Allie Gerard | 12 comments This book had a black and white cover, with a sketched picture of a young girl sitting cross-legged with a book in her lap. She was probably wearing a black coat or robe and a stereotypical "witch hat."
There were illustrations in the book as well, all black and white.
I believe the title was two words, one of which was "witch." I'm leaning toward "Young Witch" right now. The author's last name is pretty cemented in my mind as Lovelace. I remember that the author was male, which rather surprised me. Maybe it was Jack Lovelace?

I don't honestly remember much about the plot, but I remember really enjoying the book. I read it around 2003 or 2004, but I think it was published closer to the 70s or 80s, early 90s at the latest.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS

All I remember from the plot was that the young witch in question meets two twins who may have been some kind of circus act, and that they had a dog who was an alcoholic. The main plot is lost on me, but I know the witch and friends had to go to some enemy castle to defeat the big bad.
At the end of the book, the witch invites the dog home with her on the condition that he stops drinking. The dog might have once been human?

It's possible that the witch wasn't very good at magic. I also somewhat remember that scrying played a part in the book.

Any and all suggestions appreciated!

Allie Gerard | 12 comments BLESS YOU AND ALL YOUR PROGENY THAT IS IT. Looks like I had both the name and the author's name a little bit off. Time does tend to scramble things...

SOLVED!
