Ok i'm really going to make myself read this week so I get caught up.

Read: Midnight by Ellen Connor
Series: Dark Age Dawning #2
Shelf: Dystopian
Read: 7/11/2013
Rate: ★★★★
This is the second book in the Dark age Dawning trilogy and picks up a few years after "the Change" and the first book takes place. This follows Dr. Chris Welsh who has been wandering alone thru the desert region of the southwest. When the Change occurred, technology crumbled and many were inflicted with a dual animal form and perished when they couldn't complete their first shift. The most deprived and criminal element's beast form was zombielike dogs that appeared as carnivorous hellhounds. Chris' PhD is actually an animal science and the study of large cats but after the change there are few survivors and he is the closest to a medical doctor any survivors have seen. So the little community he discovers is the first civilized group he's come upon in all the years of travel, and welcomes him hoping to use his medical skills. Valle de Bravo is ran by a determined woman, Rosa and her band of " Bravos". They guard the highway pass and high jack any trucks that attempt to travel thru without paying a toll. They fight day to day survival by fighting sand pirates, hellhounds, and the fear of skin walkers, who were successful in accepting and shifting into their animal forms. Females are also rare after the change and there are a high ratio of men to women which creates tension in Valle as all the males vie for the attention of the few females left. Chris adds another competitor for the few females and when he is attracted to Rosa, he tries to assist her in holding onto her leadership that is challenged by a few of the alpha males in Valle. With women as a rarity this also deals with kidnapping, rape, trafficking and pregnancy after the Change. The pace of the book was good and the romance wasn't a given, Chris has to work for it and overcome Rosa's trust issues. They also had to deal with the new gifts the Change brought and Chris' new premonitions. I really enjoyed the world building and the struggle to survive that you are immersed in while reading this story and the events that bring hope into this group of survivors.

Boo i'm not looking forward to this shelf I tried reading the host a few months ago and gave up but

So glad I changed to this I love Vlad he's so funny. This one was a quick read and I spent most of the book trying to work out who to trust. The relationship ship seems to be progressing slowly but its getting there, I think they're good for each other though.
I don't like that I have to wait for the next book though as you think you're finally getting answers to what's going on then it just ends :-(

This book was so good but so messed up. I couldn't believe how callous some of the children and staff were especially about people dying. Cia was a great character, although she was trusting she also had her eyes open to what was going on at the Testing centre (partly because the story her father told her). There are some characters that really surprised me in a bad way (view spoiler) . I'm still not sure how I feel about Tomas and Michal, I want to know what's going on but guess i'll have to wait for the next book which can't come soon enough after that ending.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

I hope this stage will pass soon.

I've finished my alian book I'll write my review when I'm on my laptop

Read: Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Shelf: Aliens
Read: 7/16/2013
Rate: ★★★1/2
Review: I have read the 3 books in the YA Lux series and of two alien races, the Arum are portrayed as deadly alien killers and seem to hunt the Luxen to extract their source energy to feed and also use humans as secondary sources with no regard to their lives. The Luxen are bright creatures of light, can heal, etc. and the Arum are opposite, total dark and sinister. Total bad guys and it is seems that the DOD is working with both races to keep control of each.
Soooo, Obsession takes a look on the other side of evil veil... Serena's best friend Mel was targeted by the Luxen after overhearing a conversation between the twin sons of the Colorado Senator, also Luxen. After meeting Serena and discussing her fears, Serena witnesses the Luxen using his powers to kill Mel. The police and DOD listen to her story and it appears the DOD sends the Arum Hunter to protect her. The cold and uncaring Hunter quickly becomes attracted to Serena and finds himself going against his DOD orders to eliminate her.
This is a Jennifer Armintrout adult novel, so the romance scenes are steamy. The relationship is just a little awkward because of the Arum's nature, but I liked seeing more than the alien thugs that are portrayed in the Lux novels. They really do have strong family ties and friendships, and several having relationships with humans. Anxious to see if this will be a stand alone novel or become a series with the big reveal that was uncovered of the upper echelon Luxen's plans. I had high expectations for this book, but some parts were just meh for me along with a few "oh come on, really" moments. As easily as the Arum are dusted in the Lux novels by teenagers, I find it amazing at how easily the Luxen fall to Hunter unless he is just that bad a$$.

