Belinda | 801 comments Hmmmm....I thought he was in the toilet too! XD

The Dresden Files have some good one liners in them and occasionally he pokes fun at things too. But on a whole they're serious reads.

Stephanie (Reading is Better With Cupcakes) (imjustcupcake) | 255 comments There is humor throughout it. Dresden likes to crack some jokes.

Shelf: Supernaturals
Finished 8/4/13

Well. Dresden was at it again, and like last time it was full of action and adventure. The plot of this series is definitely starting to thicken. It will be interesting to see where things go next.

Belinda | 801 comments Lol!

I still haven't decided. I had family around for tea so haven't had a good chance to look through yet. I'm thinking I might have to re-read something at this stage...

message 359: by Belinda (new)

Belinda | 801 comments I had a huge break from this series after book 6 or 7 (other stuff just got in the way) and picked them up again recently. This is the last I currently own that I have to read.

message 360: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I've read most of them from the library, including the latest. Lately, I've picked up a few of them from the $3-$4 table at Big W.

message 361: by Belinda (new)

Belinda | 801 comments I'll look for the new one at big W next time I'm there then. Thanks for the tip :)

message 362: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well, I got some of the older ones cheap, doubt they'd have the new one yet, but worth it so keep looking. I do every time I'm there.

Sandra | 25908 comments Brawn (New Species, #5) by Laurann Dohner
Shelf: Tortured Hero
6/8/13 ★★★★

Brawn is a New Species Councilor and has been assigned to the NSO Task Force, working with the humans. They find and try to rehabilitate imprisoned NS and the Task Force is headed up by Tim Oberto. Tim wants Brawn to live in the house out the back of his for easy access when they have a mission. Just so happens that house belongs to his 29 yr old daughter, Becca, and she's not moving.

The first night, both Brawn and Becca are kidnapped by mercs and transferred to a testing facility. The mercs believe Becca is Brawn's girlfriend and they are excited.

The rest of the story follows along similar lines to previous ones, with a HEA by the end.

I enjoy these stories, though they are very similar to Lora Leigh's Breed series and are mindless brain candy. And yes I will be reading the next one.

Tortured Hero
Finished: 8/7/13
4.5 stars

Really, this book deserves 4.5 stars.

This book was intense! There were things I just did not see coming! I really don't know what I can say about this book that doesn't give pieces of it away.

I just got a bit annoyed with the "OMG he's soooooo hot" crude and the character of Six. It is these things that keep me from rating the book as a 5 star.

and as a total side note... a sequel is coming out from the guys pov. Yes. I need to read this.

Kerstin | 862 comments The Gamble (Colorado Mountain, #1) by Kristen Ashley

Shelf: Tortured Hero
Read: 9/8/13
Rating: ★★★

I know I'm in the minority here, but I didn't love this book as much as I expected after all the glowing reviews I read. It amused, annoyed and bored me in equal parts.

First of all, this book was just way too long; it went on and on...and on some more. There were a massive number of characters, all quirky and slightly nuts (which was amusing for the most part), and quite a few of them got their own side story. I would have preferred less of them, maybe one interesting sub-plot and more concentration on the main couple.

As to the characters...well, Nina was nice enough. She was strong, and fun despite carrying around a lot of baggage and she always tried to help out everyone around her. But her conversations...the amount of times that woman said 'sorry?' and 'okay' drove me slightly nuts after a while.
Max was an alpha-mountain-man, and though I know most people loved him, it took me a little to warm up to him. When he took away Nina's car keys and conspired with pretty much the entire town to keep her in his house, I didn't think it was sexy or romantic at all; just creepy. He did show over the course of the book that he was very caring and sweet as well, but then he threw something in the conversion that would make me want to slap him.
Now I know that KA is quite famous for writing uber-alpha males, and compared to her Fantasyland heroes (the only other KA I've read so far), Max was quite tame...and I liked those guys. So I think it may be one of my personal issues. I somehow don't mind the alpha guys in a paranormal/fantasy setting, but in a contemporary story I just have a hard time getting used to them...not quite sure why.

Anyway, I will give the next book in the series a try and will also sample some of the authors other series.
