Rhian (rhianlovesbooksx1f4d6) | 508 comments Nick I should have said don't go for the audio version as there are pictures, emails and news articles included in the book and after I finished I found out there's an app to go with the book I haven't downloaded that yet but I wish I knew at the start not the end of the book although maybe they tell you at the end because of spoilers

If you haven't read this yet, you're in for a treat. I'm with Nick on this one. I think The Long Walk is an under-the-radar gem by King.

ABSOLUTELY. You might also read Misery which is a horrific story but has a great set of writing lessons in it... including the saving power of writing.

I hope not. Who knows though? I thought the Gunslinger was fantastic when some recommend skipping it and I enjoyed Drawing of the Three but probably least of the first 3 books and it seems a favorite of many. So maybe I've just got weird taste? lol

I attended a panel that he participated in at ComicCon and then spoke to him afterwards. He was a really likable guy, but I haven't gotten around to reading anything of his yet. Do you think this is a good place to start?

These have been the first books I have read by him, so I can't say it is the best place to start for Sanderson but I can say that the two books in this series so far are very good. Mistborn is another series by him that has received very good reviews. I bought The Way of Kings because it has a very high rating on Goodreads (4.62 with over 100,000 ratings) and was coming up in my recommendations. If you like fantasy then I really think you should give him a try. Amazing world building, characters, and story telling.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'm always keen for some epic fantasy and this sounds good judging by the ratings.

Even going into it with high expectations because of the ratings it received I was not disappointed. The books are long but I've been going through them at a pretty quick pace (for me) because they're so engrossing.

Yeah, I was a bit daunted by the page count, but when a book is good, it is hard not to fly through.

I got to a little over 100 pages in The Name of the Wind but stopped because I just couldn't get into it for some reason. I am going to have to try again soon.
