Sandra | 25908 comments Binding the Shadows (Arcadia Bell, #3) by Jenn Bennett
Shelf: Angels and Demons
1/7/13 ★★★★★

Some series meander along and some just get better and better. This is one of the ones that just keep getting better.

Cady is trying to come to terms with her increased Moonpower, but something just isn't right. Jupe is fabulous and Lon is delicious when a magical crime wave hits Morella and even the Tiki Bar is robbed, and its right before Christmas.

Cady & Lon are on the case as to why the kiddie robbers have suped up knacks that should be impossible. Added to that Lon's in-laws are coming for Christmas and Cady is stressed out even more when she thinks she's seen her mother, who is supposed to be dead.

Of course, Cady & Lon solve the case, but the dead bodies are piling up and even a reincarnated Priya isn't able to assist Cady as much as he'd like.

And then there is the cliffhanger and lots of questions left hanging.

Can't wait for the next one.

Kerstin | 862 comments Thanks, Steph!

That sounds good, Sandra! I might have to wait until #4 is out though, before going on with the series...I'm not too fond of cliffhangers.

Surprisingly I quite like Street Magic. It's dark and gritty and I'm actually curious to find out what's going on.

message 205: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well that's GTK Kerstin, maybe it was just the anthology story that was bad. Some authors just shouldn't write them IMO.

And Yay!!! A stamp, thanks Steph ;)

Belinda | 801 comments Week 5: angels and demons: Finding the Lost (Sentinel Wars, #2) by Shannon K. Butcher
Finished: 4/7/13
Stars: 4

Review:
Such a better book than the first! If I hadn't had encouragement with this series I wouldn't have made it through that one but this one! Loved it! Andra was a great heroine and the substitute with Nika was great. I'm hanging to see how that goes :) And a nice little cliffhanger which I guess leads into the next novel...

Lisa M (lisamarienicholas) | 192 comments Everneath (Everneath, #1) by Brodi Ashton

Shelf: Angels and Demons
Everneath by Brodi Ashton
Finished 7-2-2013
★★★★

Everneath is a YA tale that can be best described as a modern fusion of the Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone myths.
The story was well written and I enjoyed it more than I anticipated. I really appreciated the authors writing and slow but strong character development. She had a nice way of easing you into the story and leading you thru the changing time line.
The story starts with Nikki and Jack. Nikki is an average girl who catches the heart of the most popular boy in school. Jack goes away for two weeks of football camp and Nikki disappears for 6 months.
She is lured away under stressful circumstances by Cole who of course – is not what he seems. She finds herself in the Everneath where she is a forfeit – letting Cole feed off of her emotions.
She survives her stay to resurface with 6 months to say goodbye, tie up loose ends and make some important decision before returning to the Everneath.

I especially liked the unraveling of Jack’s story and his feelings for Nikki. His side of the story is a slow mystery.
I thought the book was really nicely written. I will definitely mark the next in series to be read.

Kerstin | 862 comments Street Magic (Black London, #1) by Caitlin Kittredge

Shelf: Angels and Demons
Read: 5/7/13
Rating: ★★★

A dark and gritty urban fantasy, with a couple of very dark and flawed characters. Pete was 16 years old when she helped Jack conjure up a dangerous being and saw him die. Now, twelve years later, she is a cop and is working a case on missing children. Imagine her surprise when Jack shows up, telling her he could help her find who's behind the kidnappings. They now have to try to put their history behind them, even though there is a lot of bad blood between them, in order to find the children and stay alive.
All up a good story, but I had a few issues with the author trying a bit too hard to make the characters sound british.

Sandra | 25908 comments Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahme-Smith
Shelf: Dystopian
8/7/13 ★★★

To anyone who has read and enjoyed Pride & Prejudice this is a confronting read. It is a very interesting take on such a classic and I'm unsure whether I really enjoyed it or not, hence the 3 stars.

The zombies appear to come from some sort of plague that I think is only in England.

Miss Elizabeth Bennett and her sisters have mastered the deadly arts and have become the King's Hertfordshire Protectors against the undeadly ie Zombies. The Bennett girls have been to the Shaolin Temple to learn how to kill and they all wear daggers in ankle sheaths at all times. They would prefer Katanas but that is considered too unladylike.

So all the important parts of the book remain, even a lot of the dialogue, just with added bloodthirstiness. And I don't mean the zombies.

The zombies kill ordinary people all the time, however, none of the Bennett girls seem to have any trouble, even the usually shy Jane is extremely proficient in dispatching them.

A part I really enjoyed was the demise of Mr Collins, always really disliked that pompous man!! LOL.

$650 is a lot; I s'pose cause there won't be anymore. I know my hubby & Steph & hers were pretty upset by that news.

message 237: by Belinda (new)

Belinda | 801 comments I really enjoyed him as Spartacus and found it hard to accept Liam mcIntre in the role. However by the end of series 3 he had me too.

Lisa M (lisamarienicholas) | 192 comments Hi Team 13. I'll be reading Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver for the Dystopian shelf.

Sandra, Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorites. I think i have been given 4 copies of that book but I can't bring myself to read it.

Stephanie (Reading is Better With Cupcakes) (imjustcupcake) | 255 comments Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead
Shelf: Angels and Demons
Finished: 7.8.13
4 stars

I found the first half of this book a bit boring and slow, but at some point I fell in love with the characters. I just had to know what was happening. They were witty and just fun to be around.

Something else that was rather odd, was that I didn't really see what happening coming. Not entirely any way. That is always refreshing when a book can do that to you.

I can totally understand that from both of you, I bought it along with Sense & Sensibility & Sea Monsters when it was on a big special a couple of years ago. I can't see myself reading the 2nd one at all.

Now I just need to read and read and maybe I'll forget I ever read P&P&Z in the first place. LOL.
