Craig | 23 comments I did not think I will Ike audio books until I listened to one just to see what the fuss was about. I instantly fell in love. Now I read two books at a time one when I use my ereader at home relaxing and then read/listen to one during my daily commute or while doing chores. I bought a blue tooth wireless device as well so that when standing in lines I can continue to listen. One of my friend saw the number of audio books I have and looked at me funny, I let her listen to a chapter and now she accuse me for getting her hooked on audio books.

Laura (lauradollie) | 3 comments I'm an illustrator, so I'm usually listening to books while I'm working. I listen when I do the dishes and when I drive too.

That's terrific being able to listen to a book while working, Laura

That's par for the course with King in my opinion. Great writer, but a weak finisher.

If you listen on your phone the Smart Audiobook Player app has a nice little sleep feature. If the phone doesn't move for 10 minutes the audiobook fades out and stops.

Berni | 1 comments I drive to and from work :)

Good to know, J. I am not familiar with the Smart Audiobook Player.

I have been using Overdrive for my library loan audiobooks.

Thanks.

Robes Pierre (robespierre) | 2 comments Lifelong insomniac, stopped fighting it and took up audiobooks about 8 years ago. Put in ipod dock set sleep timer for 1.5 hrs. sometimes i'm asleep by end of timer sometimes not so much. I have now listened to over 1000 audiobooks, and has added to my knowledge of history in particular but many subjects across quite a few genres. Audiobooks have been a godsend for me.

message 359: by Steve (new)

Steve Ault (coujjo) | 1 comments I am a truck driver and work mostly at night. As you can imagine, it can get very boring driving at night with nothing to do but watch the little white reflectors go by endlessly. Audiobooks make my days fly by for the most part. There are even times when I can't wait to get to work to continue my story!

message 360: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Rivera (trivera68) | 6 comments I started listening to audio books about 2 yrs ago. I wasn't sure that I would like it. Now I have discovered it is very hard for me to actually read a book now. I love audio books

message 361: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (libisann) | 8 comments Audiobooks are the best! I listen in the car. Sometimes I have to hang out in parking lots to finish a good part :)

message 362: by Michael (new)

Michael Niccum Listening to books has taken the place of TV for me. I also put them on my MP3 player and take long walks.

message 363: by Georgie (new)

Georgie Chiu (iamgeorgie) Sometime I listen to Audiobooks on the go. And I love listening to them when I'm ready for bed!

message 364: by Crystal (new)

Crystal | 1 comments I listen to them while I am doing everything working, driving, chores (they go much faster) and while shopping.I love the fact that I can borrow them from my library now for free there are just so many out there. Current book is Killing dance by Laurell Hamilton.

message 365: by Amy (new)

Amy | 6 comments I usually listen to audiobooks while driving to/from work. It really makes the time stuck in traffic go by more quickly.

message 366: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Parise | 2 comments I only listen while driving to work, to the store, wherever. My car automatically connects with my phone when I get in so it starts right up. Any other time I have a hard time following the story especially when I am lying down!

message 367: by Elanna (new)

Elanna | 1 comments I listen to audiobooks while jogging and while walking. Another small bit of my life dedicated to books! :D

message 368: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 27 comments I listen when I am driving, when crocheting, walking, or eating lunch at work

message 369: by Sue (new)

Sue (siduri) I have a 40-60 minute drive each way to work, depending on traffic, so that's when I do the majority of my listening.

message 370: by Ed (new)

Ed | 47 comments Really am enjoying listening while walking! Have almost gone through storm front the first Harry Dresden book in one day of walking.

message 371: by Jim (new)

Jim Vuksic I actually only listen to an audio book while driving during a long road trip - planned or spontaneous. The time seems to pass faster; especially on long stretches of interstate highway. At all other times, I prefer to read traditional print books.

message 372: by Karen (last edited Oct 24, 2014 07:35PM) (new)

Karen (rhyta) | 166 comments I never thought I would end up loving audio books as much as I do, it seems so much easier to listen than actually sit down and read (I still do just not as much). It makes the chores go by faster and the multi-tasking aspect is great. It is so nice to listen and just lose yourself in the story.

message 373: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 243 comments Today I drove around, made lunch, did the dishes, and 2 loads of laundry while listening! :)

message 374: by Ed (new)

Ed | 47 comments I need to add listening while doing chores. As long as I can remember to grab the headphones.

message 375: by MsB (new)

MsB | 2 comments Ed wrote: "I need to add listening while doing chores. As long as I can remember to grab the headphones."

Ed I use a mini speaker to listen when I'm in the house alone.

message 376: by Mara (new)

Mara Pemberton (marapem) | 233 comments I play on the computer, do my bills on the computer, and I listen while I am walking and riding on the bus around town when I have errands to do.

message 377: by August (new)

August | 3 comments I drive to and from work when helps me focus on driving and not getting wigged out by Massachusetts drivers.

message 378: by Mirkat (new)

Mirkat | 54 comments Am I the only one who thinks this question is backwards? It's not so much what I do while listening to audiobooks as what activities I like to add an audiobook to.

message 379: by MsB (new)

MsB | 2 comments Mirkat wrote: "Am I the only one who thinks this question is backwards? It's not so much what I do while listening to audiobooks as what activities I like to add an audiobook to."

hahaha....you're over thinking it :). Listen on

message 380: by Jim (new)

Jim (jkmfilms) I normally just listen while driving.

