Like others, I also do so while driving, doing laundry, getting ready to go out, etc.

Hi Robin, Fellow Upper Midwesterner here (MN). I hear you on hoping snow is done! Luckily, my husband is the primary shoveler at my house. :)

LOL! Where is the "like" button?

This made me laugh, I'm glad there are others out there who hate gardening but still do it. I love having fresh veggies and herbs but hate the work. Audiobooks do make it better, but usually my kids are out with me, so I try to pretend I enjoy the work.

I USED to try to wash dishes while listening or while doing some putzy work on the computer, but if you are in the kitchen, you are constantly interrupted and that just didn't work.

Oh, Bill, I do too! The other thing I do is drive 30 miles out of my way so that I can continue listening to my book without having to sit in the driveway with everyone looking out at me after I drive up.

The biggest problem I have now, is what to do with all of the puzzles I bought and put together.

You don't want to shellac them and hang them on your wall as pictures? Hehehehe!

Blue tooth headphones are the way to go, believe me!!!! I have a couple of differnt types that I change when they start to hurt the ears etc, or run out of battery etc
I'm addicted, time for an intervention!!!!!!

Driving, cleaning, cooking, more cleaning, breastfeeding (tmi? sorry), playing EASY sudoku, did I mention the cleaning?, painting my nails... mindless stuff. I listen while grocery shopping, which isn't too bad, because I usually know exactly what I want, but I pause a LOT at the store.
My FAVORITE thing lately is Dr. Mario 64. Oh yeah, baby. Gonna go do that right now.

A strong second for bluetooth headphones. It's so great not to get the cords caught on everything. Mine were only about $30 on Amazon, and they were worth every penny.

You sound like my kinda mom. I wish I would've listened to books when my kids were nursing rather than what I did, watch mindless reality tv.

But the absolute best and I repeat best time for me is when I am at the dentist office. I have recently had a root canal and there is a lot of drilling/follow up work. The actual root canal is not as bad as it used to be. But I find I prefer listening to audio books as opposed to music. I get so into the story, it actually lessens the drilling noise for me. It surprised me. I always heard music was good to listen to in the dentist chair, but I actually prefer audio books.

I commute while listening, used to be on the bus but my most recent job was only an hour's walk each way so perfect for audio books! I heard A Tale for the Time Being and Orlando. Next job is 10 weeks further afield though so probably back on the bus.

I'd never thought of listening at the dentist. I had loads of work done a year or so ago and got very nervous. It would have helped to distract my mind. I'll know for next time!

I listen while folding laundry, weeding the garden and doing dishes. I find the mundane chores move along more quickly when I am listening to a good book.

If I am about to sit on my comfy sofa or my bed, I automatically set the 8min timer and look to see where I am. So If I fall asleep, I know it was 8 mins that lapsed since I went to sleep :D

I have found myself more willing to do housework so that I can listen to a few more minutes of a book. I'm sure my wife doesn't have a problem with that.

I tried that and the dentist is the one place I can't listen to audiobooks. Pretty much everything everyone lists here works out great for me. I don't knit, but I do walk for exercise, drive, wash dishes, do laundry, play games, shop for groceries and household needs, do mindless odd jobs...all while listening. I even listen while I'm in the tub. Bath and book are a great combo. But for the dentist I stick to music. I can't concentrate on a narrative while some stranger is scraping and grinding my teeth. I tip my hat to you if you can.