I hate to nag but we have a chance to win if bingo shelf "maybe" is called this week. And not everyone of us checked in since last shelf, just checking to see if all our teamies are on board. If not, no worries but please let us know so we can ask for assistance. We are still close on a few shelves of getting our stamp and really need to get in reviews for our 4 in a row shelves just in case. Happy reading guys!

I've noticed one my reviews didn't post as well so will redo it and do my angel one (dont think I've done that one yet) in the morning.

I've wanted to read that series for ages but I don't read historicals (apart from the odd one or 2) so scared to start them.

Read: Sever by Lauren DeStefano
Shelf: FREE SPACE
Finished on July 20th

REVIEW
Sever was an enjoyable read, but I was somewhat disappointed with it. Most of the questions I had after reading the first two were answered, but some things weren't explained that well and others not at all.
I was always a little iffy on whether or not I liked Rhine, but this book helped me decide - I don't. She was just so annoying and very dull in this book.
One of the things that wasn't explained all that well were the Chemical Gardens - it was just sort of an overview of it.
If you've read the first two you'll probably want to read this one, just to get some closure, but be prepared that it's not that great.

I really enjoy R. Mead's writing , so if I finally can sit down with my book for more than 5 minutes, I'll finish it quickly

Read: Stygian's Honor by Lora Leigh
Shelf: Paranormal Mix
Read: 7/27/2013
Rate: ★★★
Review: This is a very large series and this book is #27, so I'm going to add a little world building snap shot into The Breed series. The Genetic Counsel [very bad guys] started mixing human and predator animal DNA in laboratories about a hundred years ago to create the Breed. These highly intelligent, physically superior breed survivors were just experiments and treated as lab samples including torture and experiments to test their limitations and endurance. Several centuries later it was finally revealed to the public the horrors that occurred under the Genetics Counsel as all the Breeds are freed and released from labs and pulled together under an organized Breed nation. The Breed's now offer security services to the government and are very high tech in their attempts to recover other survivors and destroy any other hidden labs. The Mating Heat and all the side effects of the genetic blending add to the true soul mate animal characteristics that come out in the romantic discovery, as partners become addicted to each other.
This story brings together Stygian a wolf breed and Liza Johnson from the Navajo reserve. This follows an over arching storyline involving Jonas Wyatt the Breed Director and his search for a cure to help his adopted baby daughter. Time is critical and her mysterious illness is getting worse. The main focus in this edition is the search for the lab victims of the Genetic Council Honor Roberts, Fawn, Gideon and Judd. The trail leads to an incident that happened ten years ago in a canyon in the Navajo territory and the secrets the elders of the tribe are trying to keep buried.
For me, this story dragged in the first half due to the struggle of Liza to deny and fight the mating heat with Stygian. She also has a secret that is a game changer in the series and coming to terms with this new realization. Fortunately the action picks up in the second half and the wolf gets his girl, like they really have any choice. LL's love scenes just have a little TMI for me and admit I have to speed scan thru the details after the first round to two. After the pre-spurting starts I had to make a dash thru the words... But it ended with enough of a reveal and twist to the storyline I'll still read on.

I'll go with

Green-Eyed Demon
Frost Burned
Shadowspell
Tricked
I am done with Poison Princess and still need to write that one up as I finished it on vacation.
Picking for my aliens shelf -

Still trying to figure the other shelves out.

Im still not sure how much I like this series, I love Jim and the angels but i'm not always sure about the people they have to save. I'd been putting this book of for a while mainly because I didn't like the glimpse of Veck in BDB but I actually liked him in this book think getting his background helped. Think the fact it was set in Caldwell helped with my enjoyment of it because I like to get glimpses of the brothers or their hangouts.
Eddie :'-( thats def going to make me move up the next book in the series.

