I'm doing the audio book of Dance Macabre and, based on King's comments in that book, reading Frankenstein for the first time.

About to start The Howling; which I am so excited about. Nothing like werewolves on a dreary, cold and wintry weekend. I also will be starting Daughter of Smoke & Bone and Possess, which has been on my TBR the longest; and last but certainly not least; Savage Season.
Yes, I will be reading all 4..... One for work, one for before bed, one for quick weekend reading (Howling) and one for fill-in. LOL
Just finished Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt. Fantastic. Loved it. Great character development and unique plot. All King fans should try it. I just wish there was more by Heuvelt.
Missing Presumed by Susie Steiner was pretty rubbish and I will not read another book about a missing girl this year! Now reading Divergent by Veronica Roth I really needed something different
Rhian, if you haven't read divergent before I am so glad that you are reading it now! The novel is so great and hope you feel as passionate about Veronica's writing as much as I do. I believe it's one of the most captivating pieces of fictional fantasy on this world. I hope you enjoy the read and would love to discuss this novel with you!
I was going to pick this book up tonight as an alternative to my current reads and shift of mood. Happy to hear you're enjoying it so much, Rhian, and that it sounds like a fave for you, Massimo.
I loved The Revenant, too. So much that I continued researching it for a couple of weeks after finishing it.
Very tempted by the group read of Danse Macabre as I started it when I was a teenager but didn't see it out. However: State of Flux by Rachael Stephen.

I hope you like Daughter of Smoke & Bone, it's one of my favorites! I love the way she writes :)
Finished Red Harvest
by Dashiell Hammett. A brilliant hard boiled classic. Seldom are books so entertaining to read, highest recommendation, rating 5/5.My thoughts on the book https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Gave it four stars, certainly better than most of the movies of the same name... but not all of them. My review is athttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Reading
City of Mirrors; third installment from The Passage Trilogy. I hope there are others out there reading this novel because I need to discuss it soon. Amazing story
I finished off State of Flux. I read it in a week, so it wasn't bad. There's a good story in it but it really could have done with a second draft.I've moved onto the The Further Adventures of Ebenezer Scrooge and so far so good.
(I'm taking the long way round to getting back to Homage to Catalonia.)

Thought I'd just jump in here and add my two cents. I loved this book... apparently more than a lot of people. Here's my review though I think it has more than a few spoilers... but not right away.

I wrote a detailed review of Pretty Girls... maybe too detailed. I gave the book five stars but added that it's the most disturbing book I've ever read.

I'd say so... if you enjoy being disturbed :-) Read the first paragraph or two of my review to get a sense of what's going on.
Finished The Further Adventures of Ebenezer Scrooge I thought it was a good little read and worth a look at any time of the year.
Finished A Firing Offense
by George Pelecanos. The detail-laden writing style was not my cup of tea but that did not stop me from appreciating that Pelecanos is a good writer. Unfortunately the story was boring and generic, hopefully his later books will be better. Rating - 2/5.Compressed thoughts https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I've heard a few people say that when they describe the book after reading it.

I like to read authors who push at the limits so to speak and make it believable.
I have a stack of books I got in the January sales because this year I thought I'd get back to physical books a bit. They aren't piled up in a specific 'to read' order or anything, just random/ vague size order. So far though I've just plucked the book off the top, going State of Flux, Further Adventures of Mr Scrooge and now I'm onto The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly, a book I put on my TBR list a long time ago after seeing it recommended somewhere like the Guardian. I've read nearly half of it in no time. It's really touching.
I am trying to read
but I'm having a tough time getting into it. I've read maybe 20 pages so far and am not in any hurry to pick it back up. Does it get any better?
I haven't read it myself yet but own a hardcover copy. Everyone in my fave group said to keep going with it. It's hard to get into but well worth it once it gets going. They said please hang on. Lol

I loved it, personally. All the details really interest me; but that is not for everybody.
I would try to dedicate a full hour to read and see if it works. If not; put it aside and read something else.
Do not waste your time on a book that isn't working for you. Good luck
I just read part of Nicks review of Horns by Joe Hill so now it is bumped to the front of my line of books to read.

While I'm enjoying his telling of the back story I can't keep from visualizing Lish sitting at the table in the station and listening to him, something she would not do. For one, to hear about life before would be too difficult, not emotionally but technically. She's never experienced life that way so she has nothing for comparison; she's not conceptualizing any of it. For another, can you actually see her sitting calmly and listening to Zero? NO
So unless I've misread somewhere and it's not Lish he is talking to then this is an issue for me and her character.
Any thoughts?

Yesterday I finished The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly and fully recommend it to everyone. It was very touching.
I started Illuminae because after hearing about it last year the style intrigued me. Immediately upon starting it I see it's about a boy and a girl who have recently broke up and I'm worried it might not be for me. Let's hope it isn't too much of a childish love story. (I also bought Gemina, the sequel, so fingers crossed...!)
