What Are You Reading Now? Pt 2.
Yesterday, I've finished The Scar, an incredible book! Definitely China Mieville is an author I want to read again!Today I started a collection of stories by H. G. Wells, the first is "The Invisible Man".
Rhian wrote: "So glad you enjoyed it Nick"I did; it was amazing. But there were some very dark moments. I'll have to read some of her other work. Karen Slaughter's ability to look into the souls of her characters and build tension is incredible.
Finished The Little Sister
by Raymond Chandler. Rating - 5/5Another great addition to the series, can't say this enough times if you like crime fiction you should read Raymond Chandler. And if you don't like crime fiction you should still read Chandler.
My brief review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Nick you should try blindsighted by Slaughter, its the first of the first series and from what I remember a really good one, I only have 1 book left from her second series and 1 stand alone of hers left to read I think although pretty sure she has another book out soon
Rhian wrote: "Nick you should try blindsighted by Slaughter, its the first of the first series and from what I remember a really good one, I only have 1 book left from her second series and 1 stand alone of hers..."Sounds good, I'll do it, thanks. though first I have to get through End of Watch, and a great book of short stories I'm into. More about that soon.
Oh dear I've been totally caught up in the football and neglected my reading, I'm off to bed to make a big effort to finish The Martian, I have Silent Scream by Angela Marsons to read next I received a signed copy from her today, so lovely of her
Finished the excellent Gods & Monsters: Short Fiction Collection Vol. 1
by Gord Rollo.Http://kenmckinley.wordpress.com
Kandice wrote: "Just started Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow and Swan Song by Robert McCammon."One of my favorite reads of all-time (Swan Song)! I hope you love it as much as I have.
Kandice wrote: "Just started Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow and Swan Song by Robert McCammon."Have you read swan song before?
Just finished Minor Discord, a collection of exceptional very short stories by Helen Laycock. Here's my review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished Mr. Mercedes
by Stephen King. A bit cliched in in parts but still much better than what a lot of genre writers would manage, King's latest foray outside the supernatural impressed me enough to seek out the remaining two books in the trilogy. Rating - 4/5.
My brief review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Kandice wrote: "No, Nick, I haven't. It's very good and grabs you from the get-go."It's a lot of people's favorite, especially among Post-apocalyptic fiction.
I haven't posted in awhile. I have recently read The Last Whisper in the Dark, Deal: My Three Decades of Drumming, Dreams, and Drugs with the Grateful Dead, Big Fish, The Golem and the Jinni, and The Sirens of Titan. Now I'm reading End of Watch.
Finished Finders Keepers
by Stephen King.A simple thriller that's more than the sum of its parts and another good reason to suggest to no other prolific author comes close to being as eclectic as King.

Finished Mayan Blue
. Interesting premise, but in the end not enough done with it.Review at:

Gavin wrote: "I'm currently reading Oliver Twist"Yeah, a good shot of Charles Dickens is a pretty good way to know just how great writing can be. Dickens, I think, too was dismissed by critics for writing too much for the popular taste.
Just finished End of Watch. I'm sure I'm one of the few readers who had a problem with Brady... but that was in book 1 - Mr. Mercedes. Still, the feeling carried over to End of Watch, even though he was a far better character in this book, and his evil plans were as black as they could ever be. I think I'd better go back and re-read Mr. M, to try and figure out why I didn't think he was believable. I may wait till I get through book 1 again before writing a review of end of watch. But one thing that might be worth noting for folks who haven't read it yet... there's plenty of supernatural, or at least "beyond human" stuff going on here.
Euro 2016 is seriously having an effect on my reading but I did finish Silent Scream by Angela Marsons today I really enjoyed it so refreshing to find a detective I actually like
To me, Bird Box was cool for what it left to your imagination. Angela Marsons' DI Kim Stone is definitely a winner!
I read birdbox in one day it was pretty grim I felt really down afterwards, I shouldn't have read it all in one go, I still thought it was good though
Finished Trouble is My Business
by Raymond Chandler and Mulholland Dive
by Michael Connelly. Two short story collections, the first one quite good with one of the best introductions I have ever read while the second one is glorified promotional material that tries to pass itself off as a bunch of short stories. If you are a fan of either author check out these collections otherwise stick to their novels which are much better.
The Farm (Tom Rob Smith), starting it for the 2nd time. I have to make it through this time!
Any thoughts?
An almost done with a re-read of Mr. Mercedes. Also into
... required reading for my upcoming novel which is magical realism as is Bones of the Moon. So far it's great.
Don wrote: "Heart shaped box - Joe Hill and loving it!"I really liked this book too, but I couldn't get into any of his follow-on stuff. He's a first-rate writer, though. Not just hanging on to daddy's coattails.
Finished End of Watch
by Stephen King. The weakest book in the Bill Hodges trilogy but still worth a read for the genre faithful. It's good to see the series being wrapped up just as it had started hinting it might overstay its welcome. Rating - 3/5My thoughts on the book https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
