Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Good afternoon ladies! I'm so excited to get started with Bingo again and to get to know those of you that I don't already know (Hi EZI!!!). This will be my fourth time playing, I think and I'm totally comfortable being captain if no one else is interested.

Team names...I'll start thinking about those now.

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 540 comments Hello everyone!

Great to meet everyone! I'm Karen, I'm in Massachusetts and I think this is my 5th time playing. Lots of new shelves this time so this should be interesting, and will probably add to my book collecting obsession. :)

I'm good with Paris as captain as I have a business trip in July (won't interfere with reading but will interfere with time on Goodreads).

As a very bad namer - I have no suggestions. I like Fearsome Fifteen too.

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 1193 comments I'm fine with Paris as captain

message 20: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Dude Ezi, I broke down today and had a McDonald's cheeseburger and fries. It hurt. And my throat isn't that happy with me, but I couldn't do it anymore. I truly think aside from the swollen uvula, I'm almost to the end of this and back to regular food. I weighed myself again this morning and I was down 12 lbs. Craziness since for 2 years I've been at this plateau unable to lose weight, but not gaining it either.

And just so y'all know what we're talking about, I had my tonsils out on the 20th of May and have been recovering the last week and a half. When they say recovery is hard on adults, they aren't lying.

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Just so we're ready for the start of the game, here are the Rules for Picking Your Free Space Book.

You did well. After your pain and suffering, your body wanted comfort food. Keep recovering. The hellish period is almost over!
Big hugs
(Cheeseburger and fries sounds so good!!!)

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments It was the best cheeseburger and fries I've ever had. lol not really, but almost. Next up, I want tacos and pizza, but I have to be careful cause I still can't have spicy foods or sharp foods. I'm just gonna keep trying stuff though and seeing what happens.

message 39: by Ezi (last edited Jun 04, 2013 07:37PM) (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2516 comments I finished my assassin book and gave Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5) by Richelle Mead 4-stars.
REVIEW: I think Rose Hathaway is a selfish and impulsive young girl. She means well but all her actions are self serving...well most of them.
I don't like what she did at Tarasov because she hurt guardians, her own colleagues NOT to save Dmitri like she keeps saying but to restore him to her life. She aches forhim do much that she unleashed a monster! That's crazy.

There is NO love triangle here. None.

Poor Eddie, Adrian, Mia, Sydney and anyone else who calls her friend. That's a costly friendship. Poor Adrian.
I do enjoy Abe a lot. I look forward to the Last Sacrifice because despite all that Rose is so entertaining and I love this series. Actually I love Dmitri, Adrian & Christian

I will decide on my free space book tomorrow

Although, I just double checked the rules and they state you have to post the review in the thread, not just a link so can you copy and paste your review into your post please?

Thanks!!

Assassin's Gambit (Hearts and Thrones, #1) by Amy Raby by Amy Raby
Rating: 5 Stars
Finished: 6/1/13

This was an absolutely fantastic book. I read it in one sitting and could not put it down even though it was well past my bedtime when I finished it. This book immediately reminded me what I loved about fantasy novels, but it was so much more than the fantasy novels that I used to read religiously. This book wasn’t complex or difficult to follow like a lot of fantasy novels. There weren’t too many characters or really difficult names to figure out. It was just real, plain, amazing fantasy.

I immediately fell in love with Vitala. She is exactly what I love in a heroine; strong, yet vulnerable, nearly completely fearless, yet insecure. She came out of the gate swinging and did not stop until the end of the book. Although as an assassin, she might not be the best, she is definitely the strongest female in this book. And really, who could blame her for failing her mission when the person she was supposed to kill is Lucien. How I love him…I mean, Vitala had no chance once she was brought into his world, even though he was sometimes seen as less of a man given his situation.

I cannot rave about this book enough. In fact, the more I think about it the more I’m not sure why I initially gave it just a 4.5 rating. It really should be five stars so I’m updating it as I post my review. I wish more fantasy novels were like this. Fun, fresh and not completely convoluted and overwhelming. I can’t wait to read more from this author. I look forward to checking out Spy’s Honor which is the story of two characters we meet in Assassin’s Gambit.

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Free Space

Plague Town by Dana Fredsti by Dana Fredsti
Rating: 4 Stars
Finished: 6/4/13

Why didn’t I read this book sooner? I love zombies and kick ass heroines and this book has both of those in spades. I also love pop culture references in books, which this also has including some from one of my favorite cheesy movies Starship Troopers. There was a great blend of humor and seriousness in this book as well as the wonderful horror that is a horde of zombies. I freaking love Ashley. She’s one of my favorite new (to me) heroines and I really hope that there are more books in this world past Plague Nation which recently came out.

I love Dana Fredsti’s take on zombies and the zombie virus. For the most part the zombies are the typical slow, non-thinking kind, they are hungry and that’s all that motivates them. How people become zombies was interesting and the wild cards and the others that were even more different than the wild cards were a nice twice to the zombie culture. On top of everything else, this book was pretty much non-stop action/drama/craziness from beginning to end. I really can’t wait to get my hands on the next book so I can continue on in this exciting world…and so I can get more of Ashley and Gabriel and the kick ass Wild Cards and the awesomely creepy zombies.

I really enjoyed this spin-off of the Kate Daniels series. I really like Andrea she's smart, bad ass and entertaining. A few times I would have liked to smack Raphael but he was very charming. Overall it was a good addition to the series.

Web of Lies (Elemental Assassin, #2) by Jennifer Estep
Date Finished 6/3/13
Rating 4 Stars

I enjoy this series about (semi)retired assassin Gin Blanco. The world building is good and the magic system based on command of certain elements is very creative. Gin herself is a sympathetic narrator and I also enjoy her relationships and banter with her friends. The romance so far hasn't really gone anywhere and I'm hopeful, that since one interest seems to be exiting as the other is leaving, we won't be subjected to a prolonged love triangle. Really, the only think I don't particularly like about these books is that the writing can get pretty repetitive. I can't count how many times Gin looked at something "with her gray eyes" or Sophia was referred to as "the goth dwarf". I understand that new readers need to come into a series and that readers of previous books need to be refreshed on who's who but when you're 2/3 of the way through the book and Sophia has been mentioned a number of times, you don't have to keep describing her. Just call her Sophia, we'll know who she is. But that's really just a pet peeve, I read UF for the interesting worlds, creatures and magic, for the snarky kick ass heroes & heroines and for an action packed plot with some mystery and magic and this definitely has all that. I look forward to continuing with the series.
