louise, who I consulted, came up with a list of UK authors you might like, and I've narrowed it down:
Cathy Kelly - Always and forever
Jill Mansell - Perfect timing

If you feel like branching out into young adult books, you could try:
Jaclyn Moriarty - The year of secret assignments
Sarah Dessen - Just listen.

But any books by those authors would work (I hope!)

Glori (divina) | 37 comments Lori(metamorphosis)

My pick for May is Running Wild Wild 1 2 3 by Sarah McCarty. Paranormal romantica appeared to be a fitting pick after looking through your shelves.

I hope you enjoy the book!

Amanda A | 769 comments Melody, my pick for you is Heartbreaker by Julie Garwood. This is the first book of her Buchanans series. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. If that one doesn't appeal to you though, I saw that you have The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt on your to read shelf. I loved that book and would highly recommend it as well!

I think I'll go with the Hoyt, only because she's a new author for me. (I'm sure I'll get to Heartbreaker at some point, I do like Garwood and don't remember reading that one!) :O)

Kasia No stress, even if you get it next month or something, it'a all ok... I'm just saying I found it fun, and I think you might too =D Glad you're all excited, LOL.

message 77: by [deleted user] (new)

Kasia-
Sorry it took me so long to post this. I was out of town and forgot about May challenges starting.
I picked The House of the Spirits for you. Its not a regular romance, but it has a lot of romance in it. Anyway, it looks like you read a lot of other books, outside of romance, and I thought that you might like it, given the other books that you rated well.

message 78: by Kasia (new)

Kasia No problem Lori, a small delay doesn't make much difference, really. Thanks for the recommendation, The House of the Spirits looks like something I would like... A LOT. Now I just have to get my hands on it... ;)

Thanks

Just hang around, maybe join other challenges, and then you can sign up once the June thread is opened.

Sarah | 367 comments Just got mine in the mail this week, tosca. I'll start it today.

message 86: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 367 comments I just finished tosca's selection for me, Dark Thirst by Sara Reinke. I enjoyed it very much, so thank you! This is the first time I've read about a vamp who is both deaf and mute. Brandon was a really likeable character, and it was nice to see him stand up against his abusive family. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see where these characters go.

message 87: by Annie (new)

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Sarah. I've just finished Storm born by Richelle Mead. In amongst packing, moving & (not really) unpacking, it was a welcome relief!
Another series to keep an eye on.
It's different enough from other half-fae books around, that it stands out. Refreshingly, it's NOT full of sex - and the sex there is, makes sense & isn't there for the sake of having a sex scene.
[Forgive me, I prefer a plot with sex adding to it, rather than sex with a vague suggestion of a plot wrapped loosely around it.:]
Now waiting until later in the year for the second book.

message 88: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 367 comments Glad you liked it, Annie. I thought it was a stand-out book, too. Very different from other fae worlds, with compelling characters who keep your attention. Plus I like the bound demon trio. :)

I just finished (finally) this fun book! I really, really liked it! I say finally because life kept getting in the way, but it should have been a quick read. I LOVED the puns! It was fun to watch for them while reading. It was a fun setting too. Comedy and the supernatural amongst the "ton" was great. It was a cute romance with fun characters. I actually bought all of her books when I bought this one so I will definitely be reading the rest. Thanks so much for the great recommendation. I had never heard of her before and look at what I was missing! That's why this is so much fun!

Don't worry Mel! I wish I could tell you something about Steelflower, I haven't read that ;( Bummer. But if you ever see Working for the devil, sitting there unattended on the library shelf - I say go for it :)
LOL

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Mel,

I finally got my copy of Poison Study, but unfortunately, I'm in a middle of a move, so I might not be able to read it this May. Still, I will be working on it as soon as I have free time, and will get back to you here on my feedback.

Looks interesting so far based on the blurb and the reviews here on GR.

message 99: by Kasia (last edited May 25, 2009 08:46AM) (new)

Kasia Lori, I'm still waiting for a copy of The House of the Spirits... Somebody checked it out from the library a while ago and is not letting it go. Grrrr. Pisses me off. But no worries, I'll get to it sooner or later. I mean as soon as I'll get my hands on it.

But I'm ranting, oops. I just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about the challenge or anything ;)
