What Are You Reading Now? Pt 2.
Finished Norse Mythology and should have a review up shortly. Currently re-reading Blaze and listening to The Handmaid's Tale.

The Last Mile by David Baldacci. It's the first thing I've read by him. It's pretty good, too.

Vicki, he recently had a book singing for End of Watch in Bradenton, two hours from me, and I missed it :(. I was at work and found out it was happening right then.If I never get another chance I'll never forgive myself for not paying more attention.

I would love to re-read the Handmaid's Tale. I'm going to try this year. It was required reading in high school, but I find that I appreciate books now more for their structure of words than I used to, instead of just the story. I want to re-read everything I read back then in case I didn't appreciate it as much as I might now.
If you're interested, apparently the Handmaid's Tale has recently been made as a tv show. I don't know how many episodes have been released or the network, but someone mentioned watching it last week and it seemed like it had just started.

The Handmaid's Tale is on Hulu and currently has four released episodes. New Episodes come out on Wednesday, and it's amazing so far!
Kandice wrote: "The Handmaid's Tale is on Hulu and currently has four released episodes. New Episodes come out on Wednesday, and it's amazing so far!"I read it's already been renewed for a second season.

I know how you feel- I'm in Tampa and would give anything to go to a signing.....and if he was in Bradenton - he was definitely close to home!

I want to make it through the reading (listening that is read by Claire Danes) before I start watching. I knew absolutely nothing about his book when I started it. Just saw that it was the # 1 paperback fiction best-seller in S.F.

I've been thinking of reading the book too before watching season one. I'd get it from my local library or anyone who has a copy in the library's network. Now that the series is out everyone wants to read the book or so it seems as the book seems to be checked out everywhere I look.

It's also an excellent audio book. It doesn't have a ton of dialogue which makes the best audiobooks for me. There are articles and histories as well which make for great listening as opposed ot just a story.

I just finished The Princess Bride for the first time and it was brilliant! As someone who knows every single word of the movie, it was delightful to read the story and see just how much movie dialogue is direct quotes. I loved getting the extra background and origin stories of all the characters. It was the 30yr anniversary edition, so it had a new forward and the 25yr forward also. It was an interesting way of making the book. I thought it was funny that he made his fictional self rather unlikable.
He gets extra points for the fictional Stephen King cameo!

I'll have to look into both, thanks.

Claire Danes reads The Handmaid's Tale and she does a fantastic job... (I'm half way through). There's a pretty strong dramatic performance called for, and she is totally up to the task.
Well I'll definitely recommend Ragdoll by Daniel Cole I really enjoyed that one, next up is a debut I won called The Binding song by Elodie Harper

I'm currently reading Misery for the first time. Very enjoyable so far!(But then, everything Stephen King writes is enjoyable. Even when something painful/awful happens, he can still make it enjoyable because it's better written than something happy anyone else could have written.)
Good luck with Misery it is a good book but not to everyone's taste. My wife read it a didn't like it, but then again she isn't the die hard Stephen King fan that I am.
I just finished The Handmaid's Tale last night. I bought the kindle edition when it was on sale last year. Nothing like a TV show to light a fire under you, LOL. I just checked and it is not lendable. I do see $0.00 Prime and the words "included with prime membership." Has anyone with a kindle and a Prime membership checked if they can borrow it through the kindle owner's lending library?
Erin, if you prefer paper books and not ebooks, do you have a used bookstore you can check? I buy a lot of used books at Half Priced Books and Goodwill and through Amazon.

I really liked Misery. One of my favorites.
Misery is one of my favorites. When I read it, I was still fancying myself as an aspiring author (LOL) and found the writing process described in the novel really fascinating.
I'm switching back and forth, at the moment, between Peter Straub's Ghost Story and a collection of short stories by "weird-fiction" author Charles Beaumont.
Nicole wrote: "I'm very much looking forward to re-reading it soon!"It's been about 5 years since I read it and I didn't realize how much I forgot.
Me and my son are also watching the series as we read it. It is pretty good so far.
Lisa wrote: "I'm currently reading "It" for the first time."I am so envious. That is my favorite book. I have read it three times.
I finished Misery (you were all correct, it was excellent. I love how he can introduce a situation and then just drastically raise the level of terror. It was bad enough for him before the memory photo album was seen and he realized exactly what he was dealing with. I gave it 4/5, not because it wasn't written amazingly, but just because it didn't draw me in as much as some of his other books and characters. And Femmy, I do agree, I really liked how the writing process was described, it was one of my favorite things about it!)Now I'm reading Life of Pi. I never saw the movie (I'll wait forever to see a movie if I think it looks interesting but know there's a book I could read first!)
I'm only somewhere like 50-60 pages in and I love it. Everything is described so vibrantly and the choice to write in a candid first person is really enjoyable, especially with the Indian culture that seeps through! I'm really looking forward to continuing.
In these days, I'm reading Exorcist Falls, a good horror book. I've finished the first part, inspired by The Exorcist and now I'm reading the second. Today, I even read Batman/Aliens, an interesting, but strange story, about Batman vs Alien, an odd pair. It's a curious and unmissable book!

Now I'm reading The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon and I am glad to be back with the King! No one writes like him.
