Nora Roberts - Public Secrets
Public Secrets by Nora Roberts

SOMETIMES THE BEST KEPT SECRETS ARE THE ONES EVERYBODY KNOWS...

EMMA. A frightened, lonely child, the illegitimate result of a pop music star's secret union. Until the magical day when her famous father rescues her and leads her into a very public, star-studded world of wealth and privilege.

EMMA: Happy, contented, devoted half sister to a new baby. Until the horrible night when men attempt to kidnap her brother. The night that shocks the world--and tears apart the very fabric of Emma's life.

EMMA. The overprotected child of a star, hounded by the press. Until the wonderful day when she discovers her own artistic talent and the secret fire that roars for her in the arms of a man--a fire that can burn out all too soon.

EMMA. Determined, self-sufficient career woman, her father's greatest strength. Until the chilling moment when she realizes that the darkest secret of all may be buried in her mind--a secret that someone might kill her to keep.

A novel of the passions Emma inspires--the saving love of one man ... the unremitting hatred of another.

Teryl This one is written different, it's not your typical romance formula. It's more about Emma's life. The hero/heroine part is pretty small in the grand scheme of things. The mystery part kept me going. I do remember crying in several parts of this book.

This is one of my fav Nora books and a fav book in general. The romance may not be as prevalent, but I thought the story was really well done. I've read it a bunch of times and each time it sucks me in.

message 4: by Miss Kim (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) I don't think I've read this one.

message 5: by Holli (new)

Holli I really enjoyed this one......its been awhile since I read it but I remember liking it.

message 6: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mkloempken) This was the first Nora Roberts and first romance novel I read. I think I found it in my closet after I switched rooms with my sister...but I have been hooked on Roberts ever since.

message 7: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (wstridgerunner) This one was a very good book but for some reason it draw me in like her others have done, I don't know why. This title I didn't keep. I may pick it up again in the near future and do a re-read on it, to make sure it wasn't just me.

Suzanne | 13 comments I loved this book. Since it is more of a mystery book, I would check the cover every so often to be sure that Nora actually wrote it. I will definitely keep this one; I have had it for several years.

Samantha (samanthadelayed) | 2 comments I really enjoyed this book. I loved the rock band elements and I really enjoyed the main characters

message 10: by Emily (new)

Emily (imabrooks2) | 81 comments I just read this one last week and I really enjoyed it. I loved taht it followed key events in Emma's life and we were able to follow that. I guessed who the "bad guy" was right from the start but still enjoyed the mystery. I was also different from any of her other books so that made it kinda refreshing. she has never done one where she started from the childhood and followed the charecters whole life before. I enjoyed that.

message 11: by Cherise (new)

Cherise Spencer | 3 comments This was one of my most favorites I have read it more then once and i will def read it again. I have one of my best friends reading it right now and she is loving it too.

Stacy | 41 comments I really enjoyed reading this one. I liked the rock star elements that surronded the main characters. I loved all the characters! This is one that i'll be passing along to my aunt, another huge Nora Roberts buff!

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 86 comments This is one of my all time favorites. I really enjoyed seeing Emma grow and flourish once she got out from under her revolting husband.
The plot also reminds me of another favorite "River's End".

I have this one out, waiting for me to reread it (again). As best I can remember, it's the first NR book I read and remains one of my very favorites. I was recently giving a coworker some NR recs and it made me want to read this one again. Which is good timing since every year on my birthday I pick out one of my favorite books to reread. Looks like it'll be this one this year.

message 16: by Jenni (new)

Jenni (jenniz) This is one of my faves also. I liked how it spanned Emmas life. From childhood into adulthood. Its the type of story you can really sink into. I have reread this one a few times.

There's so much I love about this book, I think it's one of Nora's best.
You feel so much for Emma and feel like you're going on the decades long journey with her.
I also love the band and how they evolved, Brian, Stevie, Johnno and PM.
And I loved the romance between Emma and Michael and Brian and Bev.

message 18: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (tweeti) | 32 comments This has always and ever been one of my favorites of NR's books. I got so angry with Brian and Bev and Stevie...and I think that's what shows how good a book is. You start to feel emotions towards or for or, even, with the people in them. This is one of those that I really did. That's why I don't read it very often.

I'm currently 132 pages into my reread. And even though I've reread this book more times than I can count I'm still sucked into it. This is such a fantastically done story. Right now I'm settling into bed for some quality reading time with Emma, Michael and Devastation.

I finished my reread. I just adore this book. I'm always sad when I get to the end and don't have more to read. I almost feel like I could flip right back to the beginning and start over again.

And one of the problems I always have when I reread a fav NR book is that it makes me want to pull out another of my favs to read. Which I'm currently debating with myself about. I would so love to reread another NR fav (probably either True Betrayals or Birthright), but I've got so many new books I should be reading. *sigh*...wonder which side will win ;)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 213 comments It's been awhile since I last reread this one but I always go back to it again when I want a good standalone book to read...but then, I do that with so many of Nora's books.

Yay Jonetta! I'm glad you liked it. I honestly think it's one of Nora's best, if not her best, IMO, so amazing and complex. I found myself wanting more from Brian's perspective, but still I loved every page.

Maribel (itsmemaribel) | 64 comments Wow! this story was just WOW!!
I kind of realized who the culprit was right off, but I was completely enthralled.
I cried through several parts. And I really felt for Emma.
This novel sort of reminded me of "River's End"

Yes amazing, this title is definitely going into my re-read pile!

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, I could never seem to get into this noval either, ugh! Here lately, I can never seem to enjoy/like/get into a real good story and I can't seem to figure that one out.
This story felt like it was so London-like that I kept thinkin' more about the Beatles or The Spice Girls than tryin' to figure out who the villian was or tryin' to enjoy the actual storyline. I just didn't like it so I gave up on it. I really did feel sorry for poor little ol' Emma...but it was kinda dreadful for me. And it didn't have that "wow factor" for me to really get into and continue until the bitter end, lol!

I personally loved it and how it spanned so many years, locations and character evolvement. It also had me experiencing a full range of emotions. When Emma is trapped in that bad relationship, I just wanted to scream at those around her. It's easy to see how this can happen, though, in real life.

I agree, Jonetta. this book seems different in the amount of time frames that are focused on. I really enjoyed how we got to see a substantial amount for each "era"
And yes I approve of the way her bad relationship was represented, it shows how easy it is for people to get trapped and for outsiders not to see or understand.
