Lisa P | 574 comments Hello teammates! I like the new categories too...should change things up a bit. This is my third time playing and always have a good time.

I know we have to come up with a team name. I'm not very good at that, but a google search I did for funny names came up with one that made me chuckle: "Bibliobabblers". I also will suggest "Word Warriors" as well.

message 6: by Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ (last edited May 29, 2013 04:02PM) (new)

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments It's my third time around too. I'm never very good with team names but it's very fun to see what people come up with.

Play on nine
Love book #9
Cloud Nine Readers
Nine Inch Books
Ninth Gate Demon Librarians
Ninety Nine Point Nine

Not very creative I'm afraid.

Heather ~ Marceline | 1017 comments Hi everyone, I'm so excited to play with you all! This is my sixth time playing, and I absolutely love playing this game. I too am bad at coming up with names. I like all of your suggestions the two of you came up with, but I kind of am drawn especially to Ninety Nine Point Nine. I really like that one.

Heather ~ Marceline | 1017 comments Also, we need to decide on the captain. I'd like to throw my name in as a candidate. Is anyone else interested?

message 9: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 574 comments Hi Heather, your being captain sounds great to me.

I thought of a couple more nine names
"On Cloud Nine"
"Nine Ladies Dancing"
"Nine Lives"

Anyone know what they're reading for Free Space yet?

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Hiya all !!! Preethi here ! Actually, this is my first Bingo Challenge !!

message 11: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 574 comments Hi Preethi, welcome! Hope you have as much fun as I have had playing Bingo...It's definitely an enjoyable group of ladies.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments I've never been captain and the timing of shelf announcement (Japan Standard Time) is really not the best for me. I would support Heather in her taking up the position.

message 13: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 541 comments Hi! I am Meghan! I saw this up yesterday, but I was already at work and was looking on my phone. We all know what a pain that is to post from the phone.

I think Heather will be a perfect captain!

I am glad that this is the only week I will have to suffer horrible work problems. (We lost some key employees this week, so I have to work 6p-6a for the rest of this week. :( )

That is okay because next week I will be back to my normal schedule which is only 10p-6a. As for team names, I was in the last Team 9 group and we were the Cloud Nine Assassins. So maybe not something with Cloud Nine.

Here are some other suggestions...

AssaNINE Book Assailants (working off nine)
Vivacious Mega Literary Punching (Party) Hotties (off our initials)
Vivacious Literary Party Hot Mammas
Victorious Perfume-Hatin' Literary Mamacitas

(The first one makes me think of those goofy kung fu movies where at the last second we pull out a book and whack someone over the head.)

The others were something were in another group we played with initials. I couldn't think of any other word for other initials that had to do with books or reading so I kept literary.

message 14: by Lisa P (last edited May 30, 2013 04:52PM) (new)

Lisa P | 574 comments Hi Meghan, I really like the initials idea. I tried to come up with a couple too.

Modern Hotties Perusing Literary Volumes
Hot Mommas Perusing Literary Volumes
or a take on one of yours
Very Hot Mammas Literary Party

I also really like AssaNINE Book Assailants...liked your Kung Fu movie analogy-too funny!

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments I like Mega Vicious Hit Literary Heaven....just kidding.

Heather ~ Marceline | 1017 comments Hi Megan!

I'm pretty easygoing on names, so I am fine with whatever the majority wants, but can weigh in a vote if a tiebreaker is needed.

Val - my email inbox is so confused these days. I look forward to my GR notification everyday of your post over on the Freebie board, but now I am getting so many from you on this too! :D You are almost solely to blame for the hundreds of freebies on my kindle.

message 17: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 574 comments I knew I recognized Val's name from somewhere...she is to blame for most of my kindle content as well...Thanks! I will probably never read them all, but it's nice to have choices!

I'm easy with name choice as well, it is fun to try to come up with them though. My top vote so far would go to AssaNINE Book Assailants. Anyone else have a favorite so far?

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments Guilty! I also have a little freebie hoarding problem....but it's totally under control. I'll read them all in....a few centuries. :)

Heather ~ Marceline | 1017 comments Good morning everyone, just over one day until the shelf is called. Does everyone want to put in their vote for their favorite team name?

Preethi, are you okay with me being captain? I think everyone else has said they were ok.

message 20: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 541 comments I am fine with whatever is chosen for a team name. I just like to come up with them. I also like a little variety every time I am in a different team especially since it seems that I am going to be changed up every other time. Since the 1st two times I played I was on team 8 and the 2nd two time I was on team 9. :)

message 21: by [deleted user] (last edited May 31, 2013 06:47PM) (new)

You being captain sounds good, Heather.

And, I am not very specific on the team names.. Whatever is the majority is fine by me !! Although AssaNINE Book Assailants sounds good to me.

message 22: by [deleted user] (last edited May 31, 2013 06:52PM) (new)

And, regarding the shelves.. Number 11. * Freebie not from the Goodreads shelf with that name, right?

message 23: by Heather ~ Marceline (last edited May 31, 2013 10:09PM) (new)

Heather ~ Marceline | 1017 comments I see two members of our team that like AssaNINE Book Assailants, plus one that created it. I like it too. Since everyone is saying they are good with whatever name, this seems to be getting the most talk, how bout that one ladies? Val, are you okay with this or do you have a preference? I am going to be away after 9am pacific tomorrow until the afternoon so I will see if I get responses before I leave, otherwise, hopefully you all will weigh in by shelf time. Shelves are usually posted early Saturday afternoon for me here on pacific time. What time zone is everyone else in?

