Rose Kelleher (rosekelleher) | 6 comments Hi,

I originally published "Donna Fanciullo" under a pen name (Sullivan, ISBN 1468148826). Later I republished it under my real name (R. M. Kelleher, ISBN 1484150473). The old edition is now out of print. I added the new edition to Goodreads, but it only shows up when I search by ISBN. If I search by title or author, I get the old edition. Can someone please fix this for me, or tell me how to fix it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Search is cached, and can take some time (up to 48 hours, sometimes) for the search index to update with new books. Searching by ISBN or ASIN usually updates within minutes.

Deon (deonva) | 3718 comments I have combined these books, and added the ISBN 10.

Search is taking a little longer to re-index than normal, wait 24-48 hours it should start showing up.

Rose Kelleher (rosekelleher) | 6 comments Dear rivka and Deon, It's been almost four days now, and I'm still only seeing the old edition when I search. Try searching on "Donna Fanciullo" - you get the original version that was published under a pen name (Sullivan), and that's it.

I realize this is ultimately my own fault for being indecisive; I should have used my real name to begin with. But anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. If you need to delete the original edition, that's fine with me, FWIW.

That's because searching by title will always bring up a book's primary/default edition. You can change which one is the default: http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/31...

Rose Kelleher (rosekelleher) | 6 comments Thanks, but when I click on "Edit Details" I'm not seeing an option to "Set this book as the primary edition for this work".

I think that may be because I used a pen name originally, so the system thinks I'm not the author and don't have the right to make changes.

If you can just delete the original edition for me, that would solve everything. If you can't do that, can you please set the new edition as the default edition for me?

Sorry to be a pain.

You need to be logged in as R.J. Sullivan.

Goodreads does not delete published editions.

Rose Kelleher (rosekelleher) | 6 comments I can't log in as R. J. Sullivan. Apparently there's another author by that name, and the system thinks that person is the author of my original edition. My fault, I know, but I must say it's unusual for a computer system to go solely on the basis of names to match things up rather than a unique ID of some kind.

Rose Kelleher (rosekelleher) | 6 comments Maybe the best solution would be to un-combine the two editions and just let them be treated as two different books, by two different authors, which just happen to have the same title. My original problem was that the new edition wasn't showing up in the search results. If I understand correctly, that was only because it hadn't been indexed yet.

Sorry, I hadn't realized. I separated your book off from those of that author and made the new edition primary.

We do not separate different editions of a work, and all editions will have as primary author the original author of the first edition. However, searching by title should now bring up the newer edition.
