REVIEW

Wither was an interesting book. I didn't really read all of the back cover before I started it, so I didn't know what the book was about. The reason I don't completely read back covers is that I have had way too many bad experiences when I do that, where everything up to 2/3 thirds into the book (sometimes even further) was given away and that makes it very boring to read, so I rarely bother to read back covers anymore. I try to go based on friends recommendations for the most part and when I can't I skim the description of the book to get the gist of what it's about. Anyway, I knew the book dealt with a virus that killed women at 20 and men at 25 and so people married young. But what I was surprised to learn was that not only were people marrying young, but they were being forced into marriages and that there was rampant polygamy, with brides who were kidnapped and very young. Slavery was also widely accepted again, but as far as I could tell it was more like how in older times people would have hired helped that lived in and worked from sunup to sundown - just without pay and no time off.

The setting of this story is an interesting one. However, I personally didn't find it to be a very believable one. The idea that there was a third world war and that it demolished all the continents but North America (the continent with the most advanced technology) was a bit far-fetched to me, but nonetheless intriguing. But if all the other continents were destroyed along with the ice caps, wouldn't that have changed the shape of North America? This is part of what was so unbelievable. In Wither America is exactly the same shape as it is today. And as much as I'd like to believe that America is the most technologically advanced, I don't think that's the case.
Also since they aren't able to import things anymore, how is it possible that they are able to have everything still available to them - some things would be almost impossible to come across.

The way the story is set up, we are supposed to feel sorry for Rhine, but that was a little hard to do. Yes she was kidnapped to be a bride, but is she living in horrible conditions? No. Is she being forced to do anything that she doesn't want to do? No. Is she being kept in one room and never allowed to go outside or talk to other people? No. Is she being catered to and having almost her every whim granted? Yes. So why then is her life SO terrible? I know it's not ideal, nobody wants to be forced to be somewhere they don't want to be, but it's not THAT bad and it could be SO much worse. Instead of being married to Linden, she could be married to his father - if you read the story you will know how terrible that would be! Now don't misunderstand me, I still like Rhine, but it was just hard to relate to her.

You might be wondering why then I have given this book 4 stars. Well...I loved a lot of the other characters in the book and even though the setting and plot aren't the most likely or believable things they were thought provoking and interesting. I plan on reading Fever, the next book in the trilogy.

REVIEW

This book was a little better then okay so that's why I'm giving it 3 stars, but it wasn't that great.

I didn't care for Nikki at all, she was just so annoying! The whole reason she's in the mess she's in is because she jumped to conclusions and refused to hear someone out. I personally think she deserved to go back after reading this story...(view spoiler)

I might read Everbound, the next book in the series, but not anytime soon.

Lis | 4037 comments I'm finishing up this weeks pick and should be able to post my review by Sat.

I've been continuing with the Secret McQueen series I started for my "Assassins" shelf pick and read thru all but the 6th one. Then I'll be caught up and have to wait until the new releases. Do you prefer to wait until a series is complete before starting, or read along as the writer publishes?

Book: A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
Rating: ★★★★
Finished: 29/06/13

I really enjoyed this book, I don't usually read classics but wanted to get into reading them so thought i'd start with a story I already knew. The film seems to have mostly stuck to the book so I wasn't to shocked by anything that happened (apart from her dad :-( ).
Sara is such a great character and such a positive girl even in her most down times, I laughed a lot at her little "imaginings" its funny the way children think but a lot of these were to help other children through their own problems. I'll def try some more of Frances Hodgson Burnett books as the films are childhood favourites of mine and I like the way the books are written.

I need to make a dent in my cover love book so I can go back and finish my free space book.

I've not heard of that series i'll have to check it out. quite a few of my series already had a few books out when I got into them but most are still continuing. So i've normally ended up reading them back to back then stuck having to wait and when they do come out i just buy them and leave them there because I know something will happen and i'll have to wait a year to find out the outcome ( I don't like cliffhangers).
This is why I like this game because it actually gives me an excuse to pick them back up and get into the worlds again. I've got 2 series that are almost over (this year and next) so i've been holding off reading the last few books till I have them all, but not sure how long that will last.

Read: Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost
Series: Night Prince #2
Shelf: Cover Love
Read: 6/29/2013
Rate: ★★★★

Review:
I really enjoyed more Vlad and Leila time. These are quickly becoming two of my favorite characters in Ms Frost's world. This story had a nice quick pace and a lot of momentum to keep it interesting. Poor Vlad has yet another traitor in his midst and they go after Leila. Which is unfortunate since (view spoiler) This is everything you expect in a relationship with Vlad the impaler aka Dracula, with centuries of collected enemies. But the perks are great...super steamy sex and absolute devotion. I love Vlad!

Free Space:
Book: Ever After by Kim Harrison
Link: On the SOS Bookshelf
Finished: 6/12/13
Rating: ★★★★★
Tink’s Little Green Apples - This series continues to be one of my favorites. Although Ivy is sparse in the story; Rachel, Jenks, Algaliarept, Newt and Trent are all present and didn't disappoint. I am going to be so sorry when this series ends!!

Rachel and Trent’s relationship continues to develop and for all their differences they combine to bring out the best of each other. I don’t want to say too much about the story; because there is a lot going on and this is one book you just need to read without alot of spoilers. But I can say that Harrison’s world building is at finest in Ever After and the threads she has laid in the precursors to Ever After are now woven into a complex and rich story; which hopefully will resolved as I hope in the series finale. Best read in order to truly appreciate the depth of the series, jumping into the middle is not recommended.

Week 2: Book Boyfriends
Book: It Had to Be You by Jill Shalvis
Finished: June 21, 2013
Rating: ★★★★

Why can’t all town’s be Lucky Harbor and have great guys like Luke in them? Whenever I need a dose of romance I know this is the perfect series to sit down and read.

Ali Winters has her life together, or so she thought; when the mysterious disappearance of money her boyfriend is raising for the construction of Lucky Harbor’s new senior center goes missing. Since Ali was the last person in the office she is blamed and there is no one on her side. Enter Luke Hanover, Los Angeles detective who has fled back to Lucky Harbor to get his life together. Although jaded from his life and career, he trusts Ali and jumps into to support her and solve the mysterious money disappearance.

Ali and Luke are such a great couple I loved both of them instantaneously. There is heat right of the bat for them and their meeting is more than memorable (I would just die if that happened to me!!). Although they have an attraction, their romance simmers for a bit and then boils over into a hot steamy concoction. The perfect summer read and although it is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone novel.

Book: If I Should Die by Amy Plum
Series: Revenants #3
Shelf: Cover Love
Read: 7/2/2013
Rate: ★★★★★

Final book in Revenants trilogy and a great end to one of my very favorite series.
This book was so action packed and everything happened so quickly and so many twists were fitted into this final book.

I would have never guessed the ending after how the second book ended and the story of mortal girl Kate and immortal boy Vincent got a really surprising ending.

There are so many good things about this trilogy that I like: Paris setting, original supernatural characters and well written story about endless fight between good and bad. I was caught up with it from the first page to the last.