Heather ~ Marceline | 1017 comments Preethi wrote: "And, regarding the shelves.. Number 11. * Freebie not from the Goodreads shelf with that name, right?"

Preethi, correct, it is not based on a GR shelf. This is a personal shelf where you will read a book that you got for free, either as a free ebook, a loaned ebook, a library book, or are borrowing it somehow. I sometimes over explain things so please let me know if that does not clear things up.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments Sorry, the name is good! Too much to drink last night...I'm wasted.

message 26: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 574 comments So after talking about all the free books on our kindles...I think I will try to use as many as I can for this game and not purchase anything new. I have not been reading much paranormal lately (been on an action/adventure kick), so looking forward to some fun reading.

Hi, Heather. Actually, the freebie will be either/or. There is a shelf. Steph mentions it here. You could pick a book from the shelf, even if said book was one you bought. Does that make sense? I think Steph set it up this way so those players who don't have a lot of free books (or reliable access to a library) wouldn't stress out or find the shelf to be unfair. I think the page number rule still applies, as well.

Sandra | 25912 comments Page number rule always applies :DDD

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments Sandra wrote: "Page number rule always applies :DDD"

I figured that was another reason for the shelf link: free novellas and short stories would be less than 200 pages.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments I'm trying to make a list of books to pick from and it's harder this time around since I'm not much for YA right now...there are a lot in the first pages of Top Shelves.

message 31: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 574 comments I've never been a YA fan, so I know what you mean Val.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments I'm having family over so I might choose my book later on Monday when I have the time...don't wait up on me.

Oops! I totally missed that part. Should have gone back and read Steph's notes on it before answering Preethi. Sorry! I was answering your question very late last night after a long day at work and then a long kids birthday party where we didn't get home until almost 10pm. I should have took more time answering that. Thanks for catching that Christina!

Heather ~ Marceline | 1017 comments Lisa wrote: "I've never been a YA fan, so I know what you mean Val."

I'm right there with you. I enjoy listening to books on tape on my commute, and tend to listen to YA since those are pretty easy to follow. When it comes to physically picking up a book though, YA is usually one of my least favs.

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 541 comments Speaking of using free books! I got this one awhile ago and should probably read it. For the shelves, I will read...

Assassins: Grave Mercy
Free Space: Unholy Magic

I need to finish another book for a team challenge (started it yesterday) and then I will start focusing on these. I am on vacation from work next week so even if I don't finish them this week I should be able to finish all of them next week.

Lisa P | 574 comments Finished my first book.

Something Secret This Way Comes (Secret McQueen, #1) by Sierra Dean
Shelf: Assassins
Read: 6/3/13
Rate: 3 stars
Review: I'm not really sure why I liked this book as much as I did, considering all the things that irritated me throughout the story...But I did like it quite a bit. The main character, Secret, is half vampire and half werewolf; which I thought brought an interesting, unique element, not normally encountered in the paranormal world. I liked the idea that she was this tough-as-nails, warrior chick, out to rid the world of evildoers...Strong women are always a plus in my mind. She is a bounty hunter who has supposedly earned quite a notorious reputation for herself in the vampire world. Here is where some of the irritation came in...I was expecting someone with fighting skills more like Cat from the Night Huntress series; but every time there was a fight scene, I was extremely disappointed. After finishing the book, I'm still not quite sure how Secret developed such a notorious reputation. I thought her fighting skills were poor at best, and she made terrible decisions...But somehow it always worked out for her in the end. I thought the story was a little too short with not enough world building...I would have loved to learn more details about the vampire and werewolf worlds, as well as more explanation of the Oracle. The Oracle seemed out of place without more background story and character development. Maybe we'll learn more of this in the next installments. The biggest irritation to me, however, was the love triangle element...I think it distracted more from the story than helped it. It was somewhat comical, and I couldn't take Secret's feelings for either of them too seriously. One love interest would have been more than enough. Despite these things, the story moved at a fast pace and I was never bored. It is full of many interesting characters that I look forward to learning more about in future books. It did finish on a little bit of a cliffhanger, which can sometimes be disappointing...But this time it just made me that much more interested in reading the next book in this series.

Lisa P | 574 comments For my Free Space I will be reading Fated (Alex Verus, #1) by Benedict Jacka This is the monthly group read for my Action/Adventure Aficionados group, so killing two birds with one stone, so to speak.

Heather ~ Marceline | 1017 comments Okay ladies, I have got with the program and have our shelf listings and book/review info in post 37 if anyone is looking for it. Things got busy this weekend and paired with it being a while since our last bingo game, kind of got behind on all that. Lisa posting her review reminded me to get with it! :D Hope everyone is enjoying their books!

Sorry to critique your work but I'm a visual person...could you add the cover pictures once the book is read? I know I should never judge a book by it's cover but I do.

@Meghan: I'm really interested to know what you think of Grave Mercy....because Audiobook Sync will have it as a free download on July 18 – July 24, 2013.

If you missed this week's freebies....well it's until the 5th.
On May 30 – June 5, 2013
Of Poseidon by Anna Banks, read by Rebecca Gibel
The Tempest by William Shakespeare, read by a Full Cast

Val, I can add covers when I get home tonight. It may be tomorrow though if things get to crazy with my sons fifth grade graduation this afternoon. I originally didn't put them to shrink the post size but if you all would prefer to see them I totally understand.
