How to find a non-copyrighted photo?

One of my favourite writers still hasn't got a photo, and I haven't been able to find one without a copyright attached. Is there anywhere I should look?
She died a few years ago so can't exactly ask her website etc.

Her publisher might have a picture that is allowed to use, I don't know if it's worth a shot asking them?
