Kelly Hull (kellyvan) | 81 comments Getting close to finishing the sequel to Tent City. I have a new character in this book named Annie, but something feels off about it. I'm looking for suggestions for names. Here's the catch. It has to be a name that would be popular maybe in 20 years. For example, Bentley is a name that people are using on their babies now and he is a character in this book. I also use names that are popular nowadays, but I like to have some of my characters reflect likely future times, one example being how names change. I guess we can thank Teen Mom for giving popularity to the name Bentley. Who would have thought. Any and all suggestions welcome. This is one of the characters who has an "advancement." Think superpower, but not, so the edgier the better :)

message 4: by Taylor (new)

Taylor I'm thinking that if its 20 years ahead then the names that are popular now would be popular.
I like:
Axel
Rain
Soren
Phoenix
Tempest
Rye
Verity
Kira
Nyx
Azure

Jenelle Compton | 21 comments Sophie (Sophia) or Hannah. I know several toddlers with both names :)
prob thanks to Teen Mom and Hannah Montana

I have a toddler, and her friends that aren't named Sophie or Hannah have natural names like River or Skye. There seems to be a trend of that type of name lately.

Also: My daughters names is Deandra. Which I clearly think is awesome, but probably isn't as popular :)

Kelly Hull (kellyvan) | 81 comments Thanks guys. These are all great suggestions. If I remember, I will post back what who Miss Annie is going to be :) Leaning towards Rain or Skye.

message 7: by Bethany (new)

Bethany My daughter's name is Emery. I like it because I rarely come across others with that name. I'm big on originality.

Kelly Hull (kellyvan) | 81 comments Love Emery lots, but I have an Avery :) Going to crank the final portion out in the next couple of weeks, but even then her named could be changed in the edits. Never had a problem naming before. I think it's because her "advancement" is so unusual.

I think in the future people will try naming their kids with unique, yet not unheard of, names that you won't hear often, but are still...spell-able? Ones that come to mind are:

Vera
Athena
Victoria
Valene (pronounced (Vah-LEN-nay)
Livia (pronounced (LIVE-ee-ah)
Naevia (it's pronounced either NAH-vee-ah or Neh-vee-ah)
Melina
Diona
Mira
Saxa
Balesa (Bah-lease-ah)

Hope this helps, I could just be crazy =P

Melissa Martin (sneakmeeks) | 22 comments Anaya. Pronounced Uh-nie-yuh. This was almost my daughters name but Ylienna (said with Spanish accent, kind of like if you say ill-yenna really fast) won thanks to her Puerto Rican daddy.
