I just got a copy in the mail today. I think I want to get through The Dead Zone, which is turning out to be far better than I remember it. Maybe in about a week.

Luke Emery | 17 comments Hi!
I'm new to the app and new to this chat room. Huge King fan, read a good chunk of his writing. But currently reading The Hobbit for the first time. Really enjoying it so far. Considering it was written in the 30s I'm surprised it reads so modern.

message 4762: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Hi Luke and welcome. The Hobbit is an excellent book like Stephen King I re-read Tolkien every few years. Are you going to follow through and read the Lord of the rings Trilogy?

Haven't bought it yet. If you have read it, how is it?

message 4764: by Andy (new)

Andy Davidson (theandydavidson) Just purchased yesterday, read 3 chapters. It's a good read -- moves quickly, has a compelling heroine. Definitely worth a read.

I ended up really like it with the exception of the ending, which isn't all that surprising. Like Andy said, it pulls you in quickly with the appearance of the man in black.

Erin (ems84) | 2661 comments Sounds good, I'll get it at some point.

The first book in the series is one of my favorites. The whole series is great, though. I hope the next book comes out soon.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Just started THE SPARROW by Mary Dorria Russell... about the Jesuits sending a mission to the first planet with intelligent life to be identified by our astronomers. Takes place in the late 21st century, and we know from the get go that the mission was a disaster. Excellent read.

Is there any word about when the next in the series will be released? That ending scene...I can't wait!

If you aren't on the app, you do this (but without any extra spaces) < spoiler> jklklassjfnsdlknkl < /spoiler>

Or look above the comment box you're typing in where it says (some html is ok). Click on that. The second last item on the list says • spoiler: < spoiler>...< /spoiler>, and gives the code that Kandice just posted. Cut and paste the code after the colon and type your spoiler where the three dots are. Don't copy and paste this because we have to add extra spaces in the string (eg: < spoiler) to write about it otherwise it turns our example into a spoiler.

This is one of King's book, along with IT, I would like to read in this year.
The great number of pages make me think that I need to be in the right mood to read it. It catch you from the first pages? Or at the beginning, the pace is a little slow?

message 4796: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I think Under the Dome opens with a bang and just ramps up from there. In the very first couple of pages the dome descends and then we really meet everyone.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Kandice wrote: "I think Under the Dome opens with a bang and just ramps up from there. In the very first couple of pages the dome descends and then we really meet everyone."

UNDER THE DOME: It's as powerful an opening as Mr. Mercedes and almost as strong as the opening of THE STAND. Not quite as heart-stoppingly terrifying as the opening of Cujo, but maybe that only terrifies people who, as kids, had a big scary closet in their bedroom.

message 4800: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) | 64 comments It definitely caught me right away--from the scene with the airplane & the woodchuck! And it's very easy to pick up & read for a hundred pages or so at a time. It's been taking me a while to read (I'm about 300 pages in now), but really, that's more because work/life has kept me busier than I would like. It's very addictive--every time you think it's slowing down, something else happens. I'm really loving it!
