mrbooks | 1469 comments I loved the book, but after season 1 in the TV series I had to leave it went way of the mark for me.

I watched season one and a bit of season 2 then gave it up. It got so bad. I think an actual series was a bad idea. It would have been better as a mini-series. There was a definite end and a series takes that away.

Currently reading The Tribe by Bari Wood , while also working my way through Wizard and Glass (The Dark Tower, #4) by Stephen King (it's dragging a bit with the long flashback).

Hi, Erin, I just picked up a copy of The Templar Legacy (Cotton Malone, #1) by Steve Berry , based on a recommendation. Did you read that one- it's the first in the series, yes?

Hi Jesse. No, I haven't read The Templar Legacy. The Alexandria Link is the first I have read in the Cotton Malone series.

Water for Elephants by Sara Green. It is excellent!

Floating Dragon I read that years and years ago it wasn't to bad as I remember rightly, I think here is another book to put on my ever growing to re-read list.

message 4815: by Clifton (new)

Clifton | 40 comments Yep. I read "Ghost Story" by Straub and loved it, so currently its "Floating Dragon" and then "Shadowland."

Damned auto-correct. Sara Gruen.

Kandice | 4387 comments I splurged on the "Joe Hill Shelf" at my favorite local books store last night and am going to get through The Cape, The Cape: 1969, Thumbprint, Kodiak and Wraith if I have to stay up all night to do it!

message 4818: by Luke (new)

Luke Emery | 17 comments The Cape and Wraith are the two highlights there. Great comics.

Luke Emery | 17 comments I'm making my way through A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Three novellas set 100 years before the game of thrones series. Nice to be back in Westeros for while, while still waiting for Winds of Winter!

I had a copy of Ghost Story for the longest time, and somehow I lost it before I got a chance to read it. I have to rectify that, it seems!

message 4823: by Clifton (new)

Clifton | 40 comments Re "Ghost Story," I really dug it. Definitely a "Salem's Lot" vibe (which Straub readily admits). King himself touted the novel in "Danse Macabre" and of course the two ended up collaborating on "The Talisman" and "Black House."

Here is the question for you Clifton, Can you identify which author wrote what in each of the books you mentioned ?

I have tried and can't seem to work out who wrote what.

message 4826: by Clifton (new)

Clifton | 40 comments TBH, I have yet to read either of the King/Straub collaborations! I have a feeling I may just dive into "The Talisman" once I get done with "Floating Dragon" and "Shadowland." I did read an interview with Straub where he said that he's only met one person in his life who had it figured out for the most part.

If you like Pet Sematary, and want some more "bleak" King, check out Revival. Very much in a similar vein.

It's funny you should say that Luke I have met a lot of people who have said the same thing. The Lord of the Rings is an epic adventure and because of it's size it takes a little time to get started. I was hooked by the middle of the birthday party. Here is an old mans recommendation, stick with it for it is worth the effort you put into it.

I first read it as an adult and had trouble with it, too. But I heard that parents often read this to their children, so I tried to imagine how excited children would be about the birthday party and the adventures of the hobbits and all the details, so I was able to enjoy it a little. That got me through the beginning parts of the story.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Just finished THE SPARROW, not a new novel but certainly a sci-fi classic especially for those who like a little spirituality mixed in with their extraterrestrial exploration (a-la C. S. Lewis). Here's a link to my review.

Now I can concentrate on THE STAND before I have to take on some volunteer work as a judge and script reader for the CINEQUEST Film Festival.
