Star Gater (star-gater) I do jigsaw puzzles and enter Goodreads Giveaways. Sometimes I read along with the audiobook.

That's what I do, too. Walksing and driving are when I really enjoy them. But doing light housework or even soaking in a bath are other ways enjoy ebooks.

Ren (tinypanthertales) | 2 comments Mostly, I work! My job doesn't take my full attention and listening to an audiobook is a great semi-distraction to help my workday go a bit faster. =)

Robin P | 1730 comments Someone on GR, I think in another group, told me about an app called Happy Color which works on tablets and I guess phones, but it would be small. It's basically color by number and kind of mindless so I find it relaxing. It works well while listening.

Katharine | 10 comments I listen to audiobooks while I walk my dog, twice a day. Makes the walks more pleasant, since I can look forward to the next part of my story. Great way to get audiobooks "read".

Jeffrey Rasley | 8 comments Within the last few months I've undergone 2 surgeries. Audiobooks were a godsend during the rehab period, when even holding a book and turning pages was difficult.

Linda Schodowsky (seamowse) | 2 comments I usually listen to my audiobooks at night because I have tinnitus in my right ear, and it distract me from listening to all the hissing and buzzing. It's almost like my mom is seated on my bed and is telling me a story, lol. If I'm listening to it in the daytime, I'm doing it from my MacBook Pro and I work on online Jigsaw puzzles.

Jai (jaiready) | 1 comments I do pretty much everything except for write, talk and watch something engaging. I'll scroll social media, craft, sew, crochet, workout, shop, driving anywhere. I don't even know what music is current since I don't really play music in the car anymore.

message 761: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Sanchez | 2 comments I love to have a book playing in my car. I like to sit down and do a diamond painting while I listen, and it definitely makes cleaning the house more interesting...

message 762: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 1730 comments Sometimes jigsaw puzzles.

I agree about not listening to music in the car. I also don't listen to news like I used to because it is so depressing.

Same, on both accounts for me. I found myself being in a much better mood when I switched from the news to audio books consistently.

With my spouse in the car on long drives we now switch between music and audiobooks, but when it's me alone it's always audio books. (I've gotten him slowly into the audio books - yes!)

message 764: by Nart (new)

Nart Apps | 1 comments I am playing simple mindless games while I listen audio books. Such as Nodes (if you search on app store). Otherwise I quickly get distracted and start doomscrolling.

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) | 70 comments Cleaning the house or doing a crochet project are two things I do while listening to audiobooks. I also use audiobooks on drives that I do by myself.

Manon.ReadsForTheFunofit (manonlovestoread) | 1 comments Hi everyone,
I'm just new in this group and didn't see an: introduce yourself topic, so here I am!

I'm Manon, 40-ish with husband, 16 y/o son and a few fourlegged creatures to cuddle and stuff.

Of course I love books and I love reading.
But that (physical) reading part is becomming more challenging as of late. Thus I have started to read more and more via audiobooks.

And now to the subject of this thread:

I listen to an audiobook when:
- I walk the dog,
- I just sit and do crochet,
- In the car while driving,
- When using public transportation,
- When i do grocery shopping,
- When I do household chores/cleaning,
- And probably even more times.

I love audiobooks, they are definetly a great thing for me because the physical reading is such a challenge lately.

I do have to add that I can only start a new audiobook when I'm at home and just istting down for crochet. Because I forst need to get in to the audiobook before I can do anything else while listening.

Shar Walker (craig_owl) | 1 comments I listen mainly when I’m driving for more than about 15mins. Driving can be such ‘dead time’ for me so this is a perfect solution when I can’t actually read a book. I’ve also been known to tap into an audiobook if I wake up in the night and can’t get back to sleep. A 15 minute timer seems to do the trick 👍😁

Welcome, Manon ( a great French name!)
I thought we had an Introduce Yourself thread but I don't see it right now. Introducing yourself here is fine. I also listen almost any time, as well as reading print and ebooks. We have a number of members who find audiobooks better because of issues with eyesight, arthritis making it hard to hold books, and so on.

Marijke Carson Drive, do my Sunday afternoon meal prep for the week or clean the house...

Penelope | 71 comments Hi. I’ve been a reader forever but I’m fairly new to audiobooks - 3yrs or so. I decided they would be perfect during my “brainless” tasks like painting, gardening, long walks, house and yard chores. As others have said, if sleep is slow coming, I set a book on a timer and usually I’m out in 15mins. Rather than music, I now also listen to books commuting - I’ve enjoyed purchasing audios of my favorite books. They make easy listening commuting books. Like time with old friends. :)

Robert | 41 comments Hi, I'm Robert, new to the group, working a corporate job that requires occasional commuting into Toronto, Canada.

The easy answer for me would be "Working" or "Riding the Train into the City" but I think the more interesting ones are "Walking in the Woods" or "Driving Around Doing Errands" or even the elusive "Folding Laundry"- as you can see, I contain multitudes!

Happy to have found a space shared by fellow audiobook enthusiasts, I look forward to learning more and sharing in the days to come.

Cole W | 5 comments Hi everyone,

I’ve found audiobooks to be a great way to make the most of my time. I listen while driving, working, or doing anything that doesn’t need deep concentration (though yes, I do stay focused on the road).

I started listening to audiobooks in 2023 after realizing I kept playing the same music on repeat. I thought, why not use that time to expand my mind and learn something new? It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made, and I’ve discovered so many fascinating books along the way.

Looking forward to hearing about others’ favorite audiobook routines and recommendations.

PRIYA SHASHANK | 1 comments I am a compulsive multitasker. I knit, crochet, walk, cook and drive while listening to books. I joined Audible in 2012 and it completely changed my reading habits. I used to think kindle had revolutionised how we read books, but audiobooks have taken reading to another level altogether! I can read so much more because of audiobooks!

message 774: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Walsh | 1 comments I listen to an audiobook while Measuring machined parts against a print, yard or house work, watching my kids sports games, durring my commute. winding down at the end of the day.

100% this

message 776: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Lewis | 1 comments Hi, I’m Jenn and new to the group. I rejected audio books for so long because it felt like cheating, but as my kids got older and we moved to a place where I now have long daily drives just to get to a Trader Joe’s or a movie theater, I have fallen in love with Audible and Libby. I am constantly listening to a book while cooking, knitting, cleaning, and of course driving.

Michelle Rosener-Myers (michellerosenermyers) | 1 comments I craft while listening to audio books. I also listen on longer rides in the car.