But sometimes I'll grab the CD out of the car if I need to do some dishes...

message 381: by Maria (new)

Maria | 4 comments I listen while on the bus to and from work, or if i am to take it anywhere else. If home, I like to just relax while listening, lying down.

message 382: by Susan (new)

Susan (suze0501) | 37 comments Just about anything and everything - always go to sleep with an audiobook. My iPod's on the blink and I've just learned Apple have stopped producing the Classic. Devastated!

Robin P | 1730 comments Mirkat wrote: "Am I the only one who thinks this question is backwards? It's not so much what I do while listening to audiobooks as what activities I like to add an audiobook to."

I agree, the answer to what I do while listening is anything I possibly can!

You might be able to get a replacement rather than having to buy a brand new different model, you could check at an Apple store. I did not realize my older style nano had dropped under my car till I ran over it (!) but I was able to replace it for 60.00 instead of needing to buy a fancy new one with features I wouldn't use. Or you could try eBay. Before I went digital I kept buying Walkman cassette players there since Sony had stopped making them.

message 385: by Kenny (new)

Kenny Bellew (kennybellew) | 1 comments I listen to audiobooks in the shower (bluetooth speaker), while getting ready, while making lunch (I work from home), while driving and at the gym.

I can listen just about any time I'm not reading or talking.

message 386: by Jessica (new)

Jessica R. | 27 comments I am fortunate to have a job where I can listen to audiobooks most of the day (I do docketing and paralegal work for an IP law firm). A lot of my tasks are repetitive, which I don't mind since I love being able to "read" throughout the day. I have a one year old at home, so I don't get a lot of quiet time there :)

Fran Wilkins | 834 comments Lucy wrote: "I bet you'll like it if you listen and drive but will probably end up like me and want to drive longer for the good stories :)"

Yep. Driving in the slow lanes these days.

Audiobooks make my commute so much more relaxing and prevent me from getting impatient. Like Fran says, I'm firmly planted in the slow lane.

Tomorrow I need to drive about 4.5 hours away for work, and I return the next day. Between the drive and some hotel time I hope to finish the book I've started, Black House. Nothing like a creepy, well-told Stephen King book to pass the time!

message 389: by Jim (new)

Jim (jkmfilms) I love reading, and I find it hard to multi-task while listening to a book (unless it's something mindless like dishes or laundry), so I almost never listen to an audiobook while not driving. Plus there's the pain of finding a CD player to listen to it outside of the car, and finding your place again on the CD. It wasn't so bad when I was listening to Dracula on Whispersync, because I could stick my iphone in my pocket and do the dishes. But mostly, it's just in the car...

message 390: by Jim (new)

Jim (jkmfilms) I have missed exits and turns, too! But I also find I'm so concentrated on my driving that I have to rewind ever so often to catch what I've missed :)

message 391: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie | 563 comments I listen to audiobooks at work -- I'm stuck at a desk all day, so I figure I might as well find some good background noise!

message 392: by Sara (new)

Sara | 3 comments Work and drive are the two main things I do while listening to an audio book.

message 393: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Stewart (goodreadscomjenniferjstewart) When I listen to audiobooks, I do mindless housework or I log some exercise time. Both of which I'm sure I'd avoid without the audiobook treat! Also, whenever a long car trip is planned, I make sure I have several audiobooks to choose from; it makes the miles pass!

message 394: by Sara (new)

Sara | 83 comments Just like everybody else, I listen while driving to work, cooking, cleaning the house and doing laundry and folding them. However; I just started Knitting and I am listening and knitting at the same time. It's kind of nice since I feel more productive while knitting my big Afghan than playing games on the computer while listening to audio books.

message 395: by Martha (new)

Martha Colburn | 18 comments I eat dinner, do the dishes, brush my teeth, etc. I can't do anything on the computer while listening to audiobooks; my brain can't multitask as well as it did when I was younger.

message 396: by James (new)

James (jamesgg) | 12 comments 95% of the time, it's driving. The 405 Freeway has been ameliorated over the years by "Great Expectations," "Pepys' Diaries" and even by "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "Crime and Punishment."

However, David McCullough's "John Adams" was a fine companion for cleaning out the garage!

message 397: by Martha (new)

Martha Colburn | 18 comments Oh yes! I read/listened to John Adams, and it was great!

message 398: by James (new)

James (jamesgg) | 12 comments And he was always so energetic and productive, so it was good to listen to while cleaning. :)

message 399: by Martha (new)

Martha Colburn | 18 comments I kept swooning over his romance with his wife!

message 400: by James (new)

James (jamesgg) | 12 comments You might want to check out the DVD of "1776" :)
