Dylan | 28 comments I'm currently reading The Dead Zone. I don't know why, but I was somewhat skeptical about this book so I put it off for a while. I don't know why I doubted the man. This book is great!

I think the Dead Zone is King's most underrated book. For some reason, it doesn't get the love that many of his other tales do and it's really too bad. It's a great story that I've re-read a couple of times and recommend it often.

It is a very, very good book and even though it takes place decades ago, it's weirdly topical right now.

There is a series on Amazon based on this book. It's one of the few times that I like the adaptation better. Dick lends himself so well to visual adaptations.

One of my favorites! Kandice is right about the adaptation on Amazon. That is a must see. I can't wait for season two.

message 4274: by Aditya (new)

Aditya Finished The Long Goodbye The Long Goodbye (Philip Marlowe, #6) by Raymond Chandler by Raymond Chandler. A brilliant book, it's easily the best written book in a series of exceptionally written books. Chandler had written better mysteries in The Big Sleep, The Little Sister but this is so much more than that. Recommended to everyone with good taste in books. Rating - 5/5.

message 4276: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments I'm half way through my first re-read of THE SHINING. I'm feeling more and more that this is King's masterpiece, and it's really two books: 1) the action thriller that Kubrick translated to the screen without losing any of its sheer horror, and 2) the internal monologues, thoughts, and remembrances that show that King made good on his promise to draw Jack Torrance as a guy we can cheer and hope for even as he's going mad. The writing is off the charts brilliant.

I'm thinking that I'd like to see the movie of secret window. Not sure how it was reviewed but it seems like it should be well done.

I didn't know it was part of a series but as I was reading it I thought it seemed like it could be a set up for a series like the Odd Thomas books.

Ugh, I enjoyed the book (more so near the end) but not enough to read more books.

Is it the one with Johnny Depp, in that case it was dull and bland IMO. There are many better psychological thrillers around.

Rhian (rhianlovesbooksx1f4d6) | 508 comments Yes I was thinking of the Johnny Depp film I don't think I've ever watched it all if I have I can't remember it

Aditya Finished The Assistant Murderer by Dashiell Hammett. A nice little novella that should please genre fans, a good introduction for me to a master of the genre Hammett but I hope the full length novels pack a bigger punch. Rating 4/5.

And my full review for The Long Goodbye - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
As usual only write full reviews for books about which I truly have something to say.

I like Preacher, I am more or less halfway. I didn't see the series, but I hope to do soon. Career of Evil is a nice book, an evolution of the previous, also for the structure of the book.

I was reading 11/22/63 but my digital library ran out so I have to wait for it to get renewed. I believe I was on page 263 when I stopped. So far, it's really good. I want to see the Hulu series but my app isn't working on my PS4, so I'll probably just buy it.

Hi Rhian! I can see how you could read this in a day. It is addicting, and so far, I'm really enjoying it. I can tell this is going to be a bleak novel. Thank you! :)

One of these days I will get to Crichton. You seem to be going through time at a good pace with other books inbetween.

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments I finished Doctor Sleep and it was excellent. I would definitely be very interested in a Shining #3.

Now I'm getting back to reading Unwind by Neal Shusterman. Its book 1/4 of the Unwind Dystology that my friend recommended me. Its a YA dystopia, and though it is definitely YA, the character development is amazing so far and the characters are very interesting. It's hard to put down.
