I loved the book, but after season 1 in the TV series I had to leave it went way of the mark for me.

I think an actual series was a bad idea. It would have been better as a mini-series. There was a definite end and a series takes that away.
Currently reading
, while also working my way through
(it's dragging a bit with the long flashback).

Hi, Erin, I just picked up a copy of
, based on a recommendation. Did you read that one- it's the first in the series, yes?

I'm finally reading Pet Sematary. I saw the movie years ago but just now got a copy of the book a few weeks ago.
Water for Elephants by Sara Green. It is excellent!
Clifton wrote: "Floating Dragon by Peter Straub"Floating Dragon I read that years and years ago it wasn't to bad as I remember rightly, I think here is another book to put on my ever growing to re-read list.
Yep. I read "Ghost Story" by Straub and loved it, so currently its "Floating Dragon" and then "Shadowland."
Damned auto-correct. Sara Gruen.
I splurged on the "Joe Hill Shelf" at my favorite local books store last night and am going to get through The Cape, The Cape: 1969, Thumbprint, Kodiak and Wraith if I have to stay up all night to do it!
I'm making my way through A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Three novellas set 100 years before the game of thrones series. Nice to be back in Westeros for while, while still waiting for Winds of Winter!

Clifton wrote: "Yep. I read "Ghost Story" by Straub and loved it, so currently its "Floating Dragon" and then "Shadowland.""I had a copy of Ghost Story for the longest time, and somehow I lost it before I got a chance to read it. I have to rectify that, it seems!
Re "Ghost Story," I really dug it. Definitely a "Salem's Lot" vibe (which Straub readily admits). King himself touted the novel in "Danse Macabre" and of course the two ended up collaborating on "The Talisman" and "Black House."

Oh yes you need to read Ghost Story a well written book I quite enjoyed it.

I have tried and can't seem to work out who wrote what.
TBH, I have yet to read either of the King/Straub collaborations! I have a feeling I may just dive into "The Talisman" once I get done with "Floating Dragon" and "Shadowland." I did read an interview with Straub where he said that he's only met one person in his life who had it figured out for the most part.

I've started The Fellowship of the Ring after recently finishing and loving The Hobbit. But boy this is a struggle 100 pages in and it feels like it's not really started. Anyone else found this classic a slog?
Luke wrote: "I've started The Fellowship of the Ring after recently finishing and loving The Hobbit. But boy this is a struggle 100 pages in and it feels like it's not really started. Anyone else found this cla..."Stick with it, Luke, it's great. Wish I could read it again for the first time.

The Lord of the Rings is an epic adventure and because of it's size it takes a little time to get started. I was hooked by the middle of the birthday party. Here is an old mans recommendation, stick with it for it is worth the effort you put into it.
Luke wrote: "I've started The Fellowship of the Ring after recently finishing and loving The Hobbit. But boy this is a struggle 100 pages in and it feels like it's not really started. Anyone else found this classic a slog?"I first read it as an adult and had trouble with it, too. But I heard that parents often read this to their children, so I tried to imagine how excited children would be about the birthday party and the adventures of the hobbits and all the details, so I was able to enjoy it a little. That got me through the beginning parts of the story.
Oh Terri, please, please keep us updated your reading it and commenting is the closest we will ever come to reading for the first time again.
Just finished THE SPARROW, not a new novel but certainly a sci-fi classic especially for those who like a little spirituality mixed in with their extraterrestrial exploration (a-la C. S. Lewis). Here's a link to my review. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Now I can concentrate on THE STAND before I have to take on some volunteer work as a judge and script reader for the CINEQUEST Film Festival.
Thanks for the advice all. I'm now around 300 pages in. Book 2 has really improved things. Was a hard start, but really into it now.
Terri wrote: "About to start "The Gunslinger" been wanting to read this series, The Dark Tower" for a while now."Absolutely! It is a marvelous series!
I just started reading "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terri Pratchett. Guess I'll see how it pans out!
Kathryn wrote: "Currently reading The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by SK."I didn't think I would like this book but have to admit it hooked me.
I'm reading Insurgent by Veronica Roth when I started I could barely remember anything from the first book even though I only read it at the start of the year
