Variant Buddy Read!

Jenny and I are starting a buddy read of tomorrow!

This buddy read is open to everyone who would like to join us!! There are no set chapters per day, we just read at our own paces and start each post with how far along you are, i.e., Chapter #, %, or page #, using spoilers where needed. Have fun!

Woot, woot, this worked out so well for me :)
My daughter stole the library book from me right when I got it and already read it, she loved it. She read it really fast, which is unusual for her, so I'm taking that as a good sign!

NO KIDDING. hahhah... I'm starting on Friday with Meaghan. And I know that Jen wants to push right on to soon (me too)! I hope to finish up our read of Icons tonight. And then I need to throw in a R&R I'm doing and I still have Dan Brown's new book to read somewhere in there. Hehehhe...

Okay, I'm 43% of the way in. I'm really enjoying it so far. It kind of reminds me a little of the Maze Runner. (view spoiler)[ I am guessing this is all some kind of experiment, but to what, I'm not sure. Making the kids sleep outside in the cold, punishing them by no food for losing a paintball game...like some of the kids said, very random! (hide spoiler)]

Lol speed readers at it again! Just kidding, it's a quick one. I barely had any reading time today and I'm still already 21% in. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would! I was thinking the same thing Jenny, reminds me of a combo of a few books, including Maze Runner. I'm hoping I like where it's going, I'm worried I won't, but for now it totally has my attention! Oh and how bout the MC being named Benson!? Made me think of Karen right away, maybe we should start calling her by her last name lol!!

Also, the Detention thing reminds me of the "leaving" thing in Gone. Like they don't know where they went but they never came back. There should be many more kids there!

Good comparison, I was also thinking of the Gone series, too, in that its just kids trying to handle everything.

Variant is available at my elibrary so I placed a hold on the audiobook. I'll listen to it this time around so I can get my V. Hehehhhe... It's been a very long time since I read it so I'm due for a reread before reading book 2 since I saw that it's out.

Sounds great! I definitely want to read on! I really enjoyed this book and I had no idea until the acknowledgements that it was written by Dan Wells brother, so cool! So here are my final comments (view spoiler)[ At first I was like, ugh no more androids! I wanted it to be less scifi for a change, but in the end it definitely drove suspense and made for a good ending. If say my biggest gripe is the whole "we're testing robots here" thing, just seems a lot unrealistic, like more than most scifi books! But I really did enjoy the book and was pretty surprised by the cliffy ending. Can't wait for the sequel! (hide spoiler)] Thanks for reading with me Jenny, can't wait to hear what you think of the ending!!

WOAH..that was just insane! Just finished it, and I really liked it! And what a cliffhanger, I really want to read Feedback now! (view spoiler)[ The androids were creepy, and it did finally start to make sense at the end...it was all a computer program! I can't believe Mason and Carrie were androids! What really surprised me was how most of the kids didn't want to try to escape right away. I realize some of them were androids, but did they honestly think the school was going to negotiate with them? Crazy! The creepy animals in the forest gave me goosebumps! (hide spoiler)]

Yeah is was just (view spoiler)[the wrong experiment! It was for the androids, not the kids! I'm not sure about Isaiah, but I don't think he's an android. My thought is that they use the dead kids' bodies for the androids. Just a guess. Ew (hide spoiler)]

Feedback is out, it was released in October. My library doesn't have it,though. I may have to request it! lol

Honestly, one think I liked about the book is that I was left feeling clueless at the end lol! I have no guess. Nothing. Every thing you said is possible but I hope it's not your first guess yuck!

Lol okay, maybe I just have a gross mind or something, but its my hunch. I'm sure there's probably a lot more to it for us to learn in the next one! The Wells brothers have a similar style with that!

Ugh just read the reviews for the sequel, they're pretty rough. And a lot of the ones are people that loved Variant being really disappointed in the second book. My bubble is officially burst :(

They are really all over the board, I see that most of them are 3 stars--a lot of people said they didn't like it as much as Variant, and a lot of people didn't like the ending. Now I have to debate whether to read it or not. I almost want to, just to see what they are talking about lol!

I know! I need some friends to read it too :( Unless I can get a free copy, I probably won't read it. I can't afford to shell out 10 bucks for a book there's a good chance I won't like that much.

I agree completely! I can't afford to shell out $10 for books I DO like lol! That is a major bummer. Well, atleast we enjoyed Variant only you only paid $2 for that!

Exactly! I'm happy about that :) It just sounds like the sequel may not have as much action or interesting characters. Plus it appears there will be a Becky Jane Benson love triangle boo!

This series definitely doesn't need a love triangle! ugh
If it ever comes into my library, I may read it, we will see...I have so many other books I want to read this summer and the list just keeps growing!
