Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11231 comments 25.6 - Elizabeth B's task: Off to the Mediterranean Sea
The Mediterranean Sea is bordered by three continents, Europe, Asia and Africa. Several ancient civilizations were located around its shores; thus it has had a major influence on those cultures. It has also been called the incubator of the Western civilization.

Twenty-one countries have coastline along the Mediterranean Sea: Coastal Countries

For this task, choose one of the following options:

Option A: Read a book with at least 500 pages, set in a any of the countries on the Mediterranean Coastal Countries list.

Option B: Read two books with a total page count of at least 500 pages, set in a any of the countries on the Mediterranean Coastal Countries list. The two books may be set in the same Mediterranean Coastal Country or they may be set in different Mediterranean Coastal Countries.

To qualify, at least 50% of the book must take place in an appropriate location.

NOTE: ebooks without print versions cannot be used for tasks requiring a specific number of pages. If you read an ebook or listen to an audiobook, use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardcover edition.

Required: State the page numbers for your book(s) and, if the location(s) are not obvious in the Goodreads description of the book, please explain the connection when you post.

Lindsey, I read that book a couple years ago before I went to Italy. Regrettably, I don't speak Italian but I thought it was a delightful book.

Andrea (deja05) | 100 comments Would The Great Sea: A Human History of the Mediterranean work for Option A? It's a non fiction book.

If not, would The Time in Between work for Option A? It appears to be set in Algiers and Spain.

Great to hear, Donna Jo! I just found it today and thought it looked really good. If it won't work for this task, I will definitely be keeping it on my to-read list. I don't know if I'll ever speak Italian, but I'd love to try. I usually find something ugly in every language I sample, but Italian is the one that has nothing ugly about it. It really is la bella lingua!

I'd say yes for multiple locations but the story has to take place in an actually excisting location. As I understand from the book description this book is set in Equatoria, so I don't think it is acceptable. Sorry :(

Check the number of pages with the edition you have. If it has more than 500 pg it fits with option A. If it has less then it fits option B and you need to read another book to complete the task.

This edition works for option A (503 pg). Just make sure that you link the correct edition when you post:)

Dee (austhokie) | 9102 comments before I get too far into it - is Afterwards: Slovenian Writing 1945-1995 (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11...) work for Option B - it is a collection of short stories/essays/poetry from Slovenia which is one of the countries - all translated - my natural assumption is that they are set there (the 3 essays I have read dealt with the role of literature in the country)...