This book was so good and change my opinion of Alien books. I'd heard nothing but good things about this series but had been putting it off because I heard there are normally cliff-hangers but I wasn't bothered by the ending of this one. Loved Daemons character even though I probably shouldn't because he's so arrogant but when you find out his story you understand why he is the way he is which is mainly to protect his sister Dee. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I really enjoy this series but haven't picked it up for quite a while, I was wondering where this was going to go after quite a bit was resolved in the previous book. The whole fight club was a good story-line but I thought they took way to long to do anything about it especially with Glory, the Vamps especially knew what she was like. I still find Amelie quite annoying, she's so secretive but doesn't mind involving herself in Clare's life.

Book: Green-Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells
Finished: 6/7/13
Rating: ★★★★★
This is the third book in the Sabina Kane series and so far my favorite. I like the evolution of Sabina’s character and her developing relationships with Adam and Giguhl; she’s a bit softer in this book as she explores her inner self. Wow, that sounds a bit sappy and really the book isn’t that at all. It’s full of fast paced action as Sabina heads to New Orleans to find her twin sister. The addition of a drag queen, voodoo priestess, dwarf and werewolf all add to the complexity of this series.

Book: Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs
Finished: July 2, 2013
Rating: ★★★★1/2
When I finished River Marked, the sixth book in the Mercy Thompson series, I wasn’t quite sure which direction the series was going in. Well, with Frost Burned, I have no doubts; the series is back on track with everything that I fell in love with in Books 1 through 4.
Mercy is an interesting character for me. She’s strong, but not that angry, kick-ass heroine we get in a lot of UF books. She seems normal; well as normal as one can be when one is a shapeshifter. Maybe it’s the mechanic thing or perhaps her ability that gets her stuck in the middle of every seeming event that happens around her. In Frost Burned, that is no different. While on a shopping trip with her step-daughter Jessie, Adam and the pack are kidnapped and it falls upon Mercy to find them.
The conflict forces Mercy to fight to save the ones she loves in a complex and nail biting showdown with a mysterious force that has been manipulating everyone in Tri-Cities area without their knowledge. The ending is action packed and well resolved. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.

Book: Shadowspell by Jenna Black
Finished: July 1, 2013
Rating: ★★★★
Shadowspell is part of a young adult type series by one of my favorite authors Jenna Black. I loved and adored her Morgan Kingsley series so I just had to check out Faeriewalker.
Overall I enjoyed Shadowspell and it does have an absolutely gorgeous cover that initially drew me in. I had read Glimmerglass, the first book in the series, a while ago. My lasting impression was that although I liked it, I didn’t love it. I felt Dana was a bit of a spoiled brat and there was a lot of world development that was set up for the series.
However, Shadowspell had none of these issues for me. The story was the focus of this one and boy did it deliver. The numerous plot developments have me intrigued and I can’t wait to consume the next in the series Sirensong. What is going to happen with the Erlking? Does Ethan ever recover? What about Keane; are they an item or not? Inquiring minds must know!!

My modem died so I've been wifi-less. Traveling today so another yay for airport wifi...
I didn't get as far as I'd like with Darkhouse so I'm switching my supernatural pick to

Ahhhh. Curran time.... Kate has already called him "Your Furriness". Love it!!

Book: Shadows Before the Sun by Kelly Gay
Series: Charlie Madigan #4
Shelf: Angels & Demons
Read: 7/5/2013
Rate: ★★★★
Review:
This picks up where the last book left off with Charlie going after her partner Hank, the Siren. He has been taken back to his world for trial and Charlie is determined to bring him back. There is also a fae murder to solve for the impatient Druid King, Pen. She is also learning more about her new abilities on her journey and discovering what it all means. She gets some unexpected help from the Oracle on her journey. A lot of excitement and battles kept this moving at a good pace. Some romance as Charlie deals with the possibility of Hank becoming more than just her partner. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes a strong heroine and other worldly action.
