But somehow I loved the OTTness of Kitty, and I've reread them quite a few times now ;)

Well along with everyone else I'm sad to see the end of Sookie, but the last couple of books have been interesting only because I'd come to know Sookie and all her friends, enemies and acquaintances.
It was sorta like CH had a checklist of characters and had to come up with a plausible conclusion for them all.
I knew Sookie wouldn't end up with Eric or Bill, (she did want children eventually), but I was still disappointed with the lack of Ericness in this story, and Pam was almost non existent as well. Alcide popped up for his regulation 2 pages, so he was ticked off the list. Even Barry Bellboy made it to Sookie's place and got beaten up. Etc, etc.
The last couple of books have been setting up Sookie's final love interest so I wasn't surprised, but it certainly didn't have a dying devotion feel just a we'll suck it and see approach. Very disappointing.
All the good guys were doing well to different degrees and all the baddies met a final end. All nice and tidy.

You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'aliens'.

Good Job!! :D

I'm really starting to love this series! It's a perfect mixture of humour, mystery and interesting and very likable characters.
This time Charley has to investigate the disappearance of one of Cookies old friends, is sucked into another family drama and of course tries to unravel the mystery that is Reyes.
Charley cracks me up with her one liners, and though one may argue that she overdoes them a little, I mean there is snark in every single sentence that comes out of her mouth, I find myself enjoying them immensely. And Reyes, well, what's there not to adore about this gorgeous and sexy guy? I'd love to find out more about his back story and as much as I love his encounters with Charley, it would be nice if they could actually spend some 'corporeal' time with each other, and delve a little more into the otherworldly mystery.

Yeah, Kerstin, a group of us do it every year, July & Chrissie. It's great fun!!

Eh, just as this book started to get get good it ended. I hate that. Not exactly a cliff hanger but it felt like the climax of the book didn't quite hit the spot.
The story has potential.. Our girl Lily dies before her time. She finds herself with the option to live again but she must agree to collect souls after an after life error. She gets a smart mouthed side kick and a hotter then hot love interest to help her along the way. The story also allows for a loose comparison to Dante's Inferno. That part is a little clever and fun.
So, all the basic elements are there. They just need some fattening up. I'll give the next edition a shot if I can get for free or at least next to free.

Sandra, we've talked for ages about doing our own Xmas in July celebrations, but then we never actually get to do it...trying for next year!

We've been doing Chrissie in July for about 15 yrs or so. The same friend does it every year, and she does it again at Xmas. Woe betide anyone who even suggested someone else do it, or even to cleaning up afterwards. At least since she moved to a new place a couple of years ago she's now got a dishwasher! Thank Goodness, cause we all felt really guilty!!!

I'm just home from work and about to sit down and finish this weeks book then I'll updating everything

somehow i've managed to stay away from reviews and spoilers for this series and i'm coming in with fresh eyes and no preconceived ideas. and i must say - i loved it! so dark and gritty and the characters are flawed! they don't make excuses for it either, they just are how they are. it had enough to keep me interested and i'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the series goes :D

i'm really wanting to start

for this week i'll be catching up on

Sandra, I finished

Belinda, I can't wait for the next Kate Daniels. I forgot that a new one was on the way. Yeah!

This book was just OK. Again- all the elements are there but it just didn't spark for me. I had a hard time finishing it. Maybe I was just in the mood for something else.
Luce is our leading lady. She finds herself on her way to reform school for an awful accident that she can't explain. This is no ordinary reform school. There seems to be a lot of freedom and feels more like a boarding school. She's attracted to a boy who seems to really dislike her and has the full attention of the most popular boy who doesn't seem quite right. We end up with a love triangle of biblical proportions when we find out what and who everyone really is. Well, almost everyone.. there is a cliff hanger that leaves you wondering (but only a little) about Luce.
I don't think that I have enough interest to read the next one.

That series is pretty meh in my opinion. I believe I liked the first and second book the most. What is worse is, everyone started to love Cam so she started to use him less and less as the series goes on. I only read for the Cam. - I want to mark this part as a spoiler...but I don't know how =(

Stephanie, I kept wanted Cam to be bad and he really wasn't.. Everything just needed to be kicked up a notch-the good, the bad and the action. It's got pretty book covers going for it. Maybe if I was 16 I would have felt different. You know- the whole reform school boy thing..

This series is awesome! This book moved along at such a great pace that all of sudden it was finished and I was left wanting more. Don't get me wrong, the storyline was fast paced, exciting, heartbreaking and intriguing but by the end all I wanted was more!

The case of the missing Marguerite Argeneau, that has been building the last couple of books is solved.
Marguerite & PI Tiny have gone to London to try to track down the mystery of Christian Notte's mother. His father refuses to say who she is, and since 1491 Christian has been wondering.
A series of sword-wielding attacks, purse snatching & hotel shifting, means Marguerite is light on blood and unprepared when Christian's father Julius turns up in London, attacks Tiny and appears to have a strong connection to Marguerite. Could she and he be lifemates?
Marguerite is just getting over 500 yrs of a hellish marriage to Jean Claude Argeneau and is in no rush to be married again. The only good thing to come from her marriage is her 4 children. All now happy and lifemated.
This is probably one of the stronger books in this series, but you certainly need to have read the previous couple of books to get the full effect.

After the last few books have been a big disappointment (due to the lack of an actual gripping and interesting storyline; characters getting personality transplants; etc), I was hoping for at least a great finale to the series...but unfortunately that didn't happen.
Pretty much each and every character showed up to stand in line for a nice (or not so nice) wrap up to their story; some received one sentence some a bit more. Old enemies came out of the woodworks and got dealt with as well. And all was wrapped up in a not very interesting murder mystery.
As to Sookie's final love interest...well, I knew for a few books that he was the most likely candidate to end up with her, though I never was a big fan of his (me being one of the myriad of Eric lovers). I could have lived with it, if there would have been a bright spark, passion or real obvious love...but it just seemed so... well, boring and lacklustre and came on rather abrupt towards the end of the book.
I'm looking back with great fondness to the beginnings of this series, but after its rapid decline over the last few books, all I can say is that I'm glad it finally came to an end.

it is a winning shelf for another team so this may be our last week :(
will decide what to read later today

Not sure what I'll be reading this week...I'm thinking either

That is a funny cover. What is that guy doing? A quick glance at that little pictures looks a bit like he's sitting on the toilet..

Belinda and Stephanie- The Jim Butcher books are funny? I haven't read any of them and have two on my shelve and never quite get to them. I've never heard anyone say that they were funny. That might make me pick them up..
